Skin-tastic facts!
©Audrey King
http://www.linksformoms.com
http://www.ourperfectscents.com/audreyk

One of the hardest hygienic chores is to generate and keep healthy skin.

It takes work but it's not unattainable.

A daily routine is all you need and must have while drinking plenty of water each and every day.

But first, let's get to know the skin your in.

~Facts~
Skin is the largest organ of the body made up of two layers. The top layer is the epidermis which protects us against infections and dehydration. The second layer is called the dermis and it's job is to keep it's elasticity needed for body movement.

Morbidly thinking, if the skin were removed, it would weigh about nine pounds and stretch out to approximately 20 square feet. Each tiny square inch is full of 100 oil glands with 15 feet of blood vessels and two kinds of sweat glands.

(Do you think this is why we must keep
maintaining it the right way? Um...Yeah, I'd say so.)

~Seek and you shall find~
Finding the right skin care products is like finding the perfect mate.

What works for one person may not be the
best for another.

Either way, it's a “must do” to protect and help keep skin healthy at all times and sometimes at any cost. Now, that's not saying that you must buy expensive products and laser surgeries once a year. Although, a dermatologist should be seen as any other yearly examination or check up.

It's best to shop around and use by trial and error to see which products work personally.

(All the better, if you find that your “perfect mate product” can be found at the dollar store!)

~A cleaner you, is a healthier you~
Make sure you have a cleanser that cleans
thoroughly, for one. Every once in awhile,
soap up with a soft wash cloth or invest in
an exfoiliating towel. (Yes, I said towel.
And use it with the soap.)

Remember, we're talking the entire 20
square feet to clean!

~Bathing daily is a misguided myth~
Actually, your skin only needs a
thorough washing about three times a
week besides the arm pits and genital
areas. But, if you must bathe daily,
(and you respect others around you)
then always, ALWAYS, use a moisturizer afterward. It's best to apply it before you dry off and then pat dry.

Ofcourse, stay away from hot water.
Luke warm is the best temperature
for bathing.

~Don't scratch that itch!~
Insect bites or dry skin can cause minor
itching, even nervousness can. Instead
of scratching your skin which can rip
and tear, keep a small tube of
hydrocortizone handy. Apply it as much as possible until the itching ends. If the itch continues or a rash develops call your doctor.

Ofcourse, signs of itching can mean
that your skin is extra dry and you may
only need to moisturize (or bathe) more
often.

~Hmmm, the air we breathe~
Environmental causes will also have an
affect on skin. Dry air and pet dander are
major issues in which some people have
to use air purifiers or even medications.
(They're not about to give up 'ol Rover!)

Humidifiers are good to use, but be
careful of causing mold and mildew in
your home.

~Pretty is; pretty does~
Sunscreen should be a part of your daily
skin care routine, also. The most expensive
brands are sometimes the best for added
incentives, but no matter what you buy,
always use SPF 30+ even under your make
up. (Oh, and don't forget the lip balm!)

It really isn't that hard or expensive to have healthy skin. It's just time consuming
in finding what's right for you.

--

Heart Rate Training is basically concerned with Heart Rate Training Zones. These Trainings Zones make you do certain exercises to avoid the increasing heart rate problems. Heart Rate Training Zones take into consideration your Maximum Heart Rate and your Resting Heart Rate. Within each training zone subtle physiological effects take place to enhance your fitness.

There are lots of Heart Rate Training Zones. By undertaking Heart Rate Training within these specialized zones we develop a basic endurance and aerobic capacity. Another advantage of joining these zones is that while our body looses some weight it also allows our muscles to re-energize with glycogen, that is expended during faster paced work-outs.

Aerobic Zone is another Heart Rate Training Zone that develops our Cardiovascular System. The body's ability to transport oxygen to, and carbon dioxide away from, the working muscles can be improved by joining the Aerobic Zones. You become fitter and stronger after training your heart in this zone. Aerobic heart Rate Training conditions the heart and lungs and allows us to develop certain health benefits; from lowering blood pressure to burning extra calories during exercise and rest.

Heart Rate Training is a popular form of training which monitors your Heart Rate to determine when you are running too fast or too slow. There are two ways to determine our Heart Rate while training. First is to place fingers on the opposite wrist and counting the beats. The other way is to counting pulse rate by placing the thumb and first finger on the throat, just under the jaw on each side.

Heart Rate Training is quite beneficial. On one hand, tone can keep a regular check on the Heart Rate. On the other hand, one gets fitter after undertaking training in these Heart Rate Training Zones.

--

Stutter or stuttering can have a dramatic effect on somebodys confidence.

Fluent people really can not comprehend how hard it is to live your life with a speech impediment or stutter.

I run one to one speech courses in Birmingham and one of my clients once told me about a situation he was involved in. He and his friends went to a bar one Saturday afternoon to have a few drinks. After a couple of pints he went up to the bar to order himself a drink. Unfortunately he could not speak all of the words fluently and the bar man accused him of being drunk and refused to serve him. He tried to explain that he was not drunk but had a stutter but the bar man said "That's what they all say"

He returned to his friends who asked him where his drink was. He told them what had happened, this itself was very embarressing.

This is a typical situation people who have a stutter find themselves in.

Stephen Hill

--

The Skinny on Salt

Copyright 2005 Jeremy LiknessSalt was used long before recorded history began. One of the earliest known writings, the Chinese Png-tzao-kan-mu, mentioned more than 40 types of salt. This work was written over 4700 years ago. Even older settlements have been found around the world with various devices such as pottery used to evaporate water to leave the salt behind. It is speculated by some that major civilizations flourished in arid regions at the edge of vast deserts due to the physiological need for salt. Salt, or sodium chloride, is a chemical compound. Salt occurs naturally in many areas of the world. Salt crystals are cubic in form - if you view salt through a magnifying glass, you will see small “squares” or cubes. Salt is an essential nutrient - your body requires both sodium and chloride, and cannot manufacture these elements on its own. This is why there is a human gustatory receptor (taste bud) specifically for salt, forming one of the basic components of “taste”. Salt is an electrolyte and has a slight charge. Salt preserves food by making it difficult for microorganisms to live - the salt draws water from the cells of microorganisms and dehydrates them. In the body, salt helps to regulate blood volume and pressure. The relationship between salt and blood pressure was known as long as 4,000 years ago, when the Chinese emperor Huang Ti wrote of the connection between salt and a “hardened pulse.” Many studies have shown that increasing or decreasing salt intake for salt-sensitive individuals can have a direct impact on blood pressure. Within the body, salt serves as part of the ion pump. Just as salt formed a hostile environment for microorganisms by dehydrating them, salt controls water balance in the human body. The sodium/potassium pump is a prime example of how electrolytes are critical to health (sodium and potassium are both electrolytes). Two potassium molecules are pulled into a cell, and three sodium molecules are pumped out. This is an endless cycle, with the net result that cells carry a slightly negative electrical charge. For many years, controversy has existed with respect to the optimal amounts of salt in the diet. Unfortunately, many studies focused on the salt content of foods without taking into account other electrolytes. Biologically and physiologically, sodium intake alone does not regulate the sodium/potassium pump - potassium intake is important as well! More important than the amount of sodium in the diet is the ratio of sodium to potassium. While food labels are required to report sodium content, they are not required to report potassium content, which makes analyzing potassium intake extremely difficult. Recent research suggests that this ratio is critical. While many studies have focused on high sodium content in the diet, it appears that problems with hypertension may be related more to an inappropriate ratio of sodium to potassium. Processed foods are extremely high in sodium. The major sources of potassium are fruits and vegetables. In recent years, the typical American diet has increased in the amount of processed foods and drastically decreased in the amount of whole, unprocessed foods such as fruit and vegetables. This means that sodium intake is potentially much higher than potassium intake. When monitoring sodium in the diet, it is important to consider two factors. The first factor already discussed is the ratio of sodium to potassium. In order to balance this ratio, it is important to eat whole, unprocessed foods and not to add excessive salt to meals. This will lower the amount of sodium in the diet. One should also increase the amount of fruit and vegetables consumed in order to increase potassium in the diet. The exact ratio is unknown, but research suggests that a 1:1 ratio is probably a good target. The typical American diet is more than a 5:1 ratio in favor of salt! The second factor to consider is fluctuation of intake. Salt sensitivity is not sensitivity to salt in general. It is sensitivity to a drastic change of salt intake. If a person is taking 5 grams of sodium consistently, then suddenly goes on a low sodium diet, problems can occur with a radical shift in blood pressure. Similarly, someone on a “low sodium” diet who suddenly increases sodium intake may experience similar problems. This is why many people who eat healthy throughout the week and then treat themselves to a “splurge” meal sometimes feel nauseous and can even experience elevated heart rate and blood pressure: it is the body’s reaction to the sudden increase in salt intake. The sodium/potassium pump affects fluid balance. The body monitors the amount of salt and potassium in the bloodstream, as the body has no mechanism for storing electrolytes. Sodium and potassium are typically filtered in the kidney. When a shortage of either exists, the body secretes hormones that drastically reduce excretion of electrolytes and fluids. This is why cutting out sodium too soon before a body building competition can actually cause the competitor to retain water - the body is reacting to the lowered intake by preserving fluids and electrolytes. To summarize, the skinny on salt is as follows: * Be more concerned with the ratio of salt to potassium than the actual amount of salt in the diet * Do not try to eliminate salt - it is essential and required by the body - instead, try to reduce excessive intake by focusing on whole, unprocessed foods and minimizing the amount of salt that you add to meals * Increase potassium intake by including 4 - 5 servings of fruit and/or vegetables in your daily menu * Focus on restoring electrolytes post-workout, preferably with a higher potassium-to-sodium ratio. For example, Mass Maker from Beverly International has 300mg of potassium to 140mg of sodium, or about 2:1. * Avoid frequent, high fluctuations in salt and/or potassium intake, as these may have an adverse effect on your blood pressure The lesson here is one of moderation. Salt is not the enemy, and by no means should it be eliminated from the diet. On the other hand, everyone should be aware of the role that sodium plays in a balanced nutrition program, to make sure that excessive salt is not being consumed. Balance salt intake with potassium intake. The preferred source of any vitamin, mineral, or other nutrient is always natural, unprocessed foods.

--

Shaving Tips

Guys (and ladies too), I have some good news about shaving.

You have probably experienced some of the hassles and problems of

this chore and are familiar with its inherent potential for being

very annoying.

You may be frustrated with razor burn and dry skin after struggling

with your daily shaving routine. You can bet I tried all kinds of

different razors, shaving cream and even some aftershaves to see what

I could do about this problem.

You want to know what I found after a lot of experimenting and trying

different things? You probably have a neat handy little item that is

common household fare and may be found in your kitchen. It's

Olive Oil. You've got it, olive oil!

The benefits to using olive oil for shaving are huge. It is such a

natural lubricant that the right kind of razor will slide right

across your face giving you smooth and soft skin and still getting

the job of cutting the growth from your face. And the best part is

that your skin will actually start to look younger after using olive

oil to shave with over the long term.

Therefore, do not forget to apply some olive oil to your forehead

when you shave too. The reason is that the rest of your face will

become younger looking and you want your forehead to keep up. In

retrospect, I remember reading about a famous Hollywood actress that

mentioned that olive oil was her secret to having great skin.

You can bet that others are using olive oil to shave with too. I

did a search right before deciding to share this information with you

and sure enough there are other people out there that shave with

olive oil.

One nice thing about it is that you don't have to use high

quality olive oil. You can buy the inexpensive low grade olive oil

that doesn't taste very good from your local supermarket to shave

with.

A bottle will last a really long time. You can kiss your shaving

cream goodbye. You can also leave out aftershave if you so choose.

Your skin should feel great without it.

Now, let's talk about that razor of yours. Here is what I have

found out about razors and am willing to share with you. Even though

I use the great lubricant properties of olive oil to shave with, I

still have found a few issues that using the right kind of razor can

help with.

If your experience is similar to mine, you may have found that it is

difficult to shave in the grooves of your neck and face, particularly

under the jaw bone with typical razors. Even with olive oil you can

still easily cut your face if you make the wrong movement. You might

find that that Gillette's Mach 3 and olive oil are the perfect

combination.

The Mach 3 has a nice swivel head with a great lubricating strip.

This allows for the flexibility to really get into the nooks and

crannies when used in combination with the olive oil. You will be

able to get in there with a lot less fear of cutting yourself.

It's

not impossible, but the Mach 3 does make it a lot harder to cut the

skin of your face.

You may be using another brand of razor with a lubricating a strip.

So far, in my opinion, none have come close to the Mach 3 for safety

and comfort. I do sometimes use a stiffer blade to make the vertical

strokes because it can be really effective. But, when it comes time

to dig into those nooks and crannies, I like to break out the Mach

3.

No, I don't work for Gillette and I am in no way associated with

them. The reason I use a stiffer blade for the vertical strokes is

because its effective and also less expensive. The Mach 3 blades are

a bit on the expensive side, so you can save a little bit by just

reserving them for the nooks and crannies. With the use of olive

oil, you might be able to get a longer usage period out of a blade

before needing to dispose of it.

For ladies, I suggest a sparing use of olive oil. The reason is that

you will be covering a much larger area and too much olive oil can

get a little messy. For us guys, we can probably enjoy the luxury of

using more because it is easier to wash from the face.

I wish you the best of luck with your next shaving experience.

This article is for information purposes only. I cannot assume any

liability for your use or misuse of this information. Shave at your own risk and only if you assume full responsibility for any consequences.

--
It was discovered in 1950 by the gynaecologist Ernst Grafenberg.

For a while not many people actually believed the G-spot existed. Then in 1978 a book called "The G Spot " by Alice K. Ladas, Beverly Whipple and John D. Perry was published. This confirmed existence of the G-spot. Today sexologists believe every woman has a G-spot.

It is thought that the G-spot is either a bundle of nerves coming from the clitoris or a gland or series of glands that produces lubrication. It is also thought to be analogous to the prostate gland in men. When unstimulated the G-spot is about the size of a bean. When your lover is aroused it becomes more pronounced.

The G-spot is located behind the pubic bone within the front wall of the vagina, about two to three inches deep. The important thing to note is that the G-spot responds to pressure, not just touch.

Because the G-spot is close to the bladder stimulating the G-spot may result in a feeling of needing to urinate. This feeling my last anywhere from a few seconds to up to thirty seconds.

Here are some sexual positions that are good for G-spot stimulation.

Doggy style

This is a good position as the head of the penis is pointed directly at the G-spot.

Lap

While sitting on the edge of a couch or a bed have your lover sit on your lap, facing you. Her legs should be either wrapped around your waist.

Standing with her lying down

Stand facing a bed, desk, or something similar. Have your lover lie down in front of you. Her pelvis should be about one foot lower than yours. Place your lover's feet on your shoulders. Now have her tilt her pelvis so it forms a straight line where your crotches meet. Put your hands underneath her buttocks so you can hold her at that angle.

--

What is Adult Ear Infection?

Though adults are not affected as frequently as children, it is important for adults to be aware of how adult ear infection can affect them. Adult ear infection is caused by infection in the Eustachian tube, near the inner ear. The Eustachian tube connects the inner ear to the nasal passages in order to drain fluid from the ears and equalize pressure between outside and inside of the body, but when fluid or mucous builds up in the Eustachian tube, it is an easy target for infection.

There are many situations in which adult ear infection can surface. A cold can cause fluid build up and infection in the Eustachian tube. Post nasal drip may also contribute. An adult does not necessarily need to be sick to get adult ear infection. Often, the infection is caused by mucous being blown into the Eustachian tubes by blowing the nose or failing to clean the liquid out of the ear with a cotton swab after showering.

In one of every four cases in children, ear infection is not caused by a bacterial infection but by a viral infection. Viruses often cause adult ear infection as well. Viral infections are much more difficult to eliminate.

Adult Ear Infection Complications

However adult ear infections are contracted there are complications to be aware of. If these complications are caught early, the infection can be more easily dealt with. Complications associated with adult ear infection include fluid in the ear, pressure, and pain.

Part of the reason for the pressure and pain is that the tissue in the inner ear swells due to infection or trapped fluid. Often, the adenoids also swell due to infection. The swelling pushes into the ear.

Other complications include temporary hearing loss. The sound is obstructed due to the swelling, but no damage is actually done to the inner ear when the infection is treated. Even after the pressure is relieved and the infection has subsided, fluid may build up permanently in parts of the ear.

Adult Ear Infection Treatments

Whether bacterial or viral, adult ear infection may be treated and any buildup removed. With bacterial infections, antibiotics are necessary. Fortunately, bacterial infections can be very simple to treat.

Viral infections are more complicated to treat and may necessitate a myringotomy, which is a minor surgery in which a small plastic tube is inserted into the eardrum. This acts as a vent to relieve the pressure of the buildup or infection. It also drains the fluid remaining in the ear. This little tube is not permanent; it falls out automatically after a short time.

If the adenoids have caused the build up and the infections in the ear, they may need to be removed. They are just like tonsils in that they aren’t necessary and can easily be removed without complications.

Adult Ear Infection Prevention

Prevention of adult ear infection is simple. Nasal spray flushes out bacteria and pollutants which could cause build up and infection. Even allergens can be washed out. The important element necessary in effective nasal spray is xylitol, which naturally repels bacteria before it has a chance to settle into the nasal tissue.

Chewing gum containing xylitol may also loosen and relieve pressure in the ear while at the same time releasing xylitol into the mouth and throat and preventing bacteria to move up to the nasal passages and into the ear. Studies have proven the use of xylitol-rich gum reduces the risk of ear infection.

--

Bextra was created in the late 1990s by the G.D Searle & Co. division of Pfizer Pharmaceuticals for the handling of arthritis, inflammation, and painful menstrual cramping without the risk of severe stomach irritation. Clinical tests of arthritis patients over six months showed the relative safety of Bextra, and it was approved by the FDA on November 16, 2001. Bextra became one of the best selling drugs on the market, with sales in the tens of billions of dollars. Doctors were happy with the low percentage of stomach irritation, and patients were pleased with the boost in quality of life that these alleged “wonder drugs” provided.

Then on October 15, 2004, the FDA warned of harmful complications in patients who took Bextra directly after having heart surgery. Later, in November of that year, the American Heart Association released the results of its own clinical test, showing that Bextra had heightened the risk of heart attack and strokes. A prominent FDA reviewer proclaimed that Bextra was one of five different drugs listed as “unsafe” to prescribe.

After careful studies of the risk of not only heart attack and strokes, but also the frequency of potentially fatal allergic skin reactions, the FDA re-evaluated the drug and on April 7, 2005, they asked Pfizer to remove Bextra from American and European markets. Widespread prescriptions of Bextra had already caused significant damage, and may victims of the drug’s side effects continue to suffer from the terrible consequences.

If you are one of the millions who took Bextra, contact your doctor immediately. The side effects of the medication may take some time to appear and the earlier that treatment is given, the better the outcome for the patient. If you feel that you've been a victim of these types of side effects, contact an experienced Bextra lawyer who can help you fight for what you deserve!

--
