Fascinating, hypnotising and indeed, glistening with brightness, the cocktail of Kovalam is a blend of sun-kissed sand, healing warmth and vastness of serene blue beaches.

Initially a small fishing village, Kovalam has emerged to be one of the biggest tourist attractions in Kerala. Carved out by the majestic Arabian sea, beaches of Kovalam in Kerala are beautifully hemmed by green frills of palm groves. Its sparkling white sands are ideal for a leisure walk in the evening. In fact, the clear blue water allures you to jump in and enjoy a memorable rendezvous with water.

Following are the main tourist attractions of this quaint little destination:

Light House Beach: Kovalam is famous for its three beautiful beaches. The Lighthouse beach is one of them. It is a must-see hotspot when you visit Kovalam. It is popular amongst the tourists for its pristine sandy beach. One can feel the majestic presence of the Vizhinjam Lighthouse, dominating the landscape. The view from top of the light house is breath-taking and leaves an indelible memory to behold.

Hawa Beach: The indigenous natives will surely suggest you to visit the Hawa Beach. Many tourists claim it to be the most beautiful beach in Kerala. The beach has an interesting story behind its name. Sometime back, this beach was the only place in India where the topless sunbathing of European women was tolerated. However, topless bathing is banned today in India.

Ashok Beach: This is the third most beautiful beach in Kovalam. The beach draws its name from Hotel Ashok. Kovala Jama Masjid and Ganpathi temple are the two holy sites located on the beach. They reflect the rich and harmonious culture of Kovalam.

Vizhinjam Rock-Cut Cave: The place holds both religious and historical significance. It is famous for its exquisitely carved sculptures and a beautiful granite temple inside the cave. The mythological stories based on Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati are carved on the walls.

Kaudiar Palace: Admired for its architectural splendour, this grand palace was once a home of the Late Maharaja Sree Chitra Thirunal Bala Rama Verma. Built in 1915, it is the finest example of Keralite architecture, bearing more than 150 rooms.

Anchuthengu Fort: Established in 17th century, this fort is a brilliant symbolisation of the architectural elegance of the Britishers in India. Kovalam travel is incomplete without a visit to this fort. Exhibiting the royal taste and style of the Britishers, the fort also has a cemetery nearby.
