If you own large pieces solely, invest in a carry-on bag. It's your insurance you won't be at a complete loss if your luggage disappears into the ether of the claims department. Additionally, you're covered if something happens to your flight, stranding you in the airport overnight. Pack smartly, you'll be able to pack more than you realize. Now, what to bring:

1. Bar none, this is the most important. If you take prescribed medicines, make sure you put them in your overnight bag. If your medicine is stored in a lost checked bag, you'll be forced to do a lot of scrambling. The major drug stores, like Walgreens and CVS, will grant a small amount of your medication until your things are located. However, if you refill prescriptions at a smaller drug store, you'll have a difficult time getting the problem sorted. Either way, it will be a lot of work.

2. 1-3 outfits and undergarments. The size of your bag and climate of your location will determine how many articles of clothing you will be able to pack. Focus mainly on your "unmentionables" as wearing the same underclothing day after day will make you miserable.

3. Toiletries- this is counter-intuitive. Most people automatically grab toothbrushes, along with other necessities, and put them in their bag. If you don't have much room, however, they take up unneeded space. Almost every hotel and resort has backup toothbrushes, toothpaste and small combs available to their guests specifically for these types of situations. Plus their rooms are stocked with soap and shampoo/conditioner. If you're stranded in an airport due to bad weather many stores throughout the airport will sell these items. I'd base that decision on the amount of room you have. If you don't have much room, that extra pair of socks is more important!

4. Ladies, let's talk cosmetics. Though they aren't as essential as toiletries, they come in at a close second. If you use an array of make-up, split them into two categories- essentials and bonus. Why these over the general toiletries? Price. Cosmetics are not cheap; if you'd rather spend your money on other items while you're out of town, use a tiny bit of room to save your cash.

5. Put all of your valuables in your carry-on. Even more prudent, do not take any or very few of these treasured items.

Island attractions in San Francisco http://www.articletrader.com/travel/vacations/island-attractions-in-san-francisco.html http://www.articletrader.com/travel/vacations/island-attractions-in-san-francisco.html Wed, 04 Mar 2009 00:09:25 -0600
Many of the islands that are present in San Francisco bay are set aside as parks and refuges. One of the most popular islands is the Angel Island which is a state park accessible by the ferry from several locations around the bay, and the most beautiful national park called as Alcatraz. The visitors to these islands can visit all throughout the year; however the peak time for the visitors is the summer season. Other than this there are number of wildlife refuges which includes the East, west Marin islands, Brooks Island and the Bair Island. But on the other hand the Brook Island is considered as an important part of the Eastern bay regional districts and it is home for many migrated birds, wetlands and wetlands and the walking paths. The exclusive park for the wildlife refuge in Southern bay is the Bair Island; this park is considered as one of the most important part of the bay area ecology.

There are different kinds of the islands that you can find on the bay of San Francisco; few of them have the beautiful rocky outcroppings. The islands with the glorified rocky look are the Red rock island which is present in the western side of Richmond Bridge, along with the Eastern and the Western sisters called as the Ballena Bay Island which is situated next to Alameda and the Pat rock. Red rock is one of the few privately owned islands in the bay of San Francisco. However the fact of the development always remains a potential challenge as the bay lies in almost three countries so this is a challenge that has to be catered to.

I have mentioned about the inhabited island one of them is the Coast Guard Island which is made usage only for military purposes. The other inhabited parks that are open to the public are the Yerba Buena Island that lies in the middle of the San Francisco Bridge.

Austin and the surrounding area has many wonderful, family oriented vacations spots. Zilker Park is one of them. The park is located at 2100 Barton Springs Road and is in the heart of Austin. The park has many things to enjoy. The Botanical Gardens in Barton Hills is a great place to start. The garden has many varieties of flowers and ponds. They have also recreated a dinosaur habitat. The park also offers plenty of slides, swings and even its very own miniature train, The Zilker Zephyr. It winds through the park taking its riders through the 30 acre park. The park also offers a natural spring to swim in. Barton Springs is a wonderful place to cool off on a hot summer's day.

Another place to visit in the Austin area is Lady Bird Johnson Wildlife Center. The center is located at 4801 La Crosse Ave. in Austin.

The center has 16 unique gardens to visit. Anyone who loves the outdoors and wild flowers will find something they love at Lady Bird Wild flower Center. Each garden is themed and show case native flowers.

If you have smaller children, then The Austin Children's Museum is the place to visit. With over 12,500 square feet of gallery space there is plenty of room to explore. The museum is a hands on learning place, where even the young at heart can still learn.

The Children's Museum is located at 201 Colorado Street in down town Austin. Kids and adults can learn things like where milk comes from, or be a rock star on stage in the music gallery. With so many things to do and see, this will keep the family busy for hours!

Want something a little more luxurious and relaxing? Why not take the short drive out to Bastrop to the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa?

This luscious resort is settled in the lost pines of Bastrop. There are so many things for every member of the family to enjoy. If golfing is your game, then the Lost Pines Resort is the place to be. The resort has its own 18 hole golf course.

If you are adventurous, then take part in a white water rafting trip down the Colorado River. The resort will make all the arrangements. It's sure to be exciting.

If you're not into white water rafting, how about visiting the resorts very own water park, which include a two story water slide, a pool, and a lazy river if you just want to float on a inner tube and relax.

After a long day of rafting, why not relax in the resorts world class spa. Lay back and enjoy all the amenities a spa has to offer.

Don't forget to enjoy many of the restaurants the resort has to offer. When the day is done, head back into your Lost Pines Resort rooms. They are luxurious and relaxing.

Vacationing has never been easier or closer. Instead of driving across country, just try your own back yard, Austin, Texas!

Cheap Ski Vacations http://www.articletrader.com/travel/vacations/cheap-ski-vacations.html http://www.articletrader.com/travel/vacations/cheap-ski-vacations.html Thu, 09 Apr 2009 14:00:08 -0500 Cheap Ski Vacations often still offer you beautiful scenery, warm and quiet lodging and great ski slopes and classes, you just may have to do a little research to find these great deals. If you learn some of the following tips, you and your family will be well on your way to the perfect ski vacation!

As with most deals in life, the best way to find yourself a quality ski vacation on a budget is sufficient planning. Although the internet will provide you with a wealth of options for finding great deals, you do have to be careful and make sure all of the deals are legit. The best advice for finding the perfect deal is to become friendly with a good travel agent. Ask your friends and co-workers if they have any reputable recommendations for you. Make sure to treat your travel agent well. Send your travel agents cards and small gifts on holidays and be sure to send a thank you when they go above and beyond. Travel agents find out about great packages and deals right when they become available and they also have access to the deals that aren’t available directly to the general public. Although you may have only thought to use a travel agent for Cheap Disney Vacation Packages or booking cruises in the past, they can also be your best connection to deals on ski packages too!

Another way to save money on your ski vacation is to build a relationship with the desk staff at the resort you usually stay at. Like travel agents, the desk staff will know about deals that the resort has before the general public and will be able to give you tips on how to take advantage of these great deals. The more you stay at one resort, the more they will be likely to give you advanced notice on upcoming specials and events. They may even be able to give you access to a frequent traveler’s discount club if one is offered at the resort. If you and your family frequent the slopes, then this may be a great option for you to save money in the long run.

If you are traveling to the slopes with a large family and don’t think that a good travel agent or frequent traveler discount will save you enough money to make your vacation a reality, then you may want to consider planning your trip for a ski resort that isn’t in one of the most popular locations like Colorado or the Alps which will cost you a lot more. One place that has fantastic ski slopes with all the amenities but without the crazy cost is Michigan. You may not have realized this, but Michigan is quickly becoming one of the most popular, family friendly places to ski without the high cost. Michigan offers award winning service and more than 40 different ski resorts for every type of skier from the beginner to the champion skier. They also cater to families and offer many programs for children ages three and up, so no one will miss out on the fun.

Planning the perfect ski vacation doesn’t have to cost you a fortune! Although ski resorts have a bad reputation for costing an arm and a leg to enjoy, there are many methods you can utilize that will save you enough money to make this dream vacation possible. Before you give up on this dream, look into great travel agents, discount clubs and less expensive ski resorts and see if they don’t help you hit the slopes in no time!

Why decide to stay in a Boutique Hotel when travelling? http://www.articletrader.com/travel/vacations/why-decide-to-stay-in-a-boutique-hotel-when-travelling.html http://www.articletrader.com/travel/vacations/why-decide-to-stay-in-a-boutique-hotel-when-travelling.html Wed, 09 May 2007 00:00:00 -0500
As a result of these services and entertainment facilities offered by hotels, many people use hotels as an imperative influence on the type of holiday they choose to take. Often hotels leave guests feeling like they have enjoyed a little luxury away from home. Many guests visit hotels and seek this luxury along with an adventurous and exciting holiday, or perhaps they require certain comforts and services while on business trips. The cost and quality of the hotel is usually indicative of the range of services available to guests. Today there are many hotels, and tourism has increased worldwide - this has led to standards of hotels, and similar establishments, improving considerably. Now guests can compare hotels using a rating system with one to five stars.

There are many different hotel types for guests to choose from, depending on their type of holiday or visit. A Motel is generally aimed at motorists. This type of hotel is located on or near to a good road network, so that the guest does not need to deal with town traffic. These motels provide a quick access for guests to the outside world and their parked cars. Guests staying at motels need not enter through a reception area and the general layout of the motel is built around the car park area. Often motels are suited to those business people who need fast, easy access to their hotel room and the convenience of coming and going at will. Motels are also well priced, where if the traveller is looking to save money on accommodation expenses they can find motels well suited to their needs.

The word hotel is derived from the French word, Hôtel, which refers to a French version of a townhouse or a building seeing frequent visitors. A Boutique hotel differentiates itself from larger chain or branded hotels by providing an exceptional and personalised level of services, accommodation and facilities. Boutique hotels are usually luxurious or quirky hotel environments. These hotels are furnished in a themed, stylish manner. The Boutique hotel is generally smaller than mainstream hotels and offers luxuries such as telephone and wi-fi Internet connections, mini bars and satellite TV. With Boutique hotels, guests can expect to be attended by 24 hour hotel staff and other small personalized and often character services.

These hotels are often not directed by seasonal changes; the guests are often corporate travellers and discerning travellers who place a very high importance on privacy and luxury along with personalised service. Often travellers staying at Boutique hotels leave with a relaxed and satisfied feeling that created an enriching back-drop to an otherwise wonderful holiday, adventure or work commitment.

There are many other types of hotels, namely famous hotels that sit in the subconscious of many of the population due to media hype or other influences. These hotels are often desired destinations for many curious travellers. To name a few: The Ritz in London, Hotel Chelsea in New York, Beverly Hills Hotel, Hotel Bel-Air, and more.

Then there are hotels that are unusual either in appearance or location. These hotels are wonderful for those travellers interested in a new and unique experience. For example, Ice hotels, Snow hotels, Tree House hotels, Underwater hotels, and more.

Certainly there are many hotels for the traveller to choose from. From the motel to the Boutique hotel, you are assured of finding the accommodation to suit your style, holiday and purpose of visit.

Preparing For A Camping Trip http://www.articletrader.com/travel/vacations/preparing-for-a-camping-trip.html http://www.articletrader.com/travel/vacations/preparing-for-a-camping-trip.html Sat, 09 Jun 2007 00:00:00 -0500 by Wes Fessler

Camping can be a wonderful experience away from it all, or a miserable confrontation with nature. When you ask people what they think about camping, you are likely to hear one of two answers—either they love it, or they hate it. It doesn’t take long to form an opinion about an experience in nature, so it is important to be adequately prepared ahead of time.

For those who are new to camping, a few simple tips can make a big difference. An enjoyable experience depends largely on the preparation made for the trip. The amount and kinds of supplies that are needed to be comfortable will vary depending on individual needs. The important thing is to understand what your personal needs are and to plan accordingly for the supplies and equipment you will need.

Planning Dos and Don’ts

Dos
Do - Do research on your desired camping area and nearby attractions.

Do - Get driving directions to the campground by using an online map service.

Do - Call the campground to get information about campsites, facilities, and activities available.

Do - Reserve your campsite early.

Do - Plan out the meals you will have for the entire trip.

Do - Prepare a checklist of all supplies, equipment, and food items needed for the trip.

Do – Organize your supplies and food with large plastic containers.

Don’ts
Don’t – Decide on Friday night that you want to go camping on Saturday morning.

Don’t – Forget to bring all your maps, information, and any proof of your campsite reservation.

Don’t – Think you will remember all of your camping supplies without using a checklist.

[Planning] One of the most important aspects of a successful camping trip is planning. Planning a camping trip is not difficult, but it should not be neglected. A systematic approach to planning can help to assure that you will get the campsite you want, and that you will have everything you need for a fun time.

Plan as many activities as you can. Look for hiking trails, streams, and waterfalls that may be identified from your maps and information. Bring games and sporting activities that your children enjoy. If time permits, also consider sightseeing opportunities that are nearby.

Be sure to get good maps and information about your campsite. Get driving directions from an online map service and have another map available when possible. Call your specific campground for maps and specific information about the geography of the area.

Reservations - Make your reservations early. For some campgrounds, it is necessary to reserve your campsite six months or more in advance. Reservations and information for most state and federal campgrounds can be found on the following websites: http://www.reserveamerica.com
http://www.recreation.gov.

Meals - Consult with everyone you will be camping with about what types of meals are desired. Try to come to agreement on meals, but try to allow everyone to have something they specifically enjoy. Make a schedule of all of the meals and a checklist of the ingredients required for them. Use the checklist to purchase the meals and to be sure that all of the items are loaded before heading off on the trip.

Organization - Being organized makes camping much more pleasant. It is difficult to have fun while you are constantly fumbling through disorganized piles of supplies and equipment. Use large plastic containers to organize your supplies. These can also be used to store the items at home.

Checklist of Supplies - A checklist of all the supplies you need for camping can make the difference between a great camping trip and a mediocre one. Make your list as thorough and complete as possible. The checklist helps you to make certain that all of your supplies go with you on your trip. It also helps you to replenish the supplies that have been used up on your trip when you return. If you don’t use a checklist, you will likely find yourself missing items that would make your trip better.

When adequate preparation is made in advance, camping can be a great experience. Preparing for a camping trip is not difficult, but its importance should not be underestimated. By taking the time to get organized, you can assure an enjoyable trip for everyone.

Has Banbury achieved more with being a Fair Trade Town http://www.articletrader.com/travel/vacations/has-banbury-achieved-more-with-being-a-fair-trade-town.html http://www.articletrader.com/travel/vacations/has-banbury-achieved-more-with-being-a-fair-trade-town.html Thu, 18 Dec 2008 09:20:16 -0600
To be awarded this accolade by The Fairtrade Foundation when a Banbury had to achieve five goals. These are shown below. I have referenced this information from the Banbury county council.

The Town Council passes a Resolution supporting Fairtrade and agrees to serve Fairtrade tea and coffee at its meetings and offices and canteens.

A range of at least two Fairtrade products are readily available in the areas shops and local cafes/catering establishments

Fairtrade products are used by an appropriate number of local workplaces and community organisations. .

Attract media coverage and popular support for the campaign. Coverage by Banbury Guardian, Banbury Cake, and BBC Radio Oxford achieved 19 January 2005.

A local Steering Group, one member of which is a Town Councillor, is convened to ensure progress and continued commitment to the campaign.

Being a Fair trade town is not just about PR and hype there are fair wider social and economic benefits to being Fair trade town. This applies is both developing countries and to Banbury.

An often overlooked consideration is the public attitude is a town population can either be positive or negative towards the future. The knock on effect is would people recommend others to live in Banbury. A positive dimension such Fair Trade can spread into a positive hype in the housing market people want to live and work in a town that provides its residents with a good feel feeling.

This is one of the reasons why the Banbury is experiencing a property letting high as the town grows in momentum with the good will of its population. This is not too say that creating a positive hype is all down to Banbury being a Fair Trade Town. However, I would consider this a small part of why people want to move to Banbury.

Landlords are also seeing opportunities in Banbury for Renting property with the town being A commuter town and good local transport links to London & Birmingham means landlords are always looking to letting agents in Banbury for available property to rent in the Town.

Benefits of Flying a Private Charter Jet http://www.articletrader.com/travel/vacations/benefits-of-flying-a-private-charter-jet.html http://www.articletrader.com/travel/vacations/benefits-of-flying-a-private-charter-jet.html Mon, 11 Aug 2008 00:00:00 -0500
The options that are made available when it comes to customizing a private flight are endless. Perhaps you are a band director trying to take your group to a foreign country for a concert series and cultural experience. Perhaps you want a break from the stress of a commercial airline. A private charter flight is the perfect option. Giving the charter company all of the information on your needs for luggage and passengers allows them to choose the type of plane that will work for your group. Frequently, the air charter company can arrange post-flight transportation. Indeed, it could be arranged to have a charter bus pick up your group on the runway. Your group can get off the plane and right onto the bus. No more hassle with getting a large group through the airport together and meeting up with rental vehicles. You can even drive right up to the plane when you first board the flight, and load the luggage directly onboard. All necessary security measures are still taken, but it is only your group going through security. This speeds up the whole process and makes going through security much easier. It will be only your group present on the flight and any needs that your group has for the flight can be met, including catering. This ability to choose what will work best for your group is just one of the benefits of using a private chartered flight.

Private flights are extremely efficient when it comes to time management. You no longer have to arrive at the airport hours ahead of time to go through security and check luggage. A chartered flight also eliminates the time-consuming landing and baggage claim process. This time efficiency combines with the privacy of private charter jets to make them perfect for business related travel. Perhaps you are entertaining a client and need to travel to a different part of the country to show off a feature of your company. You could take a commercial flight and deal with security, lack of privacy to really get down to business on the flight and the logistics of post-flight transportation. Have the freedom to present all aspects of your company that you would want to present. The privacy of the cabin allows free discussion and presentation of any subject that needs to be dealt with. This strategy of efficiency and care is perfect for business travelers, and any others looking to save time on their trip.

Relaxation and financial efficiency make up for two more benefits of flying on a private charter jet. Imagine for a moment trying to travel with a toddler or infant. Even young children can pose similar problems. Tantrums, inability to sit still, loud horseplay and other assorted behavior is commonplace when children are cooped up on a flight. Trying to get these children safely through airport security and crowds can be a nightmare as well. However, on a private jet, your children can be free to be kids, and you can relax and enjoy your vacation. If the flight needs to be held up for half an hour so that you can get your child to relax and not be afraid of flying that is not a problem. Anybody trying to travel with a group that has lots of luggage to check, or large numbers of members can avoid the stress of commercial flights by going private. Overall, there is a great deal of freedom that creates a relaxing atmosphere for private flights. And the financial efficiency can make the trip even more relaxing. Most private flights charge by the hour, not by passenger. Therefore, if you are travelling in a group, your trip can actually be less expensive then a commercial flight. If you live the kind of lifestyle in which time is money, then private flights are perfect for you. The process of taking a private charter jet is so time efficient that it becomes very financially efficient as well.

Making your next flight on a private charter jet can make your trip go from routine to sublime. This is achieved through the ability to relax, flexibility, and efficiency offered by private flights.

Sustainable Tourism Management http://www.articletrader.com/travel/vacations/sustainable-tourism-management.html http://www.articletrader.com/travel/vacations/sustainable-tourism-management.html Sun, 05 Apr 2009 07:54:45 -0500
Sustainable Resources For Tourism

In many countries, tourism service providers who are committed to the design and development of exciting new experiences in sustainable tourism are gaining high popularity. For example, the largest growth sectors in hotel and tourism business now are sustainable accommodations that lessen the release of carbon load.

Sustainable tourism is to meet the needs of tourists while maintaining cultural integrity, essential ecological processes, and biological diversity and life support systems. Sustainable tourism management of natural and environmental resources will ensure that all economic, social and aesthetic needs are fulfilled, while protecting and enhancing the opportunity for the future.

Sustainable Cultural Tourism

Sustainable cultural tourism ensures that both travelers and locals will benefit from the awareness and interaction of environmental, cultural, conservational and economic issues. Residents learn that their customs may be of interest to foreigners, and travelers obtain more in depth knowledge on the destination.

This new way of doing tourism is adding tangible value to the common structure of tourism services. The environmentally friendliness of tourism products is indeed building a competitive new market. Actually, consumers have a greater level of consciousness about the components in tourism services that do make a positive difference in the destination they visit.

Certification On Sustainable Tourism

Certification programs provide guidance for responsible business practices in sustainable tourism. It can also be used as a tool to communicate sustainable tourism commitment in the marketplace. In Africa, certifications in sustainable tourism also provide added incentives to preserving land for wildlife as land area which are subject to habitat encroachment are certified and preserved.

It has about 429 homes and the list of amenities doesn't seem to end.
