To see the spires and opulent palaces of the ruling families of Saudi Arabia, you’d conjure fantastic images of the idyllic, privileged life led by those of the upper class. And no matter how extravagant your fantasies would be, chances are the reality would surpass it.

If you are a man, that is.

The fact is, females of all classes in Saudi Arabia are subject to discrimination and violence simply because they are female. Citizens, natives and visitors are all subject to Saudi law, which is harsh and unyielding and favors men in horrific and barbaric ways not even remotely consistent with modern times.

The truth is that the daily life for thousands of Western Women who work in Saudi Arabia is a nightmare, too far-fetched to comprehend without having been there. But registered nurse and author Mary Kavanwal has been there, and she wants the world to read her story.

Kavanwal spent more than twenty years working as a registered nurse in both the USA and Canada, to include contract work in India, Tahiti and the Middle East. She weaves her real-life experiences into her new book, “Surreal in Saudi” (www.tatepublishing.com), a harrowing tale of a Canadian nurse who finds herself thrust into the barbaric Saudi justice system and the shocking, secret world of palace life.

“As Westerners, it’s easy to take our freedoms for granted,” says Kavanwal. “While our culture is not immune to prejudice or discrimination, the systematic hostility women in Saudi must endure is horrifying. Not only are they treated as complete inferiors to men, when women are beaten or raped, it’s not a crime.”

According to Human Rights Watch, even though some human rights laws have been introduced in Saudi they’re rarely implemented or enforced. Women still suffer severe discrimination related to issues ranging from marriage rights, education and employment to appropriate clothing.

Male dominance, abuse, and oppression challenge the book’s main character, Emma, throughout the story. Emma is a nurse who leaves the picturesque beauty of Victoria, British Columbia to work for a hospital in Saudi. When her roommate of just a few days is arrested, Emma witnesses the horrifying conditions of a Saudi prison and the brutality of the judicial system’s punishment.

Sickened after seeing her roommate flogged in a public square to the cheers of a jeering crowd, Emma believes she’ll be insulated from danger when the hospital assigns her to a royal family. But behind the palace walls, she discovers a whole new level of depravity and human indifference.

“Human trafficking, sex slavery and indentured servitude are modern problems in Saudi,” says Kavanwal. “Women and children are the invisible victims. Whether they’re living in squalid conditions, raped and beaten, or held against their will, the inhumane treatment is difficult to fathom unless you’ve actually seen it yourself. “

Emma finds herself fighting enemies on many fronts- the powerful men who employ her, the devious servants who view her as a threatening outsider, and the colleague whose weaknesses could cost them their lives- and knowing whom to trust becomes a life or death challenge. Emma’s Christian faith, values and determination may be her only weapons to help survive the danger she faces at every turn.

“Surreal in Saudi” grabs the reader’s attention from the very first page. Descriptive writing captures the raw emotion and intensity of Emma’s predicament. The story is a real eye-opener to the struggles and abuses women in other countries suffer every day, and it gives readers a renewed sense of appreciation for the freedom and opportunities we have as Americans.

--
Mary Kavanwal’s first professional writing projects include writing for newspapers. As a registered nurse, she found a niche as a technical writer for the medical community. Her faith in God and philanthropic attitude prompted her to travel to exotic lands such as India, Tahiti, and the Middle East to practice medicine. Immersing herself in these societies, she discovered the diverse and complex facets of other cultures. “Surreal in Saudi” is a fictionalized account of Kavanwal’s own experience in the Middle East. www.tatepublishing.com

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Can Christianity Save America's Economy?

Americans don’t have to watch the TV news to hear doom and gloom reports on the economy – they need only check their own wallets.

The vitriolic debate over what it will take to kick start the economy again has led to sharp divisions among lawmakers and citizens alike. The national debt is ballooning at an unprecedented pace, and millions are wondering if anything can be done to return our nation’s sense of equilibrium.

While industry leaders, economists, and government officials haggle over the best strategy to revive the markets, many people are quietly turning to their faith in God to survive the financial maelstrom. Immersing in individual prayers and Bible studies may help them endure the stress of our times, but is it possible that Christians across America unwittingly hold the keys to saving America?

Author and religious researcher Russell Hamner says the answer is ‘yes.’ In his new book, “Awake: The Third Testament,” (Tate Publishing www.tatepublishing.com) Hamner explores what he considers to be pervasive misconceptions about the relationship between religion and government. He lays the framework by exploring common beliefs about Christianity and the role it played in founding our nation—and the enormous impact Christianity could have on stabilizing America’s economy.

“It always makes the news when an atheist sues over the words “under God” in the pledge of allegiance or because they’re offended by symbols of Christianity,” says Hamner. “They keep pushing their agenda that the Constitution wants to separate all mention of God from our government. The truth is that our forefathers clearly appealed to God for liberty, freedom, and protection when they founded our country.”

Read the Declaration of Independence and you’ll see the references to God, man’s Creator, and a ‘firm reliance on the protection of Providence.’ Hamner says because our forefathers founded America based on God’s will, it led to prosperity and good fortune for the nation. So fast forward 230+ years to the current financial crisis and the question is where do God and Christianity fit in now?

“The answer doesn’t come from creating a bigger federal government and trillions more in debt,” says Hamner. “The truth is our nation’s churches could solve this problem if they would unify. If the millions of Christians in America would form a singular church, uniting all the churches in the country, think about the incredible amount of money that would be raised in just one week. That money could be given to law enforcement to fight crime. The following week’s tithes could be directed at another problem and the end result would be a more efficient federal government that doesn’t have to focus on social issues because the national church would tackle it.”

“Awake: The Third Testament” takes readers on a journey through the ages. By starting off with exploration of the true meaning of God’s word in both the Old and New Testaments, to showing readers how religion, man and government are all intertwined, the book provides readers with some intriguing and timely food for thought.

--
Russell Hamner was born and raised in the south Texas Rio Grande Valley area. As a teenager, he began questioning mankind’s purpose and began an exhaustive study of religion. “Awake: The Third Testament” is the culmination of years of research and exploration. www.tatepublishing.com

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

A fundamentalist is one who believes in the basics of the faith. These basics of the Christian faith include: the literal 1st and 2nd coming of Christ, his virgin birth, his literal crucifixion and physical resurrection from the dead, the belief that salvation comes only through faith in Christ, and the Bible as being the inerrant Word of God.
Acknowledge God owns everything. Function confidently, knowing He's in control. Understand that He gives and takes away and love Him regardless. Express thanks no matter the situation. Sing and speak praises to Him in rough times just as in the good times. Are quick to obey; Bold to witness. Are quick to submit to Him and others. Are quick to forgive, and to ask forgiveness. Use our spiritual gifts; and the authority of His Name to accomplish things in our lives, and for others. Realize that worshiping Him includes our behavior and attitude as well as our prayers and singing.

This last proposition is often misunderstood because it is often confused with believing that one must always interpret the Bible literally. This is As ridiculous or repugnant these beliefs are to the liberal, none of the beliefs imply any set of political convictions that promote injustice.
It is not difficult to see that the stereotypes do not always hold true. Though many Christian fundamentalists voted for President Bush in the last election, my conversations with fellow fundamentalists tell me that a significant number of fundamentalists looked to the Democratic Party to provide a legitimate alternative--I myself voted for Nader.

During the summer, I visited a fellow fundamentalist friend of mine who was teaching at the Au Sable Institute in Michigan where Christian fundamentalist college students can study environmentalism. A fellow fundamentalist friend from England tells me that conservative Christians there tend to be politically liberal. I have fellow fundamentalist friends who are uncomfortable with or oppose the war in Iraq. There are a number of my fellow fundamentalists who oppose the current marginalization of the Palestinians practiced by Israel. My own church allowed their high school students to study a book containing the writings of Martin Luther King Jr.

--
I am member of <a href=”http://www.dayspringcenter.com “>www.dayspringcenter.com

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Can Religious Leaders Bring Peace to the Middle East?

In the Middle East, the tensions between India and Pakistan and the delivery of 20,000 more American troops to a Taliban-controlled Afghanistan are just three examples of trouble spots in the world whose maladies emanate from religious intolerance and outright malevolence.

The clashes, steeped in thousands of years of religious conflict, are already casting a pall over the upcoming presidency of Barack Obama, threatening to pull him into a variety of religious conflicts that has been plaguing American foreign policy for decades.

But in regions so dramatically divided along religious lines, it logically follows that it’s that religious leaders – not diplomats – would be the most effective brokers of peace. A worldwide organization called the Elijah Interfaith Institute promotes that very idea, suggesting that religious leaders of the world should set aside their ideological differences and tackle the issue of world peace. In his book The Thirteenth Apostle, Langdon Street Press (www.arkadybooks.com) researcher and author Arkady Povzikov reveals the potential for success in this worldwide vision. His controversial theories are certain to rattle the churches, temples and synagogues of the world’s religions, if for any other reason, they make sense.

Christians tend to think that if only Islam would shed its more radical elements and gravitate to a more moderate position, perhaps the major problems of the world could be solved.

"The problem, of course, is that Christians can be radical too," Povzikov said.

Those who practice other religions have their own lists of how the world would be a perfect place if the other religions would fall in line behind theirs.

"Everybody thinks their religion is the One," Povzikov said. "But if the religions of the world would agree to tackle serious world problems together, you could bring millions of hearts, hands and minds together to find a solution."

Povzikov thinks that this could happen, and explores the topic in his book. After he recently finished his book, he was surprised to find out that a group exists that proposes religions find common ground to solve worldwide problems. It is made up of more than 40 religious leaders in 15 countries representing Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jewish and Muslim faiths gathered to seek world unity and peace. The name of that group is “The Elijah Interfaith Group,” and while Povzikov supports the ideals and goals of the group, he is not an official member.

"I was stunned when I found out a group was actually doing what I had envisioned, but the problem remains that too few people know about it," he said.

In his book, Povzikov layers a fictional story over a foundation of truths, similar in style to the DaVinci Code. The truths concern world religions, Russia as it existed before the Soviet Union and as it exists today, and a quest to find the truth about the heritage of his main character. His book uncovers a jarring world secret through loss, love and human experience, and weaves an intricate storyline.

"Any true campaign for peace in many o the troubled regions of the world must include a seat at the table for religious leaders, but it cannot be a stage for them to spout the same old demagoguery and hatred,” Povzikov said. “We must remember that it is only the extremists who advocate violence, and that the millions of followers of Islam and other non-Christian religions favor peaceful coexistence to violence and chaos. If we can gather leaders from both the spiritual and political elements of these countries, we may have the first real chance for peace that these regions have seen in a thousand years."

--
Povzikov was born in Leningrad in the former Soviet Union. After studying economics, he immigrated to Canada in 1973. After graduating from high school and the Industrial College he served in the Soviet Army. In1987 Arkady began writing his first novel Goodbye to the Nevsky, a fiction based novel that told the story of his own unique experiences in life, and it was published in 1991. Arkady's second novel The Purpose was published in 2005. His third and most recent novel The Thirteenth Apostle was published in May 2008 through Langdon Street Press.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Mind: Master or Servant?

We rush about in search of unknown experience, but unfortunately, you always take the same mind with you. Many modern scientists do not fully understand the theory of mind over matter. Too often they equate control of the mind with mental institutions, drugs, and biofeedback techniques. They do not realize that the soul stands above both mind and body, which it uses for its expression and evolution. The mind is a hard taskmaster. It insists that we jump when it says jump, that we eat when it says eat.
One desire can multiply and destroy the best intentions. The secret of conquering the tyranny of the mind is to play the game. By continuously controlling the thought waves, or by observing but not identifying with them, you can reduce and eventually stop them. Unity already exists.

It is our true nature but has been forgotten through ignorance. Removal of the evil of ignorance, the idea that we are confined within body and mind, is the chief aim of any spiritual practice.
The constant attempt to feel that you are the all can and ought to be practiced in the midst of intense activity. Let the mind and bodywork, but feel that you are above them as their controlling witness. Do not identify with them. If the senses are under full control, perfect peace and solitude can be found even in the noisiest and most crowded city.
From The Unreal to real:
Meditation is an experience that cannot be described, just as colors cannot be described to a blind man. All ordinary experiences are limited by time, space and the law of cause and effect. Normal awareness and understanding do not transcend these bounds. Finite experience cannot be transcendental, for it is measured in terms of past, present and future.
Meditation is the source of real rest. True deep sleep is a rare occurrence. During dreams the mind remains active, working subtly. There is little true rest during sleep. In meditation, when the mind is fully concentrated, far away from object and near the Atman, the Self, a lasting, spiritual, blissful rest, is experienced. Once meditation is achieved, the time normally devoted to sleep will gradually be reduced to as little as three or four hours.
On the purely physical level, meditation helps to prolong the body’s anabolic process of growth and repair and to reduce the catabolic, decaying process. Ordinarily the anabolic process predominates until the age of eighteen. Between eighteen and thirty-five the catabolic process sets in. Meditation significantly reduces this decline because of the innate receptivity of body cells to its benign vibrations.
Modern research substantiates the fact that the mind can control the activity of a single cell, as well as groups of cells. Each of the body cells is governed by the instinctive, subconscious mind. Each has both individual and collective consciousness. When thoughts and desires pour into the body, the cells are activated, and the body obeys the group demand.
Meditation is a powerful tonic. During meditation there is generally a tremendous acceleration of energy to the individual cells. Just as negative thoughts can pollute them, positive thoughts rejuvenate them and retard decay. Penetrating all the cells, its vibrations can prevent and cure diseases.
With meditation comes freedom from fear of death. Most people think that death is the end of existence, but in fact, death means only the extinction of the present name and form. The greater the identification with name and form, the greater the fear. The practice of meditation induces detachment from name and form. It makes one aware of the ever-changing nature of the body and of all phenomenal existence. Thank you for reading my article, I love to hear any ones opinion or suggestions.
Why do we close our eyes when we pray?

Most people close their eyes, when they pray. This is the general practice. The eyes remain closed, as we join our hands or bow our heads in the presence of God. But in most instances, the mind remains active and distracted as usual. In such cases, prayer becomes just another activity, some kind of a ritual performed to keep our fears and feelings of insecurity assuaged.

The truth is, when we pray we should close not only just our eyes, but all the other senses and the mind as well. We cannot approach the divine with a disturbed mind and distracted attention. We have to shut ourselves completely or detach ourselves from the external world, in order to find the center of peace and positive energy within.

The image in front of us, if we choose to keep one, is helpful in keeping the mind steady and concentrated. It acts like a front door through which, we can enter the House of God. If the senses are under control and mind is not distracted, we are in a better position to bring ourselves in tune with our higher aspirations and thereby in tune with the higher forces of the Universe.

There is another method, prescribed by some schools of devotional theism, in which the devotees are allowed to pray and sing while gazing adoringly at the image of their personal deity for prolonged periods of time, with their senses fully awake, and their minds filled with rapturous devotion and full concentration. This generally results in the devotees' falling into trance or some trance like mental state. Here the highest form of devotion is manifested in the ordinary plane of consciousness and the divine is almost pulled into the earthly plane by its magnetic force.

In some cases this practice is allowed to go to the extremes. Here the devotees not only sing and dance, but give full expression to their heartfelt emotions, till they fall into some kind of trance or ecstatic state. The ideas of detachment and renunciation of the worldly life, which are central to all spiritual life, become manifested in their mode of worship.

It is difficult to say which of these methods one should follow. It depends upon each individual, his or her religious background, and inner disposition. Some people prefer the silent way of praying, because they feel more comfortable with it and like to communicate with God through the silent recesses of their minds. Some people prefer the noisy way, bringing out the best and worst in them so that in the end they feel a greater calm descending upon them through the enervated body and mind and charging them with divine energy. They feel transformed and purified through exhaustion.

God, being what He is, perhaps would not discriminate between one devotee and another. Perhaps He is amused by all the approaches and treats all his devotees with the same love and attention. What make the difference are the sincerity and the child like purity of approach, backed by unwavering mind and firm faith.Thank you for reading my article, I love to hear any ones opinion or suggestions. Good luck to everyone.

--

Alka Kaushik is a freelance copywriter and journalist with a particular interest in health and wellness.
An Introduction to Pet Psychic Reading

Pet psychic readings are done by communicating with animals through the use of their electromagnetic energy. Pet psychics are people gifted with the ability for animal communication; they are individuals who can see into an animal’s soul just by seeing its electromagnetic energy. Physical location is not a factor in pet psychic reading, as most pet psychic readers can read into the animal even if your pet is not in the same room. They can even do so even if your beloved pet has already passed away.

History of pet psychic readings

The first known pet psychic readings date back to WWI, when the Association for Research and Enlightenment began studying paranormal and psychic abilities in humans. With the discovery that there are some people who can communicate telepathically also came the discovery that humans can also connect with animals, even animals who have already passed into the next life. The number of pet psychics steadily increased in the 1930s although the practice still faced much ridicule from society. This impression changed somewhat with the launch of the TV show ‘The Pet Psychic,’ hosted by Sonya Fitzpatrick.

Why get a pet psychic reading

People request for pet psychic readings for various reasons. Perhaps the most common reasons for these include the need to correct behavior problems in the pet, to enhance the owner’s relationship with the pet, and to diagnose health problems that your pet may have. Lost pet psychic readings are also done for owners who have lost a pet and feel like their pet is sending them a message but can’t seem to understand what it is. Pet psychic readings can help deliver the message of your pet to you. They can also help you get a glimpse of what your pet will need in the future. Pet psychic readings have also been fond useful in tracking down lost pets.

How to read your pet

Most pet psychics rely on different techniques when doing psychic readings. However, most techniques rely on being relaxed so that you also transmit this relaxed energy to your pet. In some instances you may need to look into the eyes of your pet in the beginning of the session to focus on its energy. Since most pets tend to be restless, another alternative is to close your eyes and visualize your pet as a haze of white light that is sitting next to you. From here, you can begin to communicate with your pet, telling it what you want it to do or not to do and visualizing that behavior that you want your pet to take on. You can do the same if you have any questions that you want to ask of your pet. The most important thing is to remain relaxed, calm, and receptive of the answers. Getting hold of the first impression, or the first vision that comes into your mind after you ask your question, is important because the first impressions that you get are usually the correct ones. Experts suggest doing this over and over, as your ability to read your pet will eventually get better with constant practice.

If you are doing pet psychic readings online or by phone, your pet psychic will usually ask for your pet’s name, age, sex, color, and breed. This information will help them form a mental picture of your pet and assist them in feeling out your pet’s personality and energy. It's also not uncommon for another animal to come through during a pet psychic session with a deceased pet, as most animal spirits are playful and eager to communicate with the living.

--
Giovanni Paolo Migliore is the author of several articles about pet psychics and pet psychic readings.
Angel readings are one of the most powerful psychic readings being done by mediums and clairvoyants today. In an angel reading, your medium or clairvoyant talks to your angel guides and relays the information back to you. The medium or clairvoyant receives these messages as auditory signals (as if the angel were sitting next to the person and talking to him or her) or through visual images shown to him or her by your angel guide.

The benefits of angel readings

Angel readings are done for a variety of reasons, but mostly to help people know what lies in front of them, to know the reason and meaning for the events in their lives, and to help them uncover behavior, emotions, and other traits that may be negatively affecting how they are living their lives. Angel readings have been successful in helping people discover hidden talents and abilities to help them achieve their full potentials in life.

History of angel readings

Official records of angel readings being practiced were found to date back to the 1700s done by one Eliphas Levi, a priest, writer, and teacher. This Catholic priest studied other religions extensively because of his interest in the spiritual. He also studied metaphysics, astrology, and astronomy. His studies led to the creation of the tarot cards, now a useful method in communicating with spirits and in perceiving the future. The fascination with angel readings travelled to the West in the 1900s in WWI, although it provoked a host of mixed reactions from people. Some believed that angel readings and other forms of communication with the other side were the work of the devil, while some viewed the process of communicating with spirits and angels as a way to find hope and direction.

How to talk to your angel guides

Talking to your angel guides is possible with the mediation of a medium or a clairvoyant. Depending on the ability of your medium, you can get the message according to the way the message was delivered, whether it was said in a serious or humorous tone, whether it was said in a calm, soothing voice or in an angry one, or whether the message was meant to warn, to help, or simply to send a message of love. You can also communicate with your angel through angel card readings which consist of picking a card from a deck of angel cards. You ask your angel a question and hold that question in your mind as the deck of cards is laid out in front of you.

There are some important tips that you can use while talking with angels to get the most of your experience. Experts advice that you practice relaxed breathing and breathe this way while communicating with your angels. This will relax your mind and make you more receptive to the messages of your angel guide. It is also important to ask for your angel’s help when you want to contact them in the future, and to ask for signs to help you know that they are there. If you feel like you have an angel spirit and have not been successful in confirming this, continue to ask for a sign from your spirit guide so that its presence can be made clearer to you.

--
Giovanni Paolo Migliore is the author of numerous articles about angel reading.
