For most people it's their job and how much money they make. While that's one measure of accomplishment and achievement, it's only one.

I was engaged in a conversation with new friend I made and listening to her talk was heart wrenching and a nice reality check for me.

So many people are trapped in their own lives it scares me. First you should know that the only reason it's a bad thing to be trapped in your own life is it completely stops the natural growth progression that you are meant to experience.

And that conversation with my new friend is a great example of that.

She's in her mid 40's and has a job that pays her a pretty decent salary. She brings home 6 figures a year in salary plus additional bonuses.

But when she talked to me every word was full of desperate energy. Every sound she muttered had frustration, confusion and a sense of defeat in it.

Her words were confident and powerful words but they didn't have that energy behind them.

She used words like independent, leadership, project management, the ability to drive things to completion and so on but her face was droopy and eyes were dead.

Then she mentioned that the previous week she participated in a project for Habitat for Humanity. Her and some co-workers went and put a new floor in someones house who needed it but didn't have the means to do it.

What happened then was powerful. She lit up like a shooting star, her posture straightened up, her eyes filled with love and life, her words become genuinely confident and powerful, and her entire existence was filled with a sense of purpose and fulfillment.

As we chatted about her charitable experience she stayed full of high energy and life. The more her body would change the more excited she became. And then it happened...

I asked her why she didn't do more of that type of work. Her answer was simple, it didn't pay enough. She said it's impossible to add that kind of contribution to the world and make as much money as she makes.

And within 30 seconds she was slumped over and looked like hell again. It's like a little guy in the control center of her body just flipped the switch and turned the lights out!

I was in complete fascination. How can it be that powerful of a difference and that obvious but still be so confusing?

See, to my new friend her highest value was being defined as a successful woman and the association to success she has is how much money she makes.

So I asked her, “How does it feel to be an unhappy success?” She looked at me and had a short circuit in her brain. She couldn't comprehend being “successful” but still very unfulfilled and unhappy.

Success, how ever you define it, is supposed to make you feel good and if it doesn't it's a sign that somethings gotta change!

When you're unhappy in your life it's like those little lights that turn on your car when you need oil or something like that. It's an indicator that somethings not on track here and if you keep going the direction your going your headed for a major breakdown.

So ask yourself the question, “What defines the level of success you experience in your life? And do you need to make any changes or “add any fluids”?”

And always remember that everything you ever experience is dynamic energy and is constantly changing. When you add gas to car and you go somewhere you use that gas and end up needing more.

Life is the same way. As you make corrections and travel down new and exciting roads you will need to refill your tank also. Maybe spirituality maybe emotionally, maybe mentally, maybe financially, definitely physically or maybe all of those things but one things for sure, what ever you decide defines success for you will determine which way you need to go to get it. And if it's not something that fills your body with energy like my friends brief experience with Habitat for Humanity, listen to the message and keep exploring life. It's a pretty fun thing to do with the right perspective...

Why Can't You Let Go?: Analyzing the Underlying Reasons Why You Are Desperately Hooked on Your Man http://www.articletrader.com/self-improvement/happiness/why-cant-you-let-go-analyzing-the-underlying-reasons-why-you-are-desperately-hooked-on-your-man.html http://www.articletrader.com/self-improvement/happiness/why-cant-you-let-go-analyzing-the-underlying-reasons-why-you-are-desperately-hooked-on-your-man.html Fri, 12 Dec 2008 01:21:59 -0600 You have girlfriends who had undergone the same dilemma and were able to move on. Although it was hard, they made it through the painful ordeal. But why can't you? What is holding you back from moving on? Why is letting go such a pain for you? Although love cemented your relationship with him, there are other underlying reasons behind it that explain why letting go is so hard for you.
He is your knight in shining armor; the prince charming who introduced you to a life filled with wonders; the man you have always dreamed of.
Having allowed yourself to indulge in fantasies of spending eternity with him because he is the “one” for you has catapulted your emotional attachment to debilitating heights. The more people fantasize about spending their life with someone, the more emotionally attached they become to him/her. Thus, when the fantasy comes to a close, anxiety, the other face of attachment, takes over.
You believe that there is no other man for you.
Do not let yourself be cornered by this mentality. Many other people who have had their hearts broken also thought of the same thing but eventually found the right one for them later on. The pain of losing him is severe, but you also have to keep in mind that there are others out there who could love you more than he did and are more deserving of being loved by you in return.
You could never have the chance of finding a better relationship. Nor can you find a better man.
Letting yourself be governed by this poisonous way of seeing things would only drive you to ruin. Remember that all of us are capable of forming happy relationships. Each of us has the right to be happy with the kind of people who could satisfy our needs.
You have shared to much of yourself and your life with him.
Emotional attachments are strengthened and deepened by the moments people share with their special someone. Because you have learned to be emotionally and personally intimate with him, imagining how life would be like without him is enough to make you go crazy. Going through with the automatic playback of these memories that would haunt you from time to time after the relationship has ended is the most difficult part of learning to get over him. But in due time, given that you no longer hold out for him, thinking that there is a chance for your love story to have a continuation, your hurt feelings would wane until the pain disappears. Looking on the bright side, since you have learned how to be emotionally intimate with him, you can now have a better chance of forming a deeper and better intimate relationship with somebody else.

How to get more out of life http://www.articletrader.com/self-improvement/happiness/how-to-get-more-out-of-life.html http://www.articletrader.com/self-improvement/happiness/how-to-get-more-out-of-life.html Fri, 09 May 2008 00:00:00 -0500
Are you where you want to be in your life? You want happiness and success, yet you can’t seem to get any closer to achieving that wonderful life, even after years of trying?

Let me ask you, have you heard these two statements before: ‘It’s all in the mind’ or ‘Stop thinking you are sick and you’ll feel better.’ Ponder over these statements for a minute. Do you think there is any truth in them? There definitely is. That’s the power of thought in action. Stop thinking you’re sick and sure enough you will feel and become better.

The thoughts that you have in your mind are preventing you from living a blissful life. Your moment-by-moment thoughts shape your life, your destiny.

Everything and anything in your world and mine happens as a result of the power of our thoughts. When Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone it was first a thought. Colonel Sanders first thought of the idea of his chicken recipe. Walt Disney first had the thought of a massive fairground. They all started as thoughts. Action followed. But they all began as a thought.

Look at the simple day-to-day events. You think about getting out of bed. You think about what to have for breakfast, what clothes to wear, to remember to take your umbrella. Every step of your life is followed by a thought. Everything you do is directed by your thoughts.

Your principal thoughts that you have held over the years form your life. These ‘inner’ thoughts create your present and future ‘outer’ world. In other words, your thoughts affect your outcomes.

Since your thoughts affect your life and what you think about materialises, it goes to say that it is crucial that you mind your thoughts; that you keep a watchful eye on your moment-by-moment thoughts.

If someone constantly talks about their lack of money, or that they cannot afford to buy this or that, for example, then their principal thoughts are, ‘I don’t have enough money in my life.’ And since lacking money is their primary thought and focus, they will continue to lack money. The same goes for lacking self-confidence. If they walk around saying ‘I can’t do this or that’, then they will remain where they are in their life; unable to move ahead because they have no self-confidence. That’s the way the brain works. What you focus on happens.

Things do not improve until you change your thoughts. You need to change your thinking patterns.

Your financial situation will change when you take charge of your life by setting new empowering money thoughts. You will take action by having the thoughts that drive you to take action. Similarly, you will have happiness in your life when you adopt the happiness thought patterns.

You create your circumstances with your thoughts. Your thoughts are creating something every moment of every day. And the scary thing that you must realise is that most events, outcomes and circumstances are created unconsciously; without any awareness or conscious effort on your part.

How did that come about? If you went through life saying statements like, ‘I’ll never be rich’ ‘I don’t deserve this’ ‘Life sucks’ ‘Life is just one pain after the next’ ‘I can’t do this,’ you have created thoughts that you will never have any money, that you will remain unhappy in your life and stay stuck where you are now.

When you ask yourself later in life why you feel unconfident in certain situations, or why your finances have not improved, you will have forgotten that you programmed yourself not to feel confident or to have any money years ago.

Then no matter what you do at a conscious level, irrespective of how much you want to be rich, live a happy life, or be a success, your core, unconscious thoughts prescribe the opposite, which is your reality.

The core thoughts you have bring about circumstances in your life that are in complete opposition to what it is you want in your life.

Instead of being oblivious of the power of thoughts, you can choose to have the thoughts than will change all that, so you may genuinely live the life you desire. And you do so by reprogramming your thoughts.

Instead of lacking money to do what you want or have, instead of not having the motivation to get ahead in life, you can replace these damaging thoughts with powerful thoughts that can give you all that you desire in life and more in a short period of time.

Always keep in mind your unconscious thought patterns dictate every aspect of your life. Take control of your unconscious, core, habitual thoughts now. You deserve to live a happy and successful life.

Eliminate Fear of Driving with Forward Moving Actions http://www.articletrader.com/self-improvement/happiness/eliminate-fear-of-driving-with-forward-moving-actions.html http://www.articletrader.com/self-improvement/happiness/eliminate-fear-of-driving-with-forward-moving-actions.html Sat, 21 Mar 2009 16:27:55 -0500
Taking no action at all most often results in overwhelming circumstances. Everyone does this at one time or another and it can be halted and corrected. And we often defend our inactions with irrational reasons to convince ourselves (and others) that we don't need to take action. Why do we make it harder for ourselves to achieve success when there is so much that we can do about it?

Positively taking 'forward moving actions' does remarkably start to immediately eliminate driving fears. At first it might only eliminate a small amount of fear but more opportunities and advantages will be presented to us thus accelerating the process as long as we keep taking action.

Eliminating a fear of driving is like the first steps of a baby. Before we ever learned to walk by ourselves we started out with zero skills. Everyone went through a certain phase of their lives where they must stand up and take those first few actions. After successfully taking action time and time again, we learned to walk on our own and were able to go places we had never been before. But we didn't give up! We kept walking and practicing and getting better at it. The same is with eliminating a fear of driving or any fear for that matter.

The benefits of taking “forward moving action” are as follows:
-Progress: we learn to develop and move forward in achieving our goal
-Accomplishment: we accomplish something, resulting in increasing our confidence, control, and self esteem.
-Positive vision: It allows us to remove the negative thoughts that we create when we don't take action. It cleans our minds to think more positively.
-More Action: Taking action allows us and encourages us to take even more action. It helps us grow and develop even more skills.

One of the best things in “taking action” is that we are able to do more, and we have considerably more actions to now choose from. This is especially true with eliminating driving fears, since there are thousands of opportunities to build skills once those first actions are taken and built on.

Where we often make it more difficult is thinking that there is only one 'correct' action to take. Every problem has more than one solution and there is always one better answer. Taking action whether it’s the best or not is better than taking no action at all. It is also important to know the difference between positive actions and negative actions, as well as 'forward moving actions' and doing the same old actions. Knowing this difference requires self-honesty and it’s our own responsibility to build these particular traits.

The things that we’ve learned here so far will help each of us obtain different skills and knowledge thus eliminating fear. But it is imperative for us to know that it is up to us to take the next step in our lives. Those simple steps and actions will positively lead us to bigger personal developments and achievements today and for the immediate future.

Before ending this chapter about “Forward Moving Action” to eliminate a fear of driving, I want you to know that everyone has their own actions to take and no two people are at the same place in their personal evolution. There are people who can take actions that others are not ready for. That is OK! There is no need to stress and pressure yourself about this. Doing so only creates more negative thoughts, fears and inaction. People have different sets of skills (due to past actions). The idea is to learn about where we are at personally and develop and build from there.

Start experimenting with your skills. Start eliminating your fear of driving one action at a time. Just keep moving forward. The world has so many possibilities. As long as we start and continue taking “forward moving actions”, we will be successful in eliminating any fear we want.

'Forward Moving Actions' is element one of "10 Key Elements To Eliminating Any and All Fear of Driving and Becoming a More Skilled, More Confident, Well-rounded Motorist!" by Alex Hunter author, fear elimination coach and founder of the Academy of Road Mastery. Happiness Factor: Detaching From The Outcome http://www.articletrader.com/self-improvement/happiness/happiness-factor-detaching-from-the-outcome.html http://www.articletrader.com/self-improvement/happiness/happiness-factor-detaching-from-the-outcome.html Sun, 08 Feb 2009 08:10:11 -0600
One of the main causes for many people being unhappy is that they are dissatisfied with the condition in which they find themselves, they are unhappy with their job, or their relationships, or their physical appearance, the list can go on and on for centuries. The central theme is that people find themselves dissatisfied with the outcome they have achieved, but to me the root of the problem is that they have set up a certain expectation for themselves, and if that expectation is not met most people choose to go down a self destructive path. This is how most people end up being defined as "failures." An interesting thing to note is that you are never a failure until you label yourself as such, if someone else labels you a failure it means nothing! But that is something we will get into another day.

But if we just set about at life, and live each moment as though it were the only moment we have (which it is), and put all of our very best energy into doing whatever it is that we are doing at that moment without concentrating on what will happen when it's complete, or who will or will not be impressed by what we have accomplished we will find a whole new avenue of gratification opening up, we find that our abilities reach far beyond whatever our prior limitations were and discover whole new heights to which we can soar.

Oft times when we attempt to detach ourselves from the outcome we expect that in detaching ourselves from the outcome that the most favorable outcome will magically appear at all times, and when it doesn't happen that way we become upset and fall back into old patterns of thinking. In reality we never left those old patterns of thought behind, we were attempting to detach only to try and achieve a particular result, but that's not detachment, that's delusion.

When we truly detach from the outcome we find that it does not matter what the result is, if we are going through life with enjoyment, and love, and satisfaction in what we do (trust me, you can be satisfied in what you currently do, in at least some way) we then discover that life is its own reward, and that it may not be that we will inherit all the riches of the world, or we may not inherit the perfect job, but when we live life to the fullest every day, without expecting anything in return we increase the amount of peace in our lives, I'm not saying resign yourself to your current position and stay there, not at all. I am saying when you have no attachment to the outcome you are not disappointed, you accept what has happened and move forward with your planned objectives instead of letting yourself become stopped by unfavorable circumstances.

Essentially we are looking again for peace, and as the Gita says, "how can there be any happiness without peace?"

Be peaceful, live your life to the fullest every day and separate yourself from the outcome, this is a surefire way to move ahead in your own self development.

* Audio Books *

More and more books are being published in audio format. You can download them online in MP3, WMA, or proprietary formats. Big online booksellers like Amazon sell audio productions on CD - but there is a plethora of free resources as well! Try internet searches such as:

-free audio books

-free books on CD

-free book recordings

You will locate thousands of websites! Some websites provide public domain classics, complete from cover-to-cover. Try searches similar to the following to locate thousands of hours of free material:

-free audio robinson crusoe

-free audio tale of two cities

* What? You Don't Have Time to LISTEN to Books Either? *

EVERYONE has time. If you own a small MP3 or WMA player with earbuds, you can listen while performing activities such as:

-Commuting to work via car, bus, or subway

-Housecleaning

-During bathroom breaks

-Standing in line at the bank or grocery store

-Waiting for long downloads on your computer

-Weeding the garden

-Shoveling snow

-Exercising and jogging

Anytime you are performing repetitive tasks, you can plug in and listen. If you usually fall asleep to a TV in the bedroom at night, consider switching to audio recordings instead.

* Safety First *

There are some important steps you must take to safeguard your hearing and to avoid accidents.

1. Be very careful when setting the volume level. It should be only one or two notches above the spot where you must strain to hear what is being said.

2. If using noise-cancelling earphones or earbuds, or the type with memory-foam noise reduction, be very sure that you can hear things like the telephone and smoke alarm (while indoors) or ambulance sirens and car horns (while driving).

3. Never listen when navigating city traffic or performing activities that require your full concentration.

* Create Your Own Recordings *

Your computer operating system probably has a built-in function to rip audio from CDs and convert everything to MP3 or WMA. WMA is more compact than MP3, and there are many audio players that support both formats. You can also find freeware and shareware which will convert to/from WAV, MP3, WMA and other proprietary formats. Try a search like:

-convert MP3 WMA

* This Recording is Too Loud but I Can Hardly Hear The Rest! *

You will probably experience wide fluctuations in volume when downloading off the internet and even when creating your own recordings. However, there is software that will quickly equalize the volume of all your MP3s to a predetermined level. MP3Gain is freeware for Windows that works very efficiently. There are other programs as well, including MacMP3Gain. Try searching for:

-MP3 Gain

-MacMP3Gain

-equalize volume MP3

* Audio Books Make Great Gifts *

Audio books are excellent gifts for just about any occasion. Why? You can find audio recordings for almost any subject - including language lessons, alphabet rhymes for children, management programs for business people, 'how to' titles, and sound tracks for movies.

* Are Books Dead? *

I firmly believe that there will always be a place for books - whether in print form, on the internet, or in ebook readers. Let's not lose touch with one of the greatest art forms - literature. Take a few minutes now and then to experience and enjoy the thoughts put into words by the great literary artists of today and yesterday.

4 Attitudes to Have to Avoid Problems in Relationships http://www.articletrader.com/self-improvement/happiness/4-attitudes-to-have-to-avoid-problems-in-relationships.html http://www.articletrader.com/self-improvement/happiness/4-attitudes-to-have-to-avoid-problems-in-relationships.html Sat, 11 Oct 2008 00:00:00 -0500
Unfortunately, there could many problems in relationships. Misunderstanding, for instance, could easily happen that cause a relationship to suffer. A relationship that has been built for long time could suffer just because of a misunderstanding.

So it's important to ensure that you have good attitudes that can avoid problems in relationships. Having these attitudes won't just benefit you in your relationships. Eventually they will also benefit you in other areas of your life.

Here are four attitudes you should have to avoid relationship problems:

1. Accept yourself

First of all, you should be in peace with yourself. If you don't accept yourself, it will be difficult for you accept others. You may make mistakes in the past, but make sure that you forgive yourself. Or perhaps you don't have the background you desire. In that case, learn to be grateful with what you have instead of feeling jealous of others.

2. Have realistic expectations

If you want to avoid relationship problems, you should have realistic expectations toward others. You can't expect everyone else to be like you. You can't expect them to think or act the way you want it. Everyone is different and what is right for you might not be right for them.

3. Listen first

Many problems in relationship come from the fact that we demand others to understand us first. But things will be much easier if we try to understand them first. So learn to be a good listener. Listen to what others explicity and implicitly say. Try to look from their point of view. By doing this, they will feel appreciated and will in turn be more receptive toward you.

4. Admit your mistakes

This is perhaps one of the most difficult things to do in relationships. Our ego often comes in the way of admitting our mistakes. Many people are willing to do many other things as long as they don't have to admit that they are wrong. But sometimes we need to put our ego aside and be willing to admit our mistakes. Don't feel bad about admitting mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes and the ones who are willing to admit theirs are actually those who are mature.

***

These four attitudes will help you avoid problems in your relationships. We may want others to change for us, but that's something beyond your control. What you can surely change is yourself and there's where you should start.

The Search for Inner Renewal http://www.articletrader.com/self-improvement/happiness/the-search-for-inner-renewal.html http://www.articletrader.com/self-improvement/happiness/the-search-for-inner-renewal.html Thu, 03 Jan 2008 00:00:00 -0600
But, here's the thing that I do know, it takes a lot longer to gestate a mighty oak than it does a willow. You've got to have a lot more tenacity, a lot more staying with it power and a lot more faith and belief, and yet it must work. It absolutely works, so it's very exciting.

When my colleague James Ray was going into the Oprah show, they said she's really booked today, two shows, and so you got to keep the time. You won't have a lot of time to chit chat or to hang out. Well, she was so excited that she continued to shoot for an hour. Once the show was done, she said keep the cameras rolling. She shot an entire other hour and that's called the Oprah After the Show.

There's a movement happening and there's a spiritual revolution that's being put on the airwaves. Please understand it when I say spiritual I'm not talking about religion, although religion is wonderful. You know, the spirituality I'm speaking of is the realm of the intangible where you can tap into that energy from where you came and who you are, call it God, call it the genie like James did in The Secret. Call it your higher conscious mind. You can tap into that energy and bring that energy into manifestation, and so there's a revolution happening where people's hearts and minds are opening up and they're really becoming aware of what they're capable of and I'm truly enthused to be a part of that.

People are searching out for inner renewal, aren't they? They're thirsty for inner renewal

Small Treasures http://www.articletrader.com/self-improvement/happiness/small-treasures.html http://www.articletrader.com/self-improvement/happiness/small-treasures.html Wed, 21 Nov 2007 00:00:00 -0600 next door. I saw Sue in her cute shorts and bright floral top and Phil in his baggies washing the windows. It is spring cleaning time, time for cleaning and a time for fixing. The front door needs new paint, the kitchen faucet is leaking again, the closet door is stuck and mending to be done. Things we keep.
It is the way life is. It often makes me crazy and seems it will never end. All that fixing and repairing. Can’t I just replace that front door and buy new faucets? I just once wanted to be wasteful. Waste means prosperity. Throwing away things meant there would always be more.

But last year when my grandmother passed away at her favorite time of year, autumn with the leaves in their most beautiful colors, I sat in the hospital thinking about her life and what a treasure she was to me and our family. I was struck with the pain and sadness that there isn’t any more.

Sometimes what we love, and care for the most goes away-- never to return again. We think – how does this happen? So while we have it – it is best to cherish it – nourish it – and fix it when it is broken – and nurse us when we are ill.

This is the truth. For life—marriage – old bicycles – children who love arguing with us – dogs and cats with arthritis – and our aging parents and grandparent. We keep them and love them because they are worth it – they bring us joy. We are worth it. We need them. Some things we just keep. Like that best friend who moved away after college or the boy next door that we grew up with.

There are some things that just make life important and worth while, like people who are special in our life – so, we keep them as close as we can. Don’t let go of what we treasure.

Astrology in America and the World http://www.articletrader.com/self-improvement/happiness/astrology-in-america-and-the-world.html http://www.articletrader.com/self-improvement/happiness/astrology-in-america-and-the-world.html Tue, 22 Apr 2008 00:00:00 -0500
Horoscopes, which are the most basic interpretations, are based on which sign was in effect when a person was born; and whether a person was born on the "cusp," which means the very beginning or very end of the particular sign. In addition to utilizing a sign to determine life events and predict one's future, a sign is also thought to be relevant to learning about specific characteristics of one's personality and even predisposition toward various potential health conditions, as one's sign is believed to govern certain parts of one's body. Odd as it may sound, many who have carefully studied this type of information have found it to be quite accurate. For example, while every Virgo is not "practical," "fastidious," and "strong-minded," this trait is indeed a common factor amongst many who were born under this sign; and while all who were born under the sign of Virgo do not develop stomach, intestinal, or reproductive difficulties, many Virgos are indeed more prone to these problems than other people.

Another form of astrology is Indian astrology, which is also called Jyotisa, or Vedic astrology. Its foundation is the belief of connection between the microcosm and the macrocosm the smaller parts and the universal. Although interest in Vedic astrology is widespread, as it is currently practiced in India it is a significant part of their culture, as people rely on it for all of the important decisions in their lives, from business to marriage.

During the last few decades, Indian astrology has become internationally popular, but it has been a part of India's culture for centuries. Vedic astrology is said to have first been revealed more than 7000 years ago. Thus, what is said to have originated with the Brahma has spread in popularity to such places as Arizona, which is the home of the American College of Vedic Astrology, currently offering online courses for those interested in learning how to become certified astrologers. Most astrologers offering Vedic astrology readings, however, are located in India.

Chinese astrology is based on the calendar cycle, rather than on constellations. In this form of astrology, the zodiac signs are named after animals the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig. Going by the Chinese calendar, each of these animals are assigned to the lunar months. The animals are also assigned to the time of day during which the individual person was born.
