Fat Cat Bankers? A Classic Piece of Misdirection.

If there’s one thing the press never does is convey understanding. Lots of bad news, yes. Confusion, yes. Bah blah and yakety yak that never quite seems to make sense, of course.

But understanding? No chance. Helping the riffraff actually understand what its government and the hidden committees who hand government its orders are doing is definitely NOT part of the role of the modern press.

People must be PREVENTED from getting a clear look at our current monetary crisis lest, God forbid, they penetrate the whopping great hoax the banking sector and their tame government have cooked up between them. The people, let’s face it, would be more than a little miffed. Things could get ugly.

It would not do to have the hoi polloi wise and well-informed.

So we see an awful lot of waffle, half truths, gobbledygook and nonsense in the press that carefully doesn’t explain what is really happening, avoids a few minor, trifling details such as HOW the recession was DELIBERATELY created, WHY it was CREATED and HOW it could be oh so easily ended should our politicians discover somewhere about their persons something known as a back bone.

And we see too a handful of greedy, middle-ranking spivs and shysters paraded before the media as the men responsible for bringing down global civilization. We get a kind of show-trail: parliament gets to look grave and statesmanlike (as opposed to actually DOING something effective to end the misery) the press gets to froth at the mouth and get all morally indignant (as opposed actually doing some real journalism and expose the actual scandal hidden under all this confusion) and we can all enjoy a Five Minute Hate….. and have our attention neatly distracted.

In the conjuring business they call it, I believe, misdirection. Control the public’s attention and direct it to where you want it to go, which is AWAY from what you are ACTUALLY doing.

Somebody threw a handful of sacrificial lambs to the wolves, a little coterie of greedy men who were guilty, yes, of riding the gravy train, but they neither built it nor drove it. The gravy train is still on its rails and chugging away nicely. It will be long after our sacrificial lambs have finished half-heartedly apologizing for having done something or other with some bank accounts, A few low-in-the-pecking-order lackeys will be forced to endure some embarrassment, told not to be naughty again and then be forgotten as some new calamity is shoved under the public’s nose.

Misdirection. This is not about a handful of fat cats. This is about tigers. But we are so busy throwing our shoes at the cats, we miss the tiger skulking in the undergrowth.

The press is a handy tool in the arsenal of weapons arrayed against the general population.

It is doing its job well.

Thanks boys and girls! Your dedication to the cause of human freedom is duly noted.
