UK Renewable Energy Powering Up The Near Future

Renewable energy will probably be powering up the future the UK, based on the 2012 update to the Renewable Energy Roadmap published this month by Energy Secretary Edward Davey.

Substantial progress has been produced on the rollout of renewable energy across the United kingdom from July 2011 to July 2012, such as:

A 27 per cent increase in overall renewable electricity generated;
A 40 per cent improve over the same period in renewable electrical energy capacity. Now over 10 per cent of all electrical energy generated is coming from renewables;
A 60 per cent improve of offshore wind capacity to two.five gigawatts, and;
A five-fold improve in solar PV capacity.
The Roadmap shows that the UK is on track to meeting our initial interim target on the method to the ambitious European target to source 15 per cent of all energy from renewable sources by 2020.

Edward Davey, Energy and Climate Change Secretary, said: "Renewable energy is increasingly powering the UK's grid, and the economy as well.

"It's a great achievement that more than ten percent of our power now comes from renewables, offered the point from which we began.

"Right now, getting new infrastructure investment into the economy is essential to driving growth and supporting jobs across the nation. I am determined that we get ahead in the international race on renewables and develop around the big-money investments we've noticed this year."

John Hayes, Minister of State for Energy, said: "Energy is essential to our financial well-being, bringing in significant investment and supporting jobs across the country.

"I firmly think that a diverse energy mix will be the very best method to ensure our energy safety. It is very encouraging that we have made such good actions on renewable energy as part of that mix."

The Roadmap also shows that within the final year the costs of many renewable technologies have fallen. For instance, the cost of solar PV has fallen by 50 per cent, using the technologies now identified as a key technology in the Roadmap update.
