The most common topic is about having food and craving for it, but only very few are aware of the fact that the actual intense fat burner is none other than yoga diet. The diet is healthy containing fruits, whole grains and vegetables, that in no way supports gaining weight. As a result, it concentrates more on vegetarian foods and thereby excludes meat, fish and poultry. This is also viewed spiritually as being kind to animals, but it accepts dairy products such as milk, butter, eggs, yogurt and cheese as they are rich in calcium and vitamins required for the body.

Beans and legumes must be incorporated as it makes one of the best yoga diets that have protein and is a must to the body. Hence, it can be included in recipes, salads with beans and lentils, and various other bean dishes such as bean soups, sandwich spreads and lentil salads. Vegetables are the main nutrition in yoga diet and include an array of vegetable dishes comprising of organic and seasonal vegetable dishes such as curries, stews, appetizers, casseroles and entrees. Similarly, water is highly recommended such that a person takes nearly 2 liters of water everyday, and hence incorporating vegetable or fruit juices, coconut milk, rice milk, smoothies, nut milks, soy milks and other beverages that are healthy is preferred.

Foods that can be enjoyed are the best foods of yoga diet and this includes easy digesting foods such as vegetables, fruits, honey, beans, juices, butter and milk. Foods to avoid as per the yoga diet refer to the foods that cannot be easily digested or it can also be considered to be a heavily processed food. This includes several packaged foods made with white sugar or white flour, and also the food that is available in cans and in other packages that are filled with preservatives proclaiming longer shelf life. Another very essential aspect of it is eating the food slowly so that it is digested properly. Simply, pushing down the food into the mouth and swallowing is not the right way of eating, instead enjoying every mouthful and chewing it properly helps in proper digestion and yoga diet.

The primary concern is fitness and health and it is observed that following yoga diet has enormous health benefits than clinging to pills or strict diet regimens. These may be quick fixes, but are certainly temporary solutions, besides resulting in later on side-effects. It keeps a person health and refreshed and this health benefits keeps the mind focused, besides reducing high stress levels and high blood pressure. Yoga diet does not refer to any dry and tasteless food; instead it offers a delectable vegan treat. Mind should be focused as well as open to change so that an individual achieves success and also maintains it permanently.

Yoga diet brings gradual changes and expects to eat many small snacks and meals, instead of having big meals twice a day as it increases the metabolism. Drinking water before each meal will naturally limit the eating course and drinking 8 glasses of water is a must. Exercise is essential for increasing the fitness levels and peace, besides increasing the self-esteem levels as well as improving the mood. Walking even for ten minutes and taking the stairs whenever possible is ideal to support the yoga diet.

--
You can have access to articles about health in portuguese language from page Health

Roberto Sedycias works as IT consultant for Polomercantil

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

It seems each time you switch on the TV or look in a magazine you see a story about the problem of worldwide obesity. People are getting more unhealthily overweight every day to the point of it becoming life threatening. In the past, there have always been a small number of people who ate unhealthy foods, but now that number is quickly growing. We need to carefully consider how our unhealthy diet affects us.

Eating the wrong types of food can cause us to feel lethargic and sluggish. We're getting the wrong kinds of nutrients from all this junk food we consume. It's important to consider the quality of the food we eat, especially if you are a senior. As we age, our metabolism slows down quite a bit. We can't burn the calories at the same rate as when we were kids. This is what makes older people put on weight more easily and makes it harder to take off too. Gaining weight may affect seniors in a negative way, more so than younger people. Being overweight can put a lot of stress on your joints and can accelerate the problems of osteoporosis and arthritis. It can also contribute to other illnesses and muscle disorders. Being overweight can bring on diabetes, which is very common to seniors.

Everyone should treat themselves to something they really like to eat, now and then, but one shouldn't over do it. It's important to maintain a balanced diet. A good diet for seniors could consist of: Up to ten servings of fresh fruits and vegetables. Up to ten servings of complex carbohydrates like pasta, bread, rice and cereals. Three servings of calcium containing products, such as cheese, yoghurt and milk (low fat is best). Two servings of fish, poultry or meat for protein. A large helping of fiber, such as fruit, vegetables and cereals. This diet will not only provide good health, but will also fulfill all of your nutritional needs. All of us, especially seniors should avoid salt and saturated fats. Salt is really bad for high blood pressure. If you do use salt, just use a tiny amount. Most foods naturally contain some salt, so we really don't need to add any. Try not to use too much salt while baking and preparing food. Don't keep the salt shaker on the table while eating either. This will help break you of the habit of salting your food. Besides laying off the salt, stay far away from saturated fat. The body just isn't meant to handle it. Saturated fat is hard for your body to break down. It just sits around, clogging your arteries.

This is one of the main causes of obesity, cancer and gallbladder disease in our society today. Just as a well balanced diet can improve you health, a bad diet can cause it to deteriorate. This is especially dangerous for seniors. Seniors usually aren't as active as young people and have a harder time working off the extra calories. If you can keep your weight down, you'll improve your mobility and be able to burn more calories. It's important for seniors to enjoy life. If you eat a sensible diet and maintain a proper weight, you'll be around to enjoy your life a lot longer. You only get one chance at life. Make the most of it. Improve you diet today and you'll be rewarded with good health and long life.

--
Brad Bahr is the author of many health related articles and websites.
Yoga diet helps in setting an ideal weight and achieving spiritual and emotional balance. Yoga diet does not insist on planning a complicated menu or calorie tracking, nor does it ask you to stay hungry. Yoga diet refers to vegetarianism, as the principles of yoga regard Sattvic foods to be the ideal diet. These foods create new energy, calm mind and there by enables to use physical, mental and spiritual talents, besides being nutritious and easily digestible. Sattvic products include fresh fruits and vegetables, cereals, beans, natural fruit juice, milk, honey, butter and pure water. An ideal yoga diet focuses vegetarianism compiled of simple, natural, pure and effortlessly digestible foods that encourages the overall well-being and health.

The food cycle depends on the source of energy received from the Sun that helps in nourishing plants and hence it is believed to have vital life force, besides promoting life. Owing to this reason, the animal meat value is considered to be inferior by nature, albeit being a strong source of nutrition. Natural foods such as vegetables, fruits, grains, nuts and seeds all have varying essential nutrients in differing proportions and quantities. These are considered as they are getting easily absorbed, making the best sources of protein.

Yoga practitioners have listed fish and meat among injurious food believing that death fear pervades in every animal cell while being slaughtered. However, traditional yoga diet concentrates on lacto vegetarian and hence avoids eggs and animal meats inclusive of fish. In reality, modern research as well has given evidences that vegetarians are in better shape than non-vegetarians as the required proteins are obtainable from dairy products, nuts and legumes than that is available from fish and meat. Legumes, seeds, nuts and dairy products give sufficient proteins.

Yoga diet is appropriate with lacto vegetarian and this means it is composed of non-animal foods with the exception of milk and milk-derived products like yoghurt, cheese and butter. The research studies also state that a vegetarian diet is the best for overall health as meat proteins consume longer time to digest and are tough on the liver and kidneys. Relying on a vegetarian diet is not tough as there are adequate tasty alternatives to support the digestive system and health. However, red meats need not be cut down overnight and this can be done gradually by opting for white meats. Similarly, finding nutritious and tasty vegetarian foods will assist in relinquishing poultry, eggs and fish.

Eating fresh vegetables and fruits, and also cooking vegetables without destroying their enzyme and vitamin content with an inclusion of a few raw vegetables are recommended as yoga diet. Having whole grain foods and drinking nearly 2 liters of water everyday is mandatory. Stepping up by taking fluids having fruits and vegetable juices, herb trees, milk and vegetable milks is also suggested. Including soya, coconut, rice milk and abundant water rich foods are the best yoga diet, while steering clear of foods that are processed, sugar, white flour, fast foods, tinned foods, bottles, jars and pre-cooked meals is recommended.

Following a yoga diet does not compulsorily demand yoga practicing, but it focuses on the proven diet to reinforce a strong body and mind. Yoga insists in having a well-balanced diet to remain energized and alert throughout the day and is hence predominantly vegetarian comprising of simple, pure and natural foods.

--
You can have access to articles about health in portuguese language from page Health

Roberto Sedycias works as IT consultant for Polomercantil

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Organic Products - What Does It Mean To Be Organic

In 1933, Lord Northbourne published a book titled 'Look to the Land,' in which he outlined certain methods of food production he termed 'Organic.' His goal was to establish a view of the farm as an organism, self-contained and self-sustaining, in opposition to what he termed unsustainable 'chemical farming' relying on fertilizers and chemical pesticides. In large part, this organic farming was not a particular change from traditional farming techniques at the time.

In the mid-20th century, the ‘Green Revolution' led to widespread methods of chemical and industrialized farming that is still used today. As a reaction to the perceived weaknesses of these modern farming techniques, organic farming has grown in popularity in recent decades and particularly in the last ten years.

What is Organic?

Briefly, organic food is that which is farmed using organic farming methods. This means excluding food additives and genetically modified ingredients and avoiding the use of inorganic farming techniques such as chemical pesticides or crop irradiation. The exact definition of organic food can vary - according to the FDA, food is considered Organic if it consists of 95% or more organic ingredients. Other markets may have greater or fewer restrictions, depending on the criteria of various government agencies and the terms they set.

Know Your Food

Prior to the modern boom in organic popularity, the only way to be certain a product was organic was direct observation. Organically minded consumers would visit local farms and buy directly from farmers they knew to rely on organic techniques. They could observe firsthand the way produce was grown or the techniques used to milk cows. They could discuss changes and conditions with their provider, and generally the motto of the day was "Know your farmer, know your food."

This changed with the rapid increase in demand for organic food in recent years - as entire organic supermarkets such as Whole Foods came into being, consumption moved into the mainstream. Not everyone in the suburbs or major urban centers of the world is equipped with the knowledge or the time to get to know their individual local farmers, and sometimes organic produce can travel a great distance between production and distribution. Thus, third party agencies and government organizations have stepped in to create labels that certify products as organic in accordance with various private and public standards.
This does result in a disconnect, and require a sense of trust in these agencies.

Concerned consumers are therefore advised to research the standards set down by the certifying groups, and to do a little online research into how they go about making their decisions. Again, for example, the US certifies any product with at least 95% organic ‘ingredients' as organic. This may mean that the end product itself was not prepared in accordance with organic procedures, or is packaged in an inorganic container. A little research can help allay or confirm suspicions and concerns such as these, so the educated consumer becomes the happy consumer.

Why Buy Organic?

There are as many reasons for buying organic as there are products to buy. One of the most cited reasons is improved taste and food quality over industrially farmed food. Blind taste tests comparing conventionally and organically farmed apples indicated organic apples were usually sweeter and firmer than their competition. Proponents claim the lack of additives allows the natural, complex flavors of the food to come out and really captivate the consumer.

Another incentive is for personal health. Organic food is farmed with extensive restrictions on the use of pesticides, either in a complete ban or with specific, very strict criteria for their use. Thus, the USDA has released studies indicating that nearly thirty percent of organic foods contain no discernible pesticide residues, and the remainder have them in very small quantities. This is in comparison to conventionally produced foods, which can have as much as two thirds more pesticide residue than organically produced equivalents. Not every pesticide causes demonstrable harm to consumers. However, the point is that people can make better decisions for their health and their lifestyle when they know what is and what isn't going into their bodies.

The lack of pesticides also creates an environmental benefit important to many organically minded consumers. Pesticides can and do run into the local ecosystem surrounding any farming endeavor, and can cause havoc that may take generations to uncover and even longer to repair. Organic farming offers less impact on the ecology of the community and allows for a sense of civic responsibility and pride in participants.

A Little More Money

That said, organic farming does come with a hefty price tag. Since the same amount of land is producing less than conventionally farmed land, organic produce and goods can cost as much as 40% more than the alternative. A half-gallon of organic milk can cost as much as a full gallon of conventionally produced milk, which affects consumers' bottom line. Fortunately, there are ways to reduce this cost, again with a little bit of research.

For example, consider organic strawberries. These of course cost more than conventional strawberries, due to the strict and exacting standards required for their production. However, even the price of organic strawberries will go down during strawberry season, since the market will be flooded with the product, both organic and conventional. So, with a bit of research consumers can find out what seasons are best for each product they're interested in and buy in accordance with these cycles. Additionally, many organic companies offer special coupons and sales, just as do traditional supermarkets. A few minutes searching the web may yield a nice two-for-one sale on organic corn just in time for a big family dinner.

As with any passion, the key to truly getting the best use out of organic products comes from information, consideration, and action.

--
Janet Davis and her husband are health and nutrition entrepreneurs and founders of MarkandJanet.com, a website with uncompromising, premium products for your health conscious family.

Do you suffer from high blood pressure? Many Americans do. It's a rapidly growing health concern. For some people, high blood pressure is hereditary, for others it's due to being overweight from eating junk food that contains too many carbs and too much fat. Your doctor may prescribe medicine for this condition but you'll also want to adjust your diet to get the best results. Optimal blood pressure is at or below 120/80. Have you checked your lately? If you do have high blood pressure, it's very important to keep a close eye on your numbers. Some people check theirs every day.

You may already know that the very first thing you should do is cut out the salt. Hide your salt shaker at home. Most foods already contain way too much salt. You sure don't want to add any more. A great way to reduce your salt intake is to avoid fast food, heavily processed and "instant foods such as "noodles in a cup" and that kind of thing". Basically any kind of junk you take from a box, heat and eat in a few minutes should be avoided.

Here is a list of five healthy food that will help you keep your blood pressure down:

1. Foods High In Fiber: Eat lot's of fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains. These are great for your blood pressure as well as your heart and overall health. It's best to eat them raw when possible to get the best results.

2. Celery: Believe it or not, there is a compound found in celery called phthalide(3nb) that actually help improve blood flow. Just eating a couple of celery stalks a day can drastically improve your blood pressure numbers. One good thing about celery is that it's easy to consume. Eat it raw for a healthy snack throughout the day, put it in your juicer and drink it or just add it to homemade vegetable soup.

3. Garlic: Eating fresh garlic by adding it to your meals will help lower your blood pressure. Eating garlic helps to open up your arteries, letting your blood flow easier. You have to take it on a regular basis for the best results. If you don't like the smell and taste of raw garlic, you can find many good natural garlic supplements at your local health food store. You can even get an "odor free" version. Less bad breath this way and worth the extra cost. One note of caution, garlic also acts as a natural blood thinner so it should not be taken by some people already using blood thinning medicine or those who do not want their blood thinned. Ask your doctor first if you think this applies to you.

4. Tomatoes: Eat plenty of tomatoes as they are a rich source of lycopene. Lycopene lowers your blood pressure. Eat two or three fresh tomatoes a day or juice them in your juicer. If you find you can't eat that many, you can try a lycopene supplement from a health store or buy it online.

5. Foods Rich In Potassium: High blood pressure is sometimes caused by not consuming enough potassium. It's important not to get your sodium/potassium levels out of balance. Most people get way to much sodium and nowhere near enough potassium. While potassium supplements are available, it's best to get it naturally from the healthy foods you eat. Meat, potatoes, bananas and oranges all contain potassium. Don't go overboard though. Try to get a good balance of potassium and sodium. Too much of either is not good. Taking the middle way is best.

6. Skim Milk: The vitamin D and calcium in skim milk work as a powerful team to fight high blood pressure. Try to drink at least one or two glasses a day.

7. Unsalted Sunflower Seeds: This good tasting natural food is loaded with magnesium, an important substance for lowering blood pressure. Sunflower seeds are also contain a good source of potassium.

8. Dark Chocolate: Don't go overboard. Just one ounce per day is enough to help keep your blood pressure down.

9. Baked Potato: A rich source of potassium which helps in maintain proper sodium levels in the blood. Baked is better for you than mashed due to the nutrients in the skin of the potato. Try and eat the skin and not just the inner part.

10: Spinach. This leafy green vegetable contains a lot of magnesium and potassium. If you don't like the taste of cooked spinach, just put some in your salad. It tastes good this way. As an added benefit, it also has quite a bit of fiber it too.

These ten foods will go a long way in helping you to lower your blood pressure. Try them for a couple of weeks and see how easy it is to lower your blood pressure with these all natural, healthy and tasty foods.

--
Brad Bahr is the author of many health related articles and websites.
Cardiovascular Disease Becomes Number One Killer of Women in U.S.

Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death of American women, and the leading cause of diabetes-related death. More than 27 percent of deaths among American women are caused by cardiovascular disease, with cancer coming in as a runner up at 22 percent.

To combat this scourge, the American Heart Association recommends eating a heart-healthy diet rich in vegetables, fruits, whole grains, high-fiber foods, lean meats and poultry and fish at least twice a week in order to lower your risk.

Unfortunately, the amount of fast food, processed food and genetically modified food consumed by Americans makes this a difficult task.

"Processed and fast foods have very little to no fiber, and the amount of omega-3 in a fast food fish sandwich is negligible," said women's health expert Dr. Sherrill Sellman. "One of the newest dietary aids in the fight for healthy hearts is an ancient grain called Salba, which is similar to flax seed. It contains 8 times more omega-3s than Atlantic salmon. Rich in antioxidants, magnesium, fiber, iron, vitamin C, calcium and folate, it seems to be the perfect vegetarian source of what women need in order to stay heart healthy."

Salba has been clinically proven to improve cardiovascular risk factors, according to a study published in Diabetes Care, the official peer-reviewed journal of the American Diabetes Association. Core Naturals (www.salba.com), the manufacturer and distributor of all Salba products, refers to it as the perfect "functional food."

"There are many reasons why I consider Salba a super nutritional star for women's hormonal health," Sellman said. "It has the highest known whole-food source of omega-3 fatty acids found anywhere in nature. It contains a perfect 4:1 ratio of omega-3s to omega-6s. That ideal ratio is required for optimal health and hormones: regulating heart rate, blood pressure, blood clotting, fertility, immune support, and reduction of inflam¬mation. Inflammation is now understood to play a major role in chronic illnesses, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer."

There are other supplements on the market that contribute folate, calcium, fiber and omega-3s, but none are as nutrient-dense as Salba, Sellman adds. Fish oil has been touted as an excellent source of DHA omega-3s. The body uses omega-3s in its DHA form, but Salba, a vegetarian source packs more omega-3s in its ALA form. ALA converts to EPA, then to DHA, which the body can then use.

"To put this into perspective, a 1 tablespoon serving of Salba Seed Oil contains 8,373 mg of ALA, which converts to roughly 1,250 mg of DHA. Fish oil supplements generally contain between 200-500 mg of DHA per serving," adds Sellman.

Based on analysis of the Core Naturals product line, Salba contains:
• 8 times more omega-3s than salmon
• 25% more dietary fiber than flax seed
• 30% more antioxidants than blueberries
• 15 times more magnesium than broccoli
• 6 times more calcium than whole milk
• 3 times more iron than spinach
• 50% more folate content than asparagus

"With cardiovascular disease on the rise and women's health at risk, this ancient super food has been resurrected at just the right time," Sellman said. "Salba is a formative addition to your diet; it has very little to no taste and is more adaptable to recipes than flax, which has to be ground fresh in order to be absorbed. I don't see anything else available to consumers that comes close to these results."

--
Tony Panaccio is a Staff Writer at News & Experts.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Important Minerals For Your Healthy Body

Along with vitamins, minerals are essential to the body's good health. They are inorganic elements that the body doesn't make; instead, we obtain them from the foods we eat or through supplements.

It's been reported that some 56 percent of adults in the U.S. use some kind of nutritional supplements, fueling an industry that sells more than $1.5 billion in products every year. If you're spending money on supplements, you should know what you're getting.

There are two kinds of minerals: trace minerals and macrominerals. The category of trace minerals includes iron, zinc, copper, selenium, iodine, fluoride and chromium. Trace minerals are only found in tiny, trace amounts in your body. Macrominerals are needed in larger amounts in your body - these are sodium, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, sulphur, cobalt and chloride. Each mineral works in different ways to contribute to the body's health and wellbeing.

The following is a list of each mineral, the foods in which it can be found, and what it does for your body. In future articles, we'll discuss the various minerals in more detail.

Calcium is the most important macromineral for bone and teeth health. Without it, we couldn't stand up and chew our food. Foods rich in calcium are dairy products, such as milk, yogurt and cheese. Canned fish, such as canned salmon or sardines, and green vegetable such as broccoli also provide us with needed calcium. Calcium is so important that some foods, such as cereals and juices, are fortified with it.

Iron helps oxygen get from the lungs to the rest of the body. It is also essential in the production of hemoglobin. Iron can be found in red meats, tuna, salmon, eggs, beans, potatoes, raisins and green leafy vegetables.

Potassium is essential for keeping the nervous system working. Foods such as bananas, tomatoes, broccoli, potatoes, citrus fruit, legumes and nuts are rich in potassium.

Zinc strengthens the body's immune system and wards off illness and infection. Zinc can be found in legumes and meats such as beef, pork and lamb.

Magnesium is found in bones. It helps the body maintain a healthy metabolism and cholesterol level. It also converts sugar into energy. Spinach, beans, peas, nuts, seeds and grains are an excellent source for magnesium. Tap water also contains traces of the mineral but the amount will vary according to the water supply.

Manganese helps increase the absorption of nutrients such as biotin, thiamin and ascorbic acid. It helps maintain healthy bones and blood sugar levels and maximizes the function of the thyroid gland. It also contributes to healthy nerve function. Foods high in manganese are mustard and collard greens, kale, chard, raspberries, pineapple, lettuce and maple syrup.

Sodium, which is found in salt, maintains the body's blood pressure. Since too much sodium can lead to health problems, it is important to realize that processed foods such as bread, tomato sauce, Chinese foods, and potato chips have high sodium content.

Copper protects the cardiovascular and nervous systems, as well as bones. It helps keep arteries from hardening and is needed for healthy hair and skin. The body also needs copper to produce antioxidants. Half of the body's copper supply is in the bones and muscles. Copper can be found in beef liver, black-eyed peas, shellfish and cocoa.

Chromium controls the body's insulin and normalizes sugar levels. It also lowers bad cholesterol levels and blood pressure. Foods that contain chromium are romaine lettuce, onions, tomatoes, brewer's yeast, oysters, liver and bran. Since few diets provide enough chromium, a daily supplement is recommended.

Sulphur is known as the "beauty" mineral. It keeps hair, nails and skin strong.
The Acai Berry is one of the most nutritious foods ever grown on this planet. Since this petite berry can only be grown in the rainforests of Brazil, this of course, adds to the appeal of the berry. For centuries the citizens of this region have used the acai berry as an indispensable fare in their nutritional regime.

The acai berry has one of the highest antioxidant capacities of any food found on earth. It has double as many antioxidants as blueberries and up to 10 times more than purple grapes. It too maintains a healthful amount of essential fatty acids in the form of Omega 3, 6 and 9 and oleic acid, which is parallel to the fat found in the well-known beneficial fat, olive oil.

In recent times, the acai berry has exploded in popularity. You can find ads and information touting this little phenomenon fruit in health food stores, email ads and Internet ads. There are even many endorsements by famous doctors and celebrities.

The claims that have been made are that the acai berry is good for all, from weight loss to male virility. On the other hand, none of these claims have been verified scientifically.

There is no doubt that the acai berry is very wholesome and valuable to our healthiness but there is yet to be any scientific proof and the only proof is anecdotal from individuals who have had enormous victory.

The acai berry is extraordinarily elevated in antioxidants and other nutrition and it is remarkably wholesome. Providing your body with exceptional nutrition, can help you to hold back your hunger and provide you more get-up-and-go to exercise and the energy to follow a recurring exercise program.

It has also been scientifically verified that antioxidants, phytonutrients and exceptional nutrition are all very beneficial when it comes to the prevention of critical sickness like heart disease, diabetes and even cancer. In fact, the American Cancer Society has suggested 5 or more items of produce every day because the excellent nutrition, vitamins, antioxidants and other nutrition found in produce can check cancer.

And it has been determined over and over that one of the few options to lose weight and keep it off is to devour a wholesome, nutritious pattern of eating and adhere to a regular exercise schedule. The acai berry can be a constructive adjunct to your fat loss success plan.

--
For more info on \\\"How To Lose Fat Fast\\\"

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Know More About Water Filtration Systems

Multi-Media Water Filters (Depth Filters)

Multi-media water filter systems represent a significant improvement over single-media filters. This is primarily due primarily to improved filter bed action based on the innovative use and selection of filter media. Multi-media filtration permits delivery of high quality filtered water at much faster flow rates, as compared to a conventional sand filter.

In a conventional sand filter, lighter and finer sand particles are found at the top of the filter bed, and coarser, heavier sand particles remain at the bottom after backwashing. Filtration takes place in the top few inches of the filter bed.

A multi-media filter is backwashed in the same manner as a sand filter, using reverse or upward flow of water through the filter bed. The various layers of media retain their stratification because each material has a different density.

Advantages

1. The multi-media water filter systems operate for much longer periods of time (five or more times as long at the same filtration rate), before backwashing is necessary because the bed can hold more turbidity. Turbidity is trapped and held throughout the entire bed depth, rather than the top one or two inches.

2. Multi-media filtration is much better suited for use in a closed pressure tank since cracking of the bed, and subsequent breakthrough of turbidity is virtually eliminated and the need for visual inspection is unnecessary.

The use of pressure tanks, rather than open basins or filters, is an obvious advantage for point-of-use filtration and could also be of real importance in the filtration of small community water supplies.

More rapid filtration flow rates in multi-media filtration allow the use of smaller diameter tanks with equal or better results.

3. A very high degree of clarity is achieved in the filtered water because of the fact that the finer particles of garnet at the bottom trap finer turbidity particles.

4. Another important advantage is that multi-media water filters can clarify water at a much higher flow rate than a single-media sand filter (5.5 to 8 gallons per minute, as compared to 1.5 to 2.5 gallons per minute in a 12 inch diameter tank). This is 14 to 15 gpm per square foot of bed area, as compared to 2 gpm per square foot of bed area. This is a very important difference in the production of filtered water.

Pure Aqua's multi media water filters (MF-1100, MF-1000, MF-600, MF-500 MF-450, MF-410 MF-400 Series) clarify water by removing sediment, turbidity, iron, unpleasant tastes and odors, suspended particles, and unwanted color, all of which are commonly found in surface water. They can be used in a variety of service conditions including, but not limited to: industrial, municipal, and institutional applications.

Pure Aqua multi media water filter systems are ideally suited for use where stringent water quality standards are required or where higher levels of suspended solids are present. These applications can include re-use applications, water pre-treatment applications for reverse osmosis and deionization systems or as a pre-treatment system prior to disposable bag or cartridge filters. Pure Aqua multi-media water filter systems are also widely used as primary water filters for removal of suspended solids in incoming plant water or in waste water clean up applications.

With expertise of Pure Aqua water filter systems, you will receive economical solution that creates value for you while reducing your costs.

--
Pure Aqua, Inc. is a leading manufacturer and wholesale distributor of water systems, water treatment and commercial Water Purification Systems.
