In case the results are positive, they need to check which type of anxiety disorder they are suffering from. In case they have more than one of these symptoms, the professional must include everything in their treatment in order to be working.
The physician requires to acknowledge if the patient received any treatment of any anxiety disorder in the past or if he is being treated right now. Also, they must have precise info about the medicinal drug taken and the dosage.

Also, if they are being treated for other illness, they need to know that as well. Medication Side effect should also be regarded as well as an correct therapy to recuperate.
Not always, the patients that start treatments get cured inmediately. In many cases, they don't take the treatments seriously or they don't understand that a treatment is a long process and not a "push button" answer for their problems. To be able to get well, some patients need to test different madications and treatments and find the correct one.

Medication is not the cure all for anxiety disorders, attacks and connected conditions. Still, medication can watch these conditions while the person is receiving therapy. Medication can only be used if a doctor prescribes it.

Medications are mostly prescribed by psychiatrists. Mostly, the medications that are used for anxiety disorders are:
- Antidepressants
- Anti-anxiety drugs
- Beta-blockers

Magnesium for Migraine Prevention http://www.articletrader.com/health/depression/magnesium-for-migraine-prevention.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/depression/magnesium-for-migraine-prevention.html Wed, 08 Jul 2009 00:44:04 -0500
Herbal Headache Remedies
Headaches are a common problem. About 12% of the population suffers from migraines; counting sinus, tension, and cluster headaches, that number probably approaches 100%. While over-the-counter and prescription headache remedies often are appropriate, the expense and side effects can be problematic for some people.
Celery seeds. You can find these at the grocery store. Soak the seeds in hot water, strain, and sip like tea.
Chamomile. Chamomile tea is calming and soothing, and readily available at the grocery store.
Cinnamon reduces stress, loosens tight muscles, and lowers blood pressure--all of which ease a headache.

Migraine Treatment
People who suffer from the migraine headaches feel like this problem is impairing their strength and vitality. Sometimes it is too frustrating when all the migraine treatments you are using or have used fail to relieve you of the problem. The starting symptoms of migraine headaches are generally the spots, sensitivity to light, smells, or sounds, feeling dizzy or nauseated etc. At that time most of you want to stick up in your bed in a dark room with no light and sound to disturb you. You feel dizziness to the extent that you are unable to perform at work, school and even at home. Usually migraine headaches are often hereditary from parents to children and are considered as a neurological disease with biological causes in the body. Although the treatments for migraine headache have improved considerably with the passage of time but the available treatments are not effective for everyone suffering from this disease.

Natural Relief for Headaches
There are three kind of headaches: Cluster headaches, Migraine Headache and Tension Headaches. Cluster headaches are very painful one-sided headaches that tend to occur in clusters of several headaches in a short period of time, after which there may be no headaches for weeks or months. Cluster headaches that continue for more than one year without remission, or with remissions lasting less than 14 days, are considered to be chronic and are very difficult to treat.

How to Get Rid of a Migraine http://www.articletrader.com/health/depression/how-to-get-rid-of-a-migraine.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/depression/how-to-get-rid-of-a-migraine.html Wed, 08 Jul 2009 00:35:41 -0500
Get Rid Of a Migraine
Migraine is one of the most common types of headaches often described as sharp, "pounding" and throbbing pain on one or both sides of the head that may be associated with bright spots of light, blurred vision, blind spots or other visual hallucinations. Migraine attacks may be triggered by stress, bright light, loud noises, smells (paint, strong perfume, fumes from car heaters), too much or too little exercise, smoking, alcohol, illegal drugs and certain foods such as chocolate, coffee, tea, cheese, meats containing nitrates (salami, bacon, hot dogs), citrus fruits.

If you are a migraine headache sufferer you know how important it is to get pain relief fast. A migraine can be so severe that it can put a stop to your whole day. Many people who have migraines may have two or more each month. This article will examine a few ways to get rid of a migraine headache.

Migraine Symptoms
Any migraine sufferer would probably not be surprised to learn that a migraine attack is destructive. You know how utterly drained and wiped out you are after a siege.
But science is showing you are right. Depending on the the particular source of your migraine, you could be working your way toward a neurodegenerative disease like Alzheimer's, or a stroke.
A earlier study, done in the Netherlands, looked for two different kinds of brain lesions, both of which are small patches of dead brain cells. One of these lesions is sometimes called a ‘little stroke' and involves a blocked blood supply. The other type of lesion is frequently seen in people with Alzheimer's or multiple sclerosis.

Migraine Prevention
A migraine headache is a symptom. The pain is a sign that something is seriously wrong. You have a choice: you can choose prevention - find the cause and make changes in your life. Or you can look for the fastest way to get rid of the pain (which will come back again and again.). There are lots of reasons or excuses: You're working hard, you're under a lot of stress. Your time isn't your own. You don't have time to exercise. You don't get enough sleep. You aren't able to eat at the same time every day. You have to grab something to eat wherever you can.

Panic Attacks : Anxiety Disorder - How to prepare and control Panic Attacks? http://www.articletrader.com/health/depression/panic-attacks-anxiety-disorder-how-to-prepare-and-control-panic-attacks-00-3030.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/depression/panic-attacks-anxiety-disorder-how-to-prepare-and-control-panic-attacks-00-3030.html Tue, 07 Jul 2009 13:11:35 -0500

The first step to taking back that control is to learn to breathe. When a person has a panic attack, often they feel so overwhelmed that they forget to simply breathe properly. Many doctors, therefore, advocating safe breathing practices in order to help calm anyone having a panic attack. In fact, if you've ever had a panic attack in public, someone may have tried to get you to breath into a paper bag. This may or may be a good method for you, but the fact is that you should know and practice your breathing exercise before you are panicking. Have a planlearn calming breathing techniques and practice at least twice a day.

Other relaxing practices may also be able to help your panic attack. Of course, you might find it difficult to even consider meditation when you're having a panic attack, but by learning this relaxing procedure, you can use some of the same calming techniques that help you to meditate to help you calm down.

Another great way to prepare for a panic attack is to simply know your triggers. Do you have a specific phobia? Is excess stress your downfall? Do certain situations seem impossible for you? When you know what triggers panic reactions, you can do your best to avoid or minimize these situations.

You should also be medically prepared for a panic attack. When you go outside of the home, take with you a list of emergency contacts, which should include your doctor's number, your local crisis hotline, and members of your personal support systems. You can use these phone numbers yourself if you feel a panic attack starting, or another person will easily find this information in your purse or wallet if you are not capable of helping yourself.

Also take with you a bag to help you feel comfortable and calm down during a panic attack. A crucial part of the bag is any medications you may be taking, along with instructions on taking it. You can also include any items from home that will help you feel more comfortable. This can include herbal tea, a stuffed animal, religious items, photos, rubber bands to snap on your wrist, mints, hand cream, money, a puzzle book, and anything else that may help you relax, stimulated your brain, or distract yourself. Remember, comfort is key.

Causes of Depression: More than Just the Blues http://www.articletrader.com/health/depression/causes-of-depression-more-than-just-the-blues.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/depression/causes-of-depression-more-than-just-the-blues.html Tue, 07 Jul 2009 08:36:19 -0500
Nearly everyone experiences occasional feelings of sadness; depressed feelings are a natural reaction to disappointment, loss, difficulties in life, or low self-esteem. But when periods of intense sadness last for weeks at a time and hamper your ability to function normally, you may be suffering from clinical, or major, depression.

Major depression is diagnosed when you have at least five of the following nine symptoms for at least two weeks:

- Depressed feelings throughout most of the day, especially in the morning;
- Feelings of worthlessness or guilt;
- Constant fatigue or lack of energy;
- Insomnia or excessive sleeping;
- Indecisiveness, inability to concentrate;
- Restlessness, inability to remain still and calm;
- Lack of interest in activities you once enjoyed;
- Recurrent thoughts of death or suicide;
- Significant weight loss or gain within a short period of time.

Depression is a complex disorder which can be caused by many different agents; mental health experts believe that major depression is actually a symptom of one or more underlying health issues, rather than an isolated disease. Understanding why you are experiencing depression can help your mental health care provider direct your treatment appropriately, enabling you to enjoy renewed quality of life.

* Causes of Depression

The health conditions and genetic/environmental factors discussed here are all known to be associated with depression. Determining precisely why you are feeling depressed and addressing the particular issue are critical to solving your depression problem and allowing you to live to your fullest potential.

- Genetics

As with numerous other health disorders, it is clear that heredity plays a role in depression. Not everyone who has depressive symptoms has a family history of emotional issues; nor does having depression in your family guarantee that you will experience depression. However, research has shown that individuals with mental illness in their background have a greater chance of experiencing symptoms of depression themselves.

- Trauma & Stress

Traumatic and stressful life events, such as loss of a loved one, abuse, chronic illness or pain, or a move to an unfamiliar location can trigger depression in certain individuals. These events result in changes in neurotransmitter levels (discussed later in more detail), leading to brain chemistry imbalances that cause depression symptoms.

- Medications & Recreational Drugs

There are a large number of substances which many of us use regularly that can cause depression in some people. Prescription medications, birth control pills, anti-inflammatory drugs (including steroids), antihistamines, cholesterol pills, high blood pressure medications, antidepressants and tranquilizers are all linked to depressive symptoms. Nicotine, caffeine, alcohol, and street drugs are all known to lead to depression in certain individuals, as well.

- Neurotransmitter Imbalances & Abnormalities in Brain Physiology

Neurotransmitters are chemical "messengers" in the brain that regulate mood, thought, and memory. When neurotransmitters are not available at sufficient levels, depression can be the result.

Researchers have noted that individuals with depression often have an abnormally small hippocampus, a small structure in the brain that is closely associated with memory. A smaller hippocampus has fewer serotonin receptors; serotonin is a neurotransmitter that is vital in regulating emotions.

- Brain Inflammation

Inflammation, often present with autoimmune disorders such as diabetes, triggers the body's immune system response. Regulatory proteins called cytokines are marshaled into action to fight off possible infection; these peptides create a stress response, altering the levels of certain neurotransmitters, which results in depressive symptoms.

- Toxicity

Environmental toxins, such as heavy metals and molds, can trigger an immune reaction which sets off a cytokine response.

- Digestive Disorders

Digestive dysfunction, including bowel disorders, yeast overgrowth, gluten and other food allergies, and impaired digestion of proteins, can also set off an immune system response which can lead to depression.

- Nutritional Imbalances

Many important nutrients, especially the B vitamins, minerals such as zinc and magnesium, and the Omega 3 fatty acids, are building blocks for important neurotransmitters. Insufficient dietary intake of these nutrients can result in neurotransmitter imbalances, a significant cause of depression symptoms.

- Impaired Methylation

Methylation, a metabolic process which takes place in every cell in the body, is important for the manufacture of hormones, the regulation of neurotransmitters, and the synchronization of the neural networks that affect mood and cognition. When this process is impaired, it can disrupt the entire system.

- Hormone Imbalances

When hormones such as insulin, thyroid or adrenal hormone, and sex hormones are not available at proper levels, they can negatively affect the way we think and feel.

Depression is a serious illness which can have a significant negative impact on your life. Fortunately, lab testing is available that can help you to pinpoint the exact cause of your depression, allowing your health care provider to assist you in choosing the best treatment for your depressive symptoms. With proper care, your symptoms should disappear, leaving you to enjoy life to its fullest once again.

Natural Depression Treatments http://www.articletrader.com/health/depression/natural-depression-treatments_1.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/depression/natural-depression-treatments_1.html Tue, 07 Jul 2009 01:18:46 -0500
Natural treatment for depression includes a combination of things like natural medications, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Though depression is a serious medical condition, it can be treated easily if diagnosed at the right time.

Exercise in any form can help produce endorphins which lift the mood and also produce serotonin which is what anti-depressants do. This is one of the most natural ways to treat depression but often overlooked or forgotten. The advantage of doing sport is that you are active, meet people and your libido, sleep and other problems will slowly start to disappear. Go for walking, running, aerobics, weight lifting or jogging.

Restorative sleep is another method used for alternative treatments. A vitamin b complex for depression might be a consideration towards finding successful treatments to help a person sleep well. Why use unnatural substances for feeling down when there are many alternative treatments for depression are available? Each person is different and may respond better to some methods than with others.

DL-Phenylalanine (DLPA), is now considered by many doctors an effective antidepressant. This herbal remedy for depression works by raising phenylethylamine (PEA) levels in the brain increasing the production of Norepinephrine. This natural antidepressant also protects and increases the lifetime of Endorphins (chemicals involved in mood and pain regulation). DL-Phenylalanine converts to L-tyrosine in the body

5-HTP. This is an herbal remedy for depression that is also the immediate precursor to Melatonin and Serotonin. Serotonin gives a neurochemical balance during times of stress, and is essential to regulating mood and other important bodily functions.

Jasmine tea, a favorite of millions of people in Asia, has actually conquered the world with its unique flavor. It has a mild soothing action at the level of the nervous central system, inducing feelings of calm and tranquility. Drunk half an hour before going to bed, jasmine tea prepares the nerves for a good night's rest.

An effective therapy program suggested by your doctor will help you understand what self-talk is and how it can used to minimize depression naturally. A light, brisk walk around 20 to 25 minutes will help you fight depression, especially when the effect of depression is mild.

Losing a job, a loved one, or a relationship can all trigger sadness and depression. Your first choice should always be counseling and a visit to your doctor, but if things seem to be getting out of control and you are fearful of the traditional medications and risks of side effects, it's nice to know there are other choices that you can discuss with your doctor.

Before heading to the doctor for your next prescription for Zoloft, consider trying some of these natural options. Women suffering from postpartum depression who are nursing a baby should use extreme caution before taking any natural supplements.

Depressed and Lonely: Am I Normal Or Do I Need Help? http://www.articletrader.com/health/depression/depressed-and-lonely-am-i-normal-or-do-i-need-help_1.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/depression/depressed-and-lonely-am-i-normal-or-do-i-need-help_1.html Sun, 05 Jul 2009 12:50:30 -0500
While these are common issues that cause anyone to feel deeply hurt, alone and may bring on short term depression, many people are able to cope with and climb out of these deep chasms of emotional darkness. Normal channels of support and the healing power of time can eventually help bring a person back to a normal balance in life. However, there are many people who constantly feel depressed regardless of positive changes in circumstances, loving support from family and friends, and adequate time to heal from some of life's storms. If you have reached a place where you can't seem to find balance in life, you may need to consider the fact that you could be one of the 19 million people in America who suffer from mild to severe depression.

Feelings of extreme loneliness is only one of the many symptoms that plague those who suffer from a depressive condition. Other symptoms can include extreme fatigue all the time, lack of concentration, feeling of worthlessness, increasing physical aches and pains, inability to sleep or sleeping too much, and thoughts of suicide. Many cases of mild to moderate depression can be dealt with through self help formats and support groups as well as through counseling methods. These various treatments can make a huge difference and put a sufferer on the road to psychological recovery without resorting to medications and help through mental health facilities.

More stubborn cases of depressive disorders such as clinical depression, bipolar disorder, severe postpartum depression and schizophrenic require serious intervention and treatment protocols in order to offer relief to the sufferer. While there are particular symptoms that relate to each category of depressive disorders, clients who require treatment generally always indicate that they feel depressed and lonely much of the time. In these cases, a combination treatment plan is usually implemented by mental health professionals that include addressing the various symptoms with counseling, medications, enlisting family support and close monitoring of the individual.

Again, there are many reasons why you may feel alone and down. Therefore, it is important that you determine if you are just experiencing the normal reactions to the ups and downs of life or if you actually need help in coping with overwhelming feelings that are negatively affecting your well being. If you suspect you need assistance in dealing with being depressed and lonely all the time, please actively pursue help that can bring balance back into your life.

Poetry Heals PTSD Just like God's Gourd for Jonah http://www.articletrader.com/health/depression/poetry-heals-ptsd-just-like-gods-gourd-for-jonah.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/depression/poetry-heals-ptsd-just-like-gods-gourd-for-jonah.html Wed, 01 Jul 2009 18:03:22 -0500
It was only at Jonah's breaking point when he praised the Lord and vowed to do His will (seeing that there was a plan for him that he could not escape.) If I may stretch this a little further to include those persons facing addictions to drugs, alcohol, shopping, gambling, sex, etc. Vastly the above are signals to not being able to cope with their trauma, or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It is only at the point of surrendering to a Higher Power, as in Jesus Christ, are they (we) able to pick up our cross and move forward. The direction is shown no longer with self-medicating through whatever self-punishing behavior, but with a new way of thinking!

If I may continue to use Jonah's revelation of the gourd, you may contemplate that the gourd was a tool for relieving Jonah's depression. Why was Jonah depressed? He was in a traumatic life situation that he was not in control of what was happening to him. Just as those who experience PTSD. God realized that He needed to step in for Jonah as he could not hold in anymore mental distress. It was this Celestial Intervention that comes in the nick of time, through no power but of the Divine. Even though this did not take 10 years to happen (as in the time it usually takes to break down from PTSD) the healing started when the gourd was provided.

Poetry is the tool of Divine Intervention that directly coincides with the gourd. It is an emotional release of blocked feelings that are opened up from the mind's box of secrets. These secrets were kept veiled (not only from the victim's mind) but hidden from most of mankind. When there is a combination of surrendering oneself to your Higher Power and using prayer, praise, and contemplation, inspired poetry becomes the mind and soul's healing revelation!

Dealing with stress and anxiety http://www.articletrader.com/health/depression/dealing-with-stress-and-anxiety.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/depression/dealing-with-stress-and-anxiety.html Mon, 29 Jun 2009 08:13:12 -0500
Why are you worrying?

Anxiety and stress possess their own places. They are pushing us to make needed alterations in our lives. They warn us when we could be in danger, and encourage us to do things to get us out of the danger. This danger could be any sort of menace to our emotional or physical health, starting with not doing well on an exam to being fired or losing a friend. In this manner, feelings of anxiety and stress are needed and healthy - without them we can not take actions for our own good.

How much anxiety and stress is too much?

The point at which anxiety and worry are becoming harmful is when they don't push us to act anymore. This might either be because we are worrying of the things that we can't control or that did not happen yet, or because we get immobilized by the anxiety and stress that we are feeling, rather than getting encouraged to take action. Whatever the cause is, this anxiety and worry could produce much stress on our bodies and intellects, and influence our well-being.

Coping with anxiety

Now, that you comprehend the essence of anxiety and stress a little bit better, we may concentrate on removing them. The best treatment for anxiety is introspection and action. Here are several simple tips to follow:

At first, look inside you. What induces you to worry? You should be precise. For certain conditions, this could be willingly plain; other times, you could really need to meditate about it. Talking to a friend or writing in a journal about it might assist you resolve your emotions.
Then, settle what action has to be taken. Try to find out what part of the condition is under your administration. Estimate the trouble to find out whether the menace is real, or if you're blowing it out of dimension. If the trouble is simply a hypothetical circumstance or a worst script, settle if it's really probable that your frights will practically come to fulfillment.
Then, make a scheme that attacks the part of the trouble that you can control. Taking action to maintain yourself is a good manner to direct nervous energy and supplies confirmation against your frights.
Once you've done all you could, you should let it go. Same as everything in life, this is simpler said than done, but practicing, you may get pretty versed at letting go of superfluous levels of anxiety and stress. You may do this by concentrating on something else, resembling yourself of the decisions you've worked on, or attempting some stress administration strategies that would help you feel more centralized and at peace, like meditation or prayer, listening to music, or logging about your emotions.
If you are still concerned on a constant basis, you might talk to physicain and ask about some medicines; for example, Xanax. Of course, Xanax, or similar drugs, are not the best way, but you might want to try it. Or, maybe you would want to talk it either to a friend of yours, or to an expert, depending on how serious your worry is and how much it is influencing your total stress level.

What are the most efficient anxiety treatments for GAD? http://www.articletrader.com/health/depression/what-are-the-most-efficient-anxiety-treatments-for-gad.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/depression/what-are-the-most-efficient-anxiety-treatments-for-gad.html Mon, 29 Jun 2009 08:12:25 -0500
Cures for GAD at present involve azapirones, antidepressants, and benzodiazepines.

AZAPIRONES

Of the recent kind, azapirones, there is at present just one treatment obtainable. This medicine is buspirone (BuSpar is its brand name). Many medical advisers narrate high success employing buspirone to heal GAD as collated to other types of anxiety disorders. When selecting between buspirone and benzodiazepines certain significant factors will have to be thought of. At first, is there a necessity for instant effect? Buspirone, as collated to benzodiazepines, is slow acting, while benzodiazepines influence an almost instant effect. If you're in instant hazard of losing your job because of anxiety, two weeks might appear like infinity. A second thing to take into account is whether the anodyne effects of the benzodiazepines will place you at any sort of risk. Buspirone does not produce soothing as the benzodiazepines do. The older person might not be a fine candidacy for benzodiazepines. At third, a history of drug or alcohol misuse could be an opposition to use of benzodiazepine.

ANTIDEPRESSANTS

Imipramine (Tofranil) was the most widely researched and is supposed by some a standard medicine for anxiety. Other cyclic medicines that have been located to be efficient in healing panic disorder involve Anafranil (clomipramine), Norpramin (desipramine), and Pamelor (nortryptyline). Tricyclics demand just a sole daily portion of medicine. They are well researched and as well help to protect against depression that is frequently related to panic disorder.

People with panic disorder are frequently very delicate to the cyclics; some could undergo activation such as irritability, or restlessness at the start of medication. Normally, cure with a TCA begins with a lower portion which is raised over time.

One major detriment of tricyclics is that they at times cause heart side effects, along with sedation and weight gain. Tricyclics are frequently prescribed together with a benzodiazepine while the primary stages of panic disorder.

A second kind of antidepressant, MAOIs were located to be greatly efficient in the madication of anxiety impairments, involving social phobia and panic disorder. There are some svere side effects with these medicines. Patients consuming MAOIs need to possess a limiting diet due to a matter known as tyramine that is located in some foods. The cooperation between MAOIs and tyramine could force a hypertensive crisis described by an essential increment in blood pressure.

SSRI is the third form of antidepressants. Instances of SSRIs are Zoloft (sertraline), Prozac (fluoxetine), and Paxil (paroxetine). Examination from constant medicinal tests is mounting that SSRIs are an efficient course of medication for anxiety impairments.

BENZODIAZEPINES

Benzodiazepines are efficient in lessening phobic behavior and panic attacks, same as the preliminary stage of panic attacks. Medicines in this category involve alprazolam (Xanax), lorazepam (Ativan), and clonazepam (Klonopin). While benzodiazepines act fast, are efficient, and are safe from the medical point of view, around one half of patients undergo removal symptoms when withdrawn from the treatment and many medical advisors state that patients getting them could develop portability to the medicine. Xanax and other benzodiazepines could as well augment falls, and produce confusion and memory troubles in the older ones.
