<description><![CDATA[ Food tastes better when it is properly seasoned to bring out all the flavors. The seasoning of choice was always Salt which we now know is not the best thing to have in excess and healthy eating guidelines suggest that we avoid adding it. So how do we replace that as a flavor enhancer?<br /><br />Salt in small quantities is necessary for life, you would soon be aware of health problems if you had no salt in your diet, the issue is with the huge quantities that are added to many processed foods to mask poor ingredients. There are many alternatives that can be used to give piquancy to your food. Fresh or dried herbs and spices are the obvious alternatives though I have to say, from a personal point of view, many foods taste just as good without any salt or seasoning. You get the full, natural flavor. Vegetables are one of the foods that can suffer from being salted in cooking. When you have lovely fresh Purple Sprouting Broccoli for example, or new Peas the salt masks the delicate flavors completely and turns them into something quite ordinary.<br /><br />Probably the most common alternative for Salt is Pepper, it is certainly the one I use a great deal. I use freshly ground mixed peppercorns which add a richness and depth of flavor to savory dishes. I do use white pepper with fish and chicken dishes sometimes from a presentation point of view but more often than not, I don’t worry about it! The next favorite for me is Garlic. It has huge health benefits in its own right and is invaluable in the kitchen. If I am roasting anything I throw a few cloves of unpeeled garlic into the tin and it gives a very delicate flavor. The garlic is very sweet to eat as an added bonus. Crushed or chopped in soups, stews, stir fries, in fact almost anything, sensibly used garlic enhances the flavors. If you are not very keen on it try just rubbing a cut clove of garlic across the surface of the pan before you start cooking. It won’t taste of garlic I promise but it will draw out the flavor of the food.<br /><br />Bay leaves bring a soft warm flavor, especially to creamy sauces and egg dishes. It is very easy to grow and is available all year round so you can just grab a couple of fresh leaves when you want them. Bruise them gently to bring out the full flavor and aroma. My Bay Tree is just outside the door so I can grab a handful without having to get wet in the rain. Another favorite for me is Parsley, again for sauces but equally delicious in savory dishes or as a garnish where it brings a unique flavor all it’s own. Coriander is also very popular of recent times and makes delicious soups when combined with quite ordinary ingredients like Carrots. Basil has a very similar relationship with Tomatoes and is a marriage made in heaven.<br /><br />I use a great of Nutmeg in cooking as well, particularly with fish and cheese dishes, freshly grated it is almost perfumed. Going for a completely different taste sensation English Mustard powder is also very useful to draw out cheese sauces and makes a Welsh Rarebit something very special indeed, particularly if you add a dash of Worcestershire Sauce. Cinnamon is useful spice with red meats, I prefer to use a Cinnamon stick and let in infuse in the sauce for a while rather than the ground spice.<br /><br />Rosemary is traditional accompaniment for Lamb but I find it very useful with chicken and fish dishes too, along with citrus fruits – the grated rind of lemons, limes and oranges can really lift a dish and cut through the richness that sometimes overpowers your taste buds. For more oriental dishes I like to use Ginger and Spring Onions (Scallions) or Chives which are a little more delicate.<br /><br />There are some low sodium alternatives to salt on the market and for most people these can be used quite safely. If you have a heart condition however, they are not advised because of potential issues with some medications, if in doubt you should check with your medical practitioner. <description><![CDATA[ Moving on after breakup... how do you do it? And is it possible to win back your ex? If keeping this relationship is what your truly want but you feel powerless, then you must be taught precisely what to do to win back your ex.<br />nImmediately end all behavior that comes across and needy or desperate. This includes arguing about the relationship, writing love letters, trying to convince your partner or ex, etc. You see, the more you pressure your ex, the more they pull back from you. This is totally typical, it's human nature.<br />nNow that you understand basic human nature, work with it... instead of fighting it! Giving your ex their space is what you need to do. You must cut off all contact for a period of time... 2-3 weeks or more.<br />nWhen you give them plenty of space, you're presenting that you're independent and strong... and you can live without them.. You are no longer chasing them... and that will usually trigger their interest once again. Why? Because just like it's human nature to pull back if you feel forced, the opposite is also true... a person inclines to be attracted towards somebody they think is not entirely obtainable.<br />nYour ex will see that you're no longer chasing them. It looks like you are moving on after breakup. This will usually causes a huge shift in their attitude towards you.<br />nBe sure to stay occupied during this time of no contact by engaging in lots of activities that you enjoy and are important to you. Get going on some of those goals you've been stalling on, work out, start a hobby or whatever... just make sure it's things that better your life. You will start to regain your inner strength plus your ex will see the positive changes. This is an important step if you are interested in moving on after breakup or if you're still interested in salvaging the relationship.<br />nThese positive changes along with your new attitude of "detachment" will naturally attract them to you. <description><![CDATA[ How Powerful are Pheromones? <br /><br />It depends on who you ask.<br /><br />If bees or ants-or any one of more than 1500 species of insects-could talk, they'd tell you that the chemical message of pheromones is absolutely irresistible. Insects do exactly what the scent signal tells them to, because, in insects, pheromones are the sole basis for many kinds of social behavior.<br /><br />For instance, worker bees are powerless against the pheromones of queen bees. Ants follow each other, single file, to food sources because they're following a chemical trail laid by another ant. Some flying insects-moths, beetles, and flies-use pheromones to keep other insects away when laying their eggs so their offspring have less competition for scarce resources. They can signal alarm among aphids, and honeybees use pheromones to incite their nest mates to attack intruders. Male moths attract females with pheromones. One researcher who spilled male moth pheromones on his clothing had to beat the female moths off with a stick, so to speak. <br /><br />Small amounts of pheromones can be extremely effective in insects. For instance, thirty molecules can trigger a response-in other cockroaches. And one female sawfly in a cage attracted more than 2,000 males a day. Insect pheromones are so powerful because insects lack other sensory input and because the behavior of insects isn't very complex. There are only so many ways to wiggle your antennae.<br /><br />In animals, pheromones also trigger a variety of social behaviors related to defense and alarm, foraging for food, nest creation, and reproduction. But, in animals and especially in mammals, communication occurs through a combination of chemical, visual, and auditory signals-which makes it more challenging to sort out the relative impact of each type. <br /><br />However, researchers agree that pheromones play the primary role in sexual behavior in all species. In all mammals, for instance, they cause changes in female hormones that affect pregnancy, the onset of puberty, the timing of female fertility cycles, and reproductive behavior. Humans have become quite skilled at manipulating animal pheromones, because pheromones make managing the reproduction of domestic animals easier. In pigs, cows, and sheep, they're used to speed up the timing of sexual maturity and synchronize fertility cycles, rendering commercial breeding programs more predictable and more profitable.<br /><br />In humans, communication between males and females is even more complicated. In addition to visual and auditory signals-your appearance and the sound of your voice-humans add verbal signals into the mix of messages that result in sexual attraction.<br /><br />Much of the inaccurate hype about the power of human male pheromones comes from equating them to insect pheromones: a sensory tractor beam that leaves women no choice but to be drawn inexorably toward you. <description><![CDATA[ For most students studying martial arts and self defense training, there is a critical, life-threatening mistake that they're making. This mistake is so important that, if not corrected, you could find yourself worse off in a self-defense situation than someone who <u>never</u> studied martial arts and self-defense at all.<br /><br />This critical mistake is part of what I call, the Karate-Myth. It, along with a host of other ""false-beliefs"" can not only render all of your hard work, study, and martial arts and self-defense training completely <u>useless</u>...<br /><br />...It can get you broken, maimed, or killed in a real-world attack from a criminal attacker who isn't going soft and slow like your training partners in your martial arts or self-defense class!<br /><br />And you know what?<br /><br />Its not just a mistake that students are making. This mistake is being made AND passed-on by so-called self-defense experts and martial arts black belts too!<br /><br />Let's get something very clear before I let you in on my little secret. And that something is this...<br /><br />...It doesn't matter_<br /><ul><li>how well you think you know a martial arts technique, or...<br /></li><li>how good you are at doing that self-defense move in class.</li></ul><br /><br />All that will matter when the rubber-meets-the-road and you're face-to-face (or worse) with a brutal attacker who wants you dead is...<br /><br />...CAN YOU DO IT THEN?!<br /><br />You must realize something right now, and make no mistake about it. You must understand that, unlike most people in your life - unlike your mom, significant other, or fellow martial arts or self-defense students...<br /><br />A real attacker:<br /><ul><li>doesn't care what color your belt is<br /></li><li>doesn't care how many techniques you know<br /></li><li>isn't impressed with the names of the people you've studied under<br /></li><li>isn't going to help you do your technique correctly like your friend in class does - and a ton of other things you might use to impress others with your skill and "knowledge."</li></ul><br /><br />He only cares about one thing and one thing only. And that one thing is crushing or beating you down and getting what he wants from you.<br /><br />That ""thing"" could be to:<br /><ul><li>win the argument you were having<br /></li><li>get your money<br /></li><li>get what you were protecting<br /></li><li>make a point or statement (as in the case of terrorism or workplace violence)<br /></li><li>make you suffer, or...<br /></li><li>take your life!</li></ul><br /><br />So what is this grand mistake? I think you have a pretty good idea by now, don't you?<br /><br />The mistake I'm talking about is wrongly believing that training in either the martial arts or a self-defense class without the knowledge, understanding, and experience of what a real self-defense situation is like...<br /><br />...will allow you to effectively defend yourself against a street punk with real knife, or a 280 pound drunk dock worker who has you in a bone-crushing bear-hug and squeezing the very life out of your lungs!<br /><br />Don't get me wrong. I'm not suggesting that you go get into a bunch of fights, or walk through the worst parts of town looking to get mugged so you can get real-life self-defense experience.<br /><br />But, you can at least make sure that the person you're training with - that you're learning self-defense from - HAS the experience and knowledge you <u>need</u>.<br /><br />You must find a teacher, mentor, or master with real-world experience or your training will end up being like the "blind-leading-the-blind!" If you don't know what you need, you have to find someone who does. And, if you don't have the experience, you MUST find a teacher who does.<br /><br />A street-fighting self-defense situation is not the time to find out that what you've been spending your hard-earned time, money, and effort on...<br /><br />Doesn't work!<br /><br />In a future article I'll be discussing how you can know whether the program you're in is worth anything or not - even if you don't have any real-world fight or self-defense experience. <description><![CDATA[ When you go on holiday it can be really hard to keep yourself cool and look great at the same time. Many women opt for a sun dress to do this but these can sometimes be too fussy and are difficult to put on and take off around the pool. One item of clothing that is really popular as cruisewear with women of all ages is a kaftan. <br />	<br />Unlike a sarong or a sun dress a kaftan is usually made out of much lighter material, which means that the wearer stays cooler for longer. There is also the added attraction that a kaftan is meant to be worn quite large, so there should be plenty of material to spare on it. This means that the woman who is wearing it will not feel as though she is in a garment that is too tight or restrictive. A kaftan looks very much like a dress which has sleeves and is made from very light and airy material. This makes them perfect for wearing in hot weather as they do not overheat the wearer or make them feel as though they have too much on.<br /><br />As a kaftan is so easy to put on and take off it is the ideal type of clothing to wear around the pool. You simply slip it on like a night dress and take it off in the same way. As they are made from light material they will also dry out quickly if they become wet. So there is no problem if you get splashed by someone in the pool.<br /><br />A kaftan can come with long or short sleeves and it is down to the individual to decide which style they prefer.
