MCAT is the medical school entrance exam and MCAT Biology is one of the most important subtests.

Here are four secrets on how to crack MCAT Biology and score high in this massive exam.

Secret No.1 - Comprehensive Re-Study. To start on your journey in preparing MCAT, the first thing you are facing is to select which program to go with. Most of the traditional test-prep books and programs are paper-based with old contents dated back 10 years ago. The high-level outline or overview is not going to cut with MCAT. You need deep study, topic-by-topic re-study of all the requirements by AAMC.

Secret No. 2 - Visual Learning. Biology is a visual science which must be learned visually, better yet, rich-media animation and visualization, coupling with expert narration. Forget about the old classroom video recording type test-prep or talking head. Don't even bother with weighty text, you are going to give up less than half-way. Prepare your MCAT biology visually via rich-media.

Secret No. 3 - Learn it on-screen. If this is a paper-based exam, prepare it paper-based. MCAT is a computer-based test. You will have to take the exam on-screen. Start getting used to read and make decision on-screen now. The best way is to prepare your MCAT Biology on-screen too. You then have the mental readiness for the grueling long-hour ahead of you for the actual MCAT test.

Secret No. 4 - Immerse yourself. Learning biology is like learning a new language in a new culture. You need to immerse yourself into the world of biological molecules, cell and human systems. Get on with MCAT Biology using fast-track learning system, stop crawling on textbooks.

Today, learners are much more web savvy and visual oriented.
Taxes are one of the major contributors to national treasury of any country. These in turn are utilized to carry out all the developmental activities for the benefit of the general masses. Individual taxes and corporate taxes are forms of direct taxes levied by the government. Every country has its financial head in the form of Finance Minister who frames laws concerning the nation's budget. Each year, these laws are revised to meet the needs of current financial trends. It is mandatory for both individuals and business houses to file their annual tax returns. While it may be quite simple in case of individual returns, it can be quite complex when it comes to accounting for large scale business enterprises. Besides these innumerable financial entries, there is an exhaustive list of legal formalities which have to be complied with. With so many aspects to be taken into account for the calculation of tax, chances of errors are quite high. This is why most business units hire or employ the services of tax return specialists to ensure that errors are avoided. Individuals and small business units, household ventures who do not wish to spend large amount of money in hiring professional tax consultants can refer to tax planning books the fill up their tax returns on the basis of information provided in them. Since tax rates are subject to revision every subsequent year, tax planning may vary from one financial period to another.
Tax planning books are useful business books which specially cater to the needs of calculation of corporate taxes. Small business tax planning is all the more crucial for small businessman, as they cannot afford to take huge risks and push the firm into financial crisis. Thus, they too can refer to tax planning books besides small business books to have a better insight into tax exemptions and rebates to save some amount of their funds. Business books related to tax planning are in huge demand these days as every organization employs information contained in them to avoid getting into legal muck. Be it registration of trademark or patents or filing of taxes; innumerable firms have fallen prey to legal proceedings.
Tax planning are specifically published business books to comply with tax regulatory authorities governing that country. Any discrepancy in this regard may subject the defaulting company to unnecessary legal proceedings. Small business tax planning is essential if the small business owners intend to make their business a profitable venture. Tax planning books give entrepreneurs an opportunity to compute their firms' annual tax returns using easy step wise guidelines.
What is Bioinformatics

Bioinformatics is a discipline which combines computer technology and biology to handle the immense biological data, mainly genetic information which has been produced over the years. It involves creating, managing and updating the databases which are warehouse of the biological information and the development of the tools used for analyzing and using this data. The information so gathered is then used for the discovery and development of gene based drugs. In 1978, the term bioinformatics was given by Paulien Hogeweg.
Bioinformatics provides a platform for two very divergent disciplines to come together and complement each other for a common purpose of locating, deciphering and studying the genome as a whole and not in bits and pieces. The scientists from the two fields who are a part of this discipline don’t always understand the other’s views and scope but they share the above stated common goal. In fact, by the application of the various technologies for gathering and analyzing data, they are deciphering more genetic codes than they had ever hoped for.
When the first genetic code was cracked, it paved the path for the mindboggling boom in molecular biology. However the work involved was very slow and cumbersome as the scientists could work on only one particular part or piece of the genetic code at a time and not the entire genome. Therefore, even after so much of work, they couldn’t get the entire picture. However with the help of bioinformatics, they came up with software which were very specific in what they did and could be used to do the same work quickly and with great accuracy. Bioinformatics combines the deeper understanding of various biological processes with specific programs which have excellent data mining and retrieval qualities.
A bioinformatician can’t be a person belonging to only one either the field of biology or computer technology, he needs have a fair amount of knowledge about both the disciplines. Only then will he be able to understand how to apply these programs and software to obtain and decipher the biological data he requires and what it means. If he is working on a hypothesis about the presence of a particular genetic pattern in a genome, he needs to have an understanding of the genome sequences and patterns. So that when he enter a sequence into the program and searches for a particular pattern or trend, he can retrieve it and see if it is present somewhere else in the same genome or another genome to find relativity.
For a person who is a computer whiz and can retrieve data form anywhere, to be successful in the bioinformatics field, he will have to have an understanding of molecular biology and chemistry. This will help him relate to his other coworkers in the same field. The bases of bioinformatics are the genes and the codes that they carry. A deeper insight of the DNA, RNA and the translation of the genetic code into proteins is the focal area of most the work and research in this discipline.

--
Gene Byte is an education resource to learn bioinformatics and know what is bioinformatics.
The J.J. Pickle Research Campus in Austin

There is a large research facility in northwest Austin that is part of the University of Texas System called the J.J. Pickle Research Campus, and the site is nine miles north of the main U.T. campus just north of the Domain. This facility is on the cutting edge of new technology but not very well-known to most residents of Austin. The site of the PRC was originally a magnesium plant during World War II and was owned by the U.S. government until two U.T. professors sought to lease and eventually buy the site for the University. An agreement was reached in 1946 and research projects began at that time.

Later, in 1949, the University purchased the site with the help of then-Congressman Lyndon Johnson from the federal government and in 1953 it was named the Balcones Research Center, named for the Balcones
Escarpment which runs through northwest Austin. The original site was 402 acres and the western boundary was U.S. 183, with other borders being Burnet Road and Braker Lane to the east and north, respectively. The southern edge of the facility was bordered by the land that was later developed and named the Domain, and is now a huge shopping and entertainment complex.

The MoPac railroad tracks and Loop 1 run directly through the campus, and U.T. shuttle buses transport students and faculty to and from the center and the main campus, but for the most part, the center is not open to the public. In 1971, the University received full title to the facility and in 1974, expanded the site to its current size of 475 acres, after purchasing more land. The facility continued its research into the areas of defense, nuclear physics and space flight, all areas to which the facility has brought important contributions by its research and development.

In 1994, the center was renamed the J.J. Pickle Research Center after then Congressman J.J. "Jake" Pickle, who died in 2005, and the facility continued to flourish. The Campus has over 100 buildings today, but no dormitories and very few classrooms; it is primarily a closed research campus due to the sensitivity of some of the areas being researched.

In 2003, the U.T. System Board of Regents made an agreement with the Simon Property Group for around $130 million to lease unused portions of the campus for retail development, and construction on the Domain began at that time, and an Arbor Walk was begun in 2005, with retail stores opening in the fall of 2006. Much of the campus is still undeveloped, and the site is very scenic with its proliferation of wildflowers, especially bluebonnets, which dot the fields and meadows surrounding the facility.

The campus has also been utilized for industrial research, and Texas Nuclear, the Radian Corporation, and Tracor have all been instrumental in expanding the private sector's use of the campus in the areas of nuclear physics, chemistry, paleontology, zoology, botany, and atmospheric science, among other disciplines. The center has been home to over seventy different laboratories over the years, and encourages chemists, physicists, and engineers to conduct interdisciplinary research as well as having been a training site for these disciplines, among others.

In addition to the above mentioned facilities, the campus is home to the Commons Conference Center, which is a full service conference facility managed by the PRC. The Commons Cafe is the centerpiece, with gourmet meals prepared and served in dining rooms and private conference rooms, to the delight of visiting academics and faculty members alike. Many governmental agencies use the facilities along with educational
agencies and conferences, with first rate facilities and technology in very discreet and private, yet elegant, surroundings.

The Pickle Research Campus is just one more outstanding facility in Austin's educational and business environment, so if you ever have the opportunity to visit the campus or the Commons Center, it is definitely worth your time, and you just might enjoy fine cuisine while appreciating all that the campus has to offer!

--
Ki developed a clearinghouse website of Austin Texas real estate. On the site, buyers can search Austin MLS listings. His site also has a blog that covers news and updates in the Austin real estate market.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

xMAP® is commonly called as “Bead Array Technology”. It is a novel concept developed to eliminate the limitations of planar microarrays during array preparation. Planar microarrays employs glass slides as solid substrate which makes it technically challenging and laborious. With the advent of this new high throughput platform, there is a gradual shift from the microarray format of glass slides to the efficacious bead format. Being more flexible in array preparation the bead format is easy to use, cost effective and offers faster hybridization solution kinetics along with statistical superiority as compared to the conventional technique. In other assay chemistries utilizing a solid phase, the reaction kinetics can be adversely affected by immobilization of a reactant on a solid surface. The effects are less severe for a microsphere in suspension than for a flat array as the diffusion rate of the immobilized capture probe can be slower and the effective concentration is reduced as compared to free DNA in solution

In broader terms the integration of three prominent technologies: PCR, microarray and fluorimeter into a small bead makes xMAP® both sensitive and specific.

xMAP® or the suspension array technology involves the use of polystyrene microspheres or beads. These beads contains a unique mixture of internal fluorescent dyes or spectral addresses. In direct hybridization assays, DNA probes are attached to these beads. The probes bind to the target DNA molecule that are in turn labeled with distinct fluorescent dyes (reporter dye). To carry on the analysis of different probes simultaneously, bead sets coupled to the probes are thoroughly mixed in a microtiter plate of 100 wells.

In solution based microsphere capture assay format, microspheres are attached to a short stretch of unique sequence called as FlexMAP antitag which captures the complementary tags attached to the custom oligos. In allele specific primer extension assay, tags are attached to allele specific primers which are extended in the presence of biotinylated dNTPs. Tagged ASPE products are then detected by hybridization to antitag sequences attached to microspheres.
A two laser flow cytometer is employed for quantification and separation of the beads from the hybridized targets. In direct hybridization assays, the presence of the probe on the bead is detected by one laser which reads the unique internal color of the bead whereas the fluorescent signal emitted by the reporter dye on the labeled target DNA is detected by the second laser. For ASPE assays, the bead having antitag is detected by one laser and fluorescence emitted by tagged ASPE product is detected by the second laser.

Thus different microsphere sets can be combined within an assay enabling multiplexing of up to 100 samples in a single reaction. This greatly reduces the amount of the test sample utilized.

xMAP® is highly desirable for bio-pharmaceutical studies which involves drug discovery researches and diagnostic applications. It is capable of providing high content data that enables high throughput nucleic acid detection. Its a promising technology that will suffice the present as well as the future requirements of the molecular research laboratory in the areas of SNP genotyping, gene expression profiling, HLA DNA typing and microbial detection.

This novel technology is now supported in-silico. PREMIER Biosoft has included support for designing oligos for multiplex analysis on suspension array systems in one of their tools called PrimerPlex. The tool is supported on both Windows and Mac. It designs specific capture probes for direct hybridization assays and primer pairs for Allele Specific PCR Extension (ASPE) assays. These assays are widely used for high throughput SNP applications such as genotyping, pathogen detection, strain typing, and haplotyping.

--
Article written by Neil Watson from PREMIER Biosoft which authored the tool that designs oligos for luminex multiplex analysis on suspension array systems.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

While auctions might be a convenient and cheaper way of getting a horse, it might not be safest. Careful consideration should be taken before participating since the horse, at the beginning, might seem like a bargain, but, after some time, might become more than what buyer bargained for.

One of the things that buyers should be aware of is that some horses are drugged before the auction to make them appear calm during a bidding war. Unfortunately, once the effects subside, the horse may become very difficult to manage and may also become a danger. Another reason that sellers will drug horses is to mask its health issue, and real medication to treat the problem might be costly. However, a horse can be examined by a veterinarian for drugs, prior to the actual purchase. Buyers should also note that horses may not be as well ‘broken’ as they appear to be. Though the horse to be auctioned might appear well-mannered in the middle of the ruckus and noise found in auction houses, it only remains quiet as it is familiar with its handler. And so, when introduced to its new owners it might need a lot more training from a professional to turn it into a horse that will interact properly with a rider. Also, horses may have behavioral problems that the sellers will not disclose, such as cribbing, weaving, stall walking, refusing to load on a trailer, biting, kicking, etc. Lastly, buyers of auctioned horses are seldom given the chance to try before they buy the horse, and unfortunately, ethics that oversee private sales and auctions are completely different, so be careful and critical before bidding.

--
Careful consideration should be taken before participating since the horse, at the beginning, might seem like a bargain, but, after some time, might become more than what buyer bargained for.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Stem Cell Markets Report ( http://www.bharatbook.com/Market-Research-Reports/Stem-Cell-Markets-.html ) elucidates about market information and research programs in the stem cell space.

A stem cell is an extraordinary type of cell that has the ability to self-renew for long periods of time and to differentiate into specialized cells under appropriate physiological or experimental conditions. Traditionally, stem cells have been classified as either embryonic, adult (tissue-specific or cord blood) stem cells. Recent understanding of stem cell biology may provide new approaches for the treatment of a number of diseases as well as tissue/organ injuries, including cardiovascular disease, neurological disease, musculoskeletal disease, diabetes and hematopoietic disorders.

Stem cell fate is determined by both intrinsic regulators and the extra-cellular environment (niche), and their expansion and differentiation ex vivo are generally controlled by growing them in a specific configuration (monolayer or three-dimensional culture). This process, which is vital to enable stem cells to be used for therapeutic purposes, is called differentiation.
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are multipotent stem cells that can differentiate into a variety of cell types, including osteoblasts, chondrocytes, myocytes, adipocytes, beta-pancreatic islets cells, and potentially, neuronal cells.
MSCs are of intense therapeutic interest because they represent a population of cells with the potential treat a wide range of acute and degenerative diseases. MSCs are advantageous over other stem cells types for several reasons. First, they avoid the ethical issues that surround embryonic stem cell research. Second, repeated studies have found that human MSCs are immuno-privileged, and therefore, represent an advantageous cell type for allogenic transplantation, reducing the risks of rejection and complications of transplantation. Recently, there have also been significant advances in the use of autologous MSCs to regenerate human tissues, including cartilage and meniscus, tendons, and bone fractures.
This market research report focuses on recent advances in MSC research applications, explores research priorities by market segment, highlights individual labs and end-users of MSC research products, explores the competitive environment for MSC research products, and provides 5-year growth and trend analysis.
