Holiday Villas in Chianti, Tuscany

Submitted by aperion

When people hear the word Chianti, they often think of the distinctive wine that comes in a tear-drop shaped bottle. The delightful beverage takes its name from an area of Tuscany that offers visitors a very special vacation experience. With great food, wine, and gorgeous natural scenery, a trip to Chianti can make for a spectacular getaway for either a family or a romantic couple.

After figuring out transportation, the next step in planning your vacation is deciding on accommodation. There are many different options available, from a holiday villa in Chianti to a vacation villa with a pool in Chianti. You could also choose to stay in a small bed and breakfast in hotel, but for larger groups or those looking for a more authentic Italian experience, a villa can be much more intimate. These places often come with the opportunity to rent a car from the villa owner, which is the perfect way to explore the Tuscany countryside.

Once you've settled into your new home, it's time to explore. Five main towns make up the region of Chianti, and stretch between the larger cities of Florence and Siena: Panzano, Castellina, Radda, and Gaiole. While the two cities mentioned have a great selection of world-class museums and churches that are sure to astound, it's wise to set forth into the countryside to enjoy everything that Chianti, Tuscany has to offer.

Much of the tourism in the region revolves around grapes and wine, and for good reason; Chianti is one of the foremost grape-growing regions in the world. One could spend a lifetime wandering from winery to winery, but if you have limited time, your best bet is visiting on the last Sunday of May, during the festival of Cantine Aperte. This special day witnesses many of the country's wineries throwing open their doors for free tastings.

Of course, Cantine Aperte doesn't fit neatly into everyone's schedule, which isn't a problem; most wineries are open to visitors throughout the year anyway. You can choose between going with a private tour operator, or exploring the countryside yourself in your own vehicle. If you choose the latter, be sure to purchase a good guidebook prior to leaving, complete with phrasebook; many of the people in countryside will speak only Italian.

Winery owners usually speak at least a couple of languages, and are generally very friendly and welcoming; after all, who could be happier than someone who crafts wonderful wine as a profession? These folks often offer accommodation in addition to tours and tastings, so consult your guidebook, the Internet, or give a call while planning your trip. If you're lucky, you might even end up in a unique Chianti farmhouse with a pool to enjoy away the lazy, sunny afternoons!

Chianti, Tuscany is a fabulous vacation destination that will let you get away from it all. With superb wines, wonderful food, and gorgeous, hilly countryside, there will be no end to the chances to enjoy everything the region has to offer.
