<description><![CDATA[ To fully understand the answer to the question "what is stress management?" one should primarily take a closer look of what it deals with -stress.  Stress is an every day part of life, and life can't really be without stress.  Stress is how the body responds to what one feels when they are confronted with situations - it reacts as though you're in danger.  Hormones speed up, breathing is faster, and can give a person a "burst" of energy.  This stress response is called "fight-or-flight".<br /><br />Not every stress that a person feels is bad -some of it is normal and sometimes even useful.  It helps an individual react quickly or work hard that can do positive things when trying to achieve a goal or finish a task on time.  However, when stress lasts longer and happens often, it can result to bad consequences -back pain, headaches, trouble sleeping, or upset stomach.  These negative effects can weaken one's immune system that makes it difficult for the body to "fight-off" disease.<br /><br />When stress becomes overwhelming, this is where stress management comes in.  The proper management of stress will lessen, alleviate, and even eliminate stress.  So, what is stress management?  Stress management takes in techniques designed to equip an individual with efficient coping methods for handling stress.  These methods may vary for different individuals as they have to choose which one best works for them.<br /><br />What is stress management for workers?  Stress management for workers deals on how employees can reduce stress in their working environment as well as techniques on effective personal stress management to help eliminate their "stress triggers".  Most organizations these days have centered on the importance of giving their employees stress management trainings or seminars as these help the organization have better and productive employees.<br /><br />What is stress management for students?  Stress management for students tackles on how students can overcome the stress they encounter in their demanding "academic world".  Students are among the most stressed individuals and stress management techniques help them cope better with situations that may result to both physical and emotional problems.<br /><br />There are several other stress management areas including those that deal with individuals who go through critical incidents. Whether one likes it or not, every day activities and situations will in one way or another affect a person mentally or physically -the only difference would be, it being slight or overpowering.  <br /><br />It is only when "stress" becomes troubling and causes certain health problems that people start to do something about it.  This should not be the case; one can always do ways to prevent stress from affecting one's bodily functions -stress management is the answer.  Here are some stress management tips to better handle daily stress:  <br /><br />Identifying one's "stress triggers"<br />One of the significant stress management tips is identifying the situations or factors that create the stress -particularly those conditions that exceed one's ability to cope.  These factors however, are unique with every person, as individuals differ.  One's personality, life, and genes, can all influence the body's stress response.<br /><br />When one starts to experience stress, things that trigger stress can be identified and kept tracked with, through keeping a "stress journal" and making a list of one's time and energy demands weekly.  Then take the time to look at the records with the events that one may rank as "very stressful", and work on them.<br /><br />Improving One's Time Management<br />An effective management skill will help acknowledge objectives, set priorities, and lessen stress in their lives.  Some things that will help improve time management includes: creating realistic deadlines and expectations, and setting habitual progress reviews; organizing one's desk and preparing a list of tasks; all through the day check the list and work on them in priority order; use a planner; and reserve an uninterrupted spare time "behind closed doors" for difficult or important tasks.<br /><br />Overcome Burnout<br />An important factor that causes stress is "burnout".  Feeling burned out or dreading work for weeks could affect one's personal and professional relationships, as well as livelihood.  Indifference towards one's job or overwhelming frustration, sarcasm, quickness to argue, and anger are signs of a state that needs to be handled.  <br /><br />Some stress management tips to overcome burnout include: taking time-off such as a long weekend or vacation, or taking short breaks during workdays; taking care of oneself by eating regular and balanced meal, as well as adequate exercise and sleep; setting limits and learning to say no when necessary; developing friends inside and outside the office-sharing troubling feelings with trusted people helps solve them, and minimize interactions with "negative" friends who strengthen bad feelings.<br /><br />Having an outlet or diversion such as exercising, or getting involved in a few activities that are relaxing and gets the mind off stress is a very helpful approach towards stress. One great way of managing stress is through the oldest distinct practice of "self development", Yoga.  <br /><br />Yoga involves classic methods of breathing controls, ethical disciplines, physical postures, and meditation.  Originally an Eastern practice, yoga today is increasingly becoming well-liked in the West, especially with the seen benefits of healthier and more relaxed people who practice it. Through breath awareness, one can influence the conscious mind positively, and reducing the stimulation in the "autonomic nervous system" thus the person tends to relax.<br /><br />Guided Imagery<br />The principle behind this practice for reducing stress is that one can use their imagination to enjoy and recreate a very relaxing situation.  The more intense the relaxing image is imagined, the more the experience becomes relaxing.<br /><br />Meditation<br />Meditation affects the body oppositely to how stress affects the body. <description><![CDATA[ All it takes is that one comment, or anything that tells you you've said something wrong. You get embarrassed and you start to feel that heat rushing up around your face. Next thing you know, you're bright red and far more embarrassed than you were in the first place. Fear of blushing can lead to other social anxiety disorders.<br /><br />It can get worse as you develop more anxiety about blushing, which then leads you to blush more easily and in more social situations. <br /><br />This is exactly what caused my own social anxiety disorder. I could sometimes hide it by turning away, but I was so embarrassed when I got caught. Someone would always make a comment about my blushing, which made my fears worse. I eventually avoided social situations, and became quite introverted. Thankfully, with some effort, I have managed to free myself of this problem and no longer am afraid to blush.<br /><br />What is Facial Blushing?<br /><br />When you feel criticized or judged negatively, this can result in embarrassed facial blushing. Not everyone blushes the same way though. Even someone who is just as embarrassed or insecure as you are, may not blush as much. Everyone is different. <br /><br />Some people just have nerves in their faces that are more sensitive to emotional stresses than others. Your nerves control the blood vessels in your face, and in stressful moments they open up and extra blood rushes to your face. This leads to the characteristic red face of embarrassment. <br /><br />It happens most often in front of strangers, but can really occur any time. Situations with friends and family can also result in facial blushing when you get embarrassed or ashamed. Speaking to a group is also very likely to trigger blushing problems. <br /><br />Some Causes of Blushing<br /><br />The fundamental causes of blushing are embarrassment and shame, regardless of how these feelings are caused. Once you figure out what situations are most likely to cause you to blush, you can help eliminate the problem. There are several things that can cause this kind of shame:<br /><br />- Lack of self-acceptance. Unless you accept yourself for who you are, you are much more likely to be effected by the comments of others. Be happy with who you are, and you'll find that you are far less bothered by what other people think.<br /><br />- Lacking integrity. You'll find yourself with less shame in life if you are honest with yourself and others. Stick to your personal values and always be truthful. <br /><br />- Forgive yourself. There is no sense holding a grudge against yourself. Let the past be in the past and forgive yourself for any wrongs you may have committed. You can't change the past, so there is no benefit from dwelling on it. <br /><br />- Not meeting your personal expectations. You'll always let yourself down if you keep your standards too high, which can lead to feelings of shame. Accept that you've done your best and be happy with that.<br /><br />- Feeling inferior to others. If you think other people are better than you, you will always feel uncomfortable around them. This can cause you to become embarrassed easier. See everyone as an equal.<br /><br />- Failure at something important to you. You simply need to accept how things have turned out, and learn from the experience. <br /><br />- Getting caught in a lie. This one is pretty obvious, and also the easiest to overcome. People will find you untrustworthy if you frequently lie and you'll find yourself ashamed over and over. Be honest with others as well as yourself.<br /><br />How Will Blushing Affect Your Social Anxiety?<br /><br />Anyone who blushes easily will likely develop a fear of blushing in public, much like I did. This can increasingly become a problem as you avoid more social situations, and become more afraid of blushing each time. <br /><br />Unfortunately, you cannot avoid all potentially embarrassing situations forever. So it continues to happen, and you continue to become more and more fearful of your blushing problem. Eventually, you will be constantly nervous and uncomfortable around people. This can develop into a full-blown social phobia. <br /><br />It's best to confront the problem and learn ways to combat your facial blushing habit. There is only so  much pressure that one person can handle and stress will occur when the person  has had their fill of it. Stress is not necessarily a dangerous  thing. <description><![CDATA[ As we have already discussed how some of the causes of burnout lies with our situation in prior articles. The other part comes from within ourselves when we lost control over our life as a child.<br /><br />We have to set up a new path for our ideals, our ambitions, attitudes, intentions and our goals.  How we were treated by our mother can and will control the rest of our lives.  The main challenge is to recognize what unconditional love is.  We knew what it was when we were born, yet we did not know our mother did not know what it was.  So we pushed her to give us unconditional love which she could not give us because you can give what you do not have. We felt she was withholding love and recognition from us. So we pushed harder, but she could not understand our language so we had a language barrier. This is what the terrible two's are about. An angry child is demanding love, which mother can not provide and a mother who is irritated because she can not control her child. So the battle for control begins and who do you think wins?  The control, authority, disciplines and compliance parenting program does not work, yet does mother know any other way to handle her angry child?  So she began to break down the program and the concept of the eight qualities of unconditional love right after you were born. She may have known how to give affection but not unconditional love and recognition.  By the time we were four we had lost the concept and we were locked into a dysfunctional parenting program without unconditional love the same as her mother had done...  As a result the cause of Stress actually began before were four years old.  The seeds were planted in our mind which would turn into time bombs later life in our life. Our mother did not know she was setting us up the same as her mother had done and generations before her had handed this dysfunctional parenting program down to each child.<br /><br />This conclusion is based on a finding, published in the May/June issue of Child Development, that by age 15 these children are more likely to wake up in the morning with lower-than-normal levels of cortisol, a hormone related to stress. Normally, people have high cortisol levels in the morning that gradually decrease as the day continues. The abnormal pattern in these teens, the researcher said, could indicate higher levels of early stress.<br /><br />The results come from the Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development in the United States, done with the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. For the study, researchers observed the lives of 1,000 children from infancy to mid-adolescence to try to determine how child care in early life affected their development later.<br /><br />The abnormal cortisol pattern was found more often in the 15-year-olds who, during the first three years of life, spent more time in child-care centers and/or had mothers who were observed to be more insensitive. The findings held regardless of the quality of the child-care facility, the child's gender or ethnicity, the family's income level, the mother's level of education or the sensitivity the parents exhibited to the children as teenagers. Which again brings us to the fact the children did not receive the eight qualities of unconditional love.  Plus they were from a dysfunctional family background.<br /><br />This means that most people need to ReParent themselves.  85% of the population is adult children.  They need to return to their childhood and grow up again.  It is a very simple process described in my newly released book "ReParenting Yourself"  It is a very simple process to forgive your mother for not giving you unconditional love and recognition as a child and recognizing she did what she could with tools and knowledge she had under the circumstances. Two challenges have to be met.  Clear your childhood issues and set some goals to accomplish so you restart your life on a new path so you can reclaim your personal power and take control of your life.  "ReParenting Yourself" sets these out for you.<br />Using the Tool:<br />To start using this tool, list the things that give real meaning to what you do. Write down what attracted you to your current job or profession in the first place. List the things about it that you find fulfilling now. Include the value of the profession to humanity and what excites you about it. Think about what you want to achieve within it, and what you think is important to doing the job well.  You may want to start keeping a journal of your activities.<br /><br />This will give you a long list of things that are good about what you do. From this list, identify the five things that give the greatest meaning to your work. These should be the things about the job that most inspire you. Write these down in order with the most important item at the top of the list. This list shows you the things that you should protect as much as you can.<br /><br />Next, write down the things that frustrate you most about your work. This may involve things like inadequacy of resource, lack of recognition, or bureaucracy. As well as this, list the factors that are causing you difficulty and which are likely to cause stress in the future.<br /><br />Now work through the list of things that give you meaning item-by-item. For each item, look at the list of frustrations. Where these threaten the things that are most important to you, note these down: These are particular pressure points that you need to monitor.<br /><br />Think these through carefully, and plan in advance how you will handle build-ups of stress in these areas. Our article on avoiding burnout can help you to do this.<br /><br />You are most vulnerable to burnout when the stresses you experience impact negatively on the things that you find most fulfilling in your job and your life experience. Not only do you experience the unpleasantness of stress, you lose the job satisfaction and activities in your life that counter-balances this.  You may find yourself pulling back and not communicating with people around you. You may not be speeding fulfilling time with you family and friends.<br /><br />This simple tool helps you to identify the things that give meaning to the work you do. It then helps you to understand where the stresses that you experience undermine these. These are often the stresses that are most likely to cause you burnout. <description><![CDATA[ In becoming stress resistant it may take some concentrated effort to review your basic response to stressors in your life. Many people have autopilot reactions to stressful situations. We have to be able to recognize when we take an action to avoid the stress issue that is facing us. To better understand your reaction to life's stressors, consider your current coping behaviors:<br /><br />    * Do you tense up? Neck and shoulder muscle tension or clenched jaws or fists are often early warning signs of stress. Stress may cause an upset stomach, shortness of breath, back pain, headaches and other physical symptoms as well. Fibromyalegia is a good example of the result of not being able to deal with the issues in our life. When we stuff our anger or fear it shows up in our body.<br /><br />    * Do you reach for something to eat? Stress and overeating are often closely related. Stress may trigger you to eat even when you're not hungry or to lose track of your meal and exercise plans.<br /><br />    * Do you get impatient? Perhaps you find yourself pacing the floor or twitching nervously. You might have trouble concentrating or falling asleep at night. All of these are signs of stress.<br /><br />    * Do you get angry? Stress leaves many people with a short fuse. When you're under pressure, you may find yourself arguing with coworkers, friends or loved ones — sometimes with little provocation or about things that have nothing to do with what's actually triggering your stress. This stress becomes locked into your body in many locations and can even lead to illness.<br /><br />    * Are you reduced to tears? Stress may trigger crying spells or other emotional releases.<br /><br />    * Do you give up? Sometimes stress may be too much to take. You might deny the issue, avoid the problem, call in sick or simply give up then procrastinate to avoid facing the issue.<br /><br />    * Do you let negative thoughts take over? When you're under stress, perhaps you automatically expect the worst or magnify the negative aspects of a situation. Our perception of the situation will cause the issue to manifest in our life.<br /><br />    * Have you started to smoke again? Even if you quit smoking long ago, a cigarette may seem like an easy way to relax when you're under pressure. And smoking is a double-edged sword. Aside from the obvious health risks of smoking, nicotine acts as a stimulant — triggering even more stress symptoms.<br /><br />    * Do you turn to alcohol or other drugs? Stress leads some people to drink too much or engage in other risky behaviors, including drug abuse which can lead to addiction.<br /><br />    * Do you rely on a single coping technique? Sometimes crying, expressing your anger or isolating yourself from a problem that you can't possibly fix can serve as an effective stress management technique.<br /><br />The same goes for exercising, confiding in friends or other healthy coping techniques. But in the long run, you may need new ways to handle stress, too. If you find yourself using one technique all the time or you see yourself engaging in unhealthy behaviors — it's time to open yourself up to other stress reduction strategies and take the next step. Try tracking your reactions to stress over the next week by keeping a journal. Carry a small wire bound booklet to write down your reactions to a stimulus when you encounter an uncomfortable reaction. Jot down five to seven words that describe it so you can recall it that evening when you go over it to see how you handled it and evaluate how you can handle it next time this same issue comes up. When you go through this a few times the stressor will not affect you any longer. Once you identify how you cope with stressful situations, you can begin to think about alternative strategies. Consider it the first step on the path to positive stress management. Once you are able to recognize the issue as it comes up, you will change your reaction to a positive response. Almost always we can find the seeds of everything in the first eight years of your life.  The way you were treated as child will reveal all the issues.  They begin with one basic issue; your mother was not able to provide the eight qualities of unconditional love for you in the first two years of your life.  "Your interpretation was she is refusing to give me love and recognition."  Your perception continued to show you that she was withholding love and acceptance from you.  Since she would not give you love you decided you were not acceptable and she did not care about you.  As you became upset and pushed to get mother to recognize your need she became irritated and upset too.  You did not know at the time she could not provide love and acceptance because she did not know what it was. His reaction was that you were acting out and she had to control your behavior.  She used the parenting program she was given by her mother which was authority, control, discipline and compliance.  When you would not comply with her demands she then decided she had to discipline you.  This convinced you that you were not acceptable to her.  So you began rejecting yourself telling yourself you were not all right. <br /><br />At this point you began setting in the seeds for stress which will sprout when you are an adult.  By the time you are four years old you have set all the patterns in your life.  If you were raised in a dysfunctional family, all the seeds for stress and conflict were planted in your childhood.  If you were fortunate to come from a functional family these seeds were never planted. And because stress comes on a myriad forms, stress management activities also becomes broader. Here are some stress management activities you can engage on:<br /><br />Tai Chi, Stretching<br /><br />Relaxation techniques can quell almost any strong emotions.
