One of the most effective of these treatments is the Accupressure and it is easy to see why. The treatment is non invasive and does not bring with it unwanted side effects. It can be performed in the comfort of your own home. Most importantly - it works - with results which can be measured from the first treatment and benefits which accrue with use.

Acupressure has proved to be popular and has gained a strong reputation amongst natural treatments and alternative medicine all around the world. The first use of the acupressure mat as we know it today was in Soviet Union in the 1980s and the name of the first mats was related to its inventor Ivan Kuznetsov. These mats are called Kuznetsov Applicators. Since their introduction many millions of Kuznetsov Applicators have been sold in the former Soviet States and the lives of millions improved as a result.

In the late 1990s, with the spread of liberation following the demise of the Soviet Union Accupressure Mats began to be popular in a wide range of former Soviet Block countries and beyond.

Today we are seeing the popularity of Acupressure Mats spreading worldwide with their use sweeping across Scandinavia, Western Europe, America and Australia.

This popularity of Accupressure Mats is explained by their extreme simplicity and fantastic effectiveness. Unlike most drugs, relief is usually immediate.

Acupressure itself is known to benefit health in a number of positive ways - including reducing stress and tension; increasing blood circulation; aiding in the removal of toxic wastes; providing relief from head, neck and shoulder aches; promoting healing; increasing energy levels; and increasing feelings of well-being.

Original Acupressure Mats have provided effective relief in thousands of clinical cases and the success rate is 93%. It doesn't seem to matter how severe the pain is or how long the person has suffered.

Millions of Acupressure mats are being sold annually and as the reputation of the treatment spreads it is certain that more are will be sold in the future. There are dozens of different types, sizes, modifications and names of the Acupressure mat.

Mats are now marketed under a confusing number of trade names. They are variously called Tibetan Applicator, Russian Prickle Pad, Bed of nails, Hedgehog, Spike mat, Spikmatta, Piikkimatto, Shaktimatto, Shakti Mat, Yoga mat, Fakir Mat or Yantra mat.

With such a variety to choose from choosing the right mat for your particular condition can be a puzzle.

The main thing that should be considered is that this is a personal use device and it will be used in direct contact with our skin.

It is important to check that plastic spines are made of non allergic and non toxic materials and that they are securely fixed to the base fabric using a high strength, non-toxic adhesive. It is also important to check that the mat has got the necessary health and hygiene certificates.

The material used for the base of the mat is also important. Ideally it should be 100% Linen or Cotton fabric which allows free air circulation to your skin. Linen fabrics, with their high level of resistance to fungus and bacteria, are exceptional Fabrics for Healing, Healthy Living and Well Being. It is also better if the fabric has natural colors and is not chemically bleached or dyed.

Factory production is much more preferable than hand made for higher hygiene standards and better quality control of the evenness of distribution of the spikes. Also factory produced mats allow closer spacing of the spines for a more even distribution of pressure.

For maximum effect Acupressure Mats should be used on a flat and hard surface to maintain the best pressure from the spikes on acupressure points on the body. The use of foam backing is an indication that the mat has been produced with aesthetic rather than health considerations in mind!

Trying to repeat contours of the body reduces the pressure on the trigger points and thereby reduces effectiveness. Acupressure healing relies on the application of pointed pressure to the body trigging a series of complicated internal processes producing a Healing Response. Pain or injury acts to alert the body that damage control is needed, at which point the Healing Response begins and endorphins are generated to repair the affected area. This increases the heart rate and alters the blood pressure to speed up the elimination of toxins from the damaged area.

The research and clinical tests which proves the effectiveness of Accupressure used original Acupressure mats on a flat thin fabric base. Results for modified mats are unproven.

Independent experts have compared the most popular Acupressure mats on the market today. The mats tested were:
Swedish Acupressure mat (www.spikemat.com) - 51 balls
Shakti mat (www.shaktimat.com) - 26 balls

Easy Exercise Tips For Constipation http://www.articletrader.com/health/alternative/easy-exercise-tips-for-constipation.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/alternative/easy-exercise-tips-for-constipation.html Mon, 07 Sep 2009 02:26:19 -0500
People who are used to sedentary lifestyle may groan but fear not, exercising the colon does not necessarily have to be strenuous abdominal work- out, aerobics or jogging.

A good way to begin is to extend arms overhead and stretch arms and legs upon waking up in the morning, prior to getting out of bed. Here's an example of stretching exercise: while lying on the back, bend one leg using clasped hands to pull knee towards the chest. Alternate with the other leg. Another example is to sit up with legs extended straight and gently tap the back with knuckles. There are many suggested stretching exercises. The bottom line is respect the limitation of one's body and not to over exert especially for people with backache problems.

Since it is easier to have the urge for bowel movement in the morning, stretching exercises may help constipation sufferers to wake up their bodies and activate the digestive system.

This can be followed by breathing exercise. The purpose is to draw more air into the abdomen by first exhaling slowly as much as possible through the mouth and then inhale through the nostrils until the abdomen expands upwards.

Leaving the bed involves walking. Walking, is an excellent form of exercise for the colon that does not require athletic skill and money. A 30-minute walk daily is recommended for overall health. However, busy people
may break this quota into two or three "mini walks" and still reap most of the benefits.

Since everyone with two legs in tact has to walk, walking can fit into almost everyone's schedule. For example: park a bit further away from destination, use the stairs instead of elevator, take the dog out or make other excuses to go around.

If possible, upgrade casual walking to brisk walking for better results. A group of middle-age people suffering from chronic idiopathic constipation began brisk walking regularly reported improved bowel movements after three months, according to a study.

In fact, people who walk more than often for sports can experience diarrhea in the middle of walks in the case of what is called "runner's trot". It is important though, to choose the right time for a rigorous walk. After a meal, blood flow increases to the respective digestive organs to break down the food and move it along the gastrointestinal tract. To take a walk right after eating would direct blood towards heart and muscles instead. The decrease of blood supply in the digestive system slows down peristalsis and less digestive enzymes, resulting in bloating, gas and constipation. Therefore, the best time to go for walking exercise is after a meal has been digested.

Buttock exercises can also be conveniently incorporated. Simply tighten and relax the buttock muscles gluteus maximus discreetly while walking or standing. The key to overcoming constipation is to remain physically active on a regular basis. Do not allow old age or frailty to dissuade one from doing some exercises. Why not start with the simple ones mentioned above?

The New "Colic" http://www.articletrader.com/health/alternative/the-new-colic.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/alternative/the-new-colic.html Fri, 04 Sep 2009 21:06:20 -0500 as a test for reflux. Some mothers report their pediatricians prescribed acid reflux medications over the phone without even seeing the infant. The parents are happy because they have something to possibly alleviate the obvious pain their baby is suffering. The pediatricians are happy to be able to prescribe something that might help. The pharmaceutical companies are certainly happy. And the baby…well the baby could still be suffering from colic as well as the added side effects (restlessness, constipation) of the acid reflux medications. The baby may now be prescribed other medications to help counteract the side effects.

Dr. Linda Palmer, author of Baby Matters, writes: "Since the development of new expensive drugs for gastric acid reflux, most crying babies are diagnosed with GERD or gastroesophageal reflux disease and prescribed the new proton pump inhibitor drugs such as Prilosec and Prevacid. Parents usually find that these provide little help, if any. Current studies reveal that there is great randomness to the symptoms used to diagnose GERD, that while the drugs will reduce acid in the stomach and esophagus they do not reduce baby's colic symptoms or other symptoms, and that GERD drugs increase intestinal infections and pneumonia. While the GERD diagnosis and prescription of these drugs is lucrative, it sadly steers parents away from finding real solutions for their baby."

Certainly, acid reflux in various forms such as Ger (Gastro Esophageal Reflux), Gerd (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease) and Silent reflux can be part of colic and acid reflux prescription medication can help. Some babies may even suffer from an underdeveloped esophageal sphincter and require surgery but there are tests to determine these problems which should be administered before prescription drugs. Even Celiac disease (sensitivity to gluten) can cause Gerd symptoms that, once diagnosed, can be helped by a gluten free diet. However, doctors are tracked by many insurance companies according to the number of tests they order and feel tremendous pressure to keep medical costs down. Diagnostics that may be seen as "unnecessary" may not be ordered.

Reflux isn't always caused by over-production of acid. Gas bubbles in the stomach caused by formula, breast milk or improper feeding can cause reflux by forcing the stomach contents back into the esophagus. Parents who take the time to educate themselves and are wary to use prescription drugs without proper testing should know there are natural, safe, homeopathic treatments with minimal side effects to help an infant's immature digestive system cope with gas and the intense intestinal discomfort it can cause.

For more information and support with acid reflux, a group called PAGER (Pediatric/Adolescent Gastroesophageal Reflux Association) may be helpful.

Facial massages are becoming more and more popular. As you can imagine, this type of massage focus on your face and are great for reliving tension, stress, headaches, and other pain.

The most common type of massage is the body. This allows your masseuse to work on your entire body instead of just one area. If this is something that interests you it is important to know what you are getting into before you start. Obviously, you don't want to opt for a full body deep tissue massage if you are not used to this.

If you are on the other side, that being the person giving the massage, you need to make sure you are familiar with all the types. To go along with this, you need the proper equipment and products. This includes: massage oil, massage lotion, massage table, massage chair, and much more. You can even buy a massage DVD if you want to learn more about how to do this.

Now that you know more about the different massage types you can decide what is best for your body.

Best Herb for Joint Pain Relief http://www.articletrader.com/health/alternative/best-herb-for-joint-pain-relief.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/alternative/best-herb-for-joint-pain-relief.html Sat, 11 Jul 2009 16:19:53 -0500 HERBS VS. DRUGS FOR PAIN RELIEF

Joint pain relief is one of the biggest challenges for people who have arthritis or aching joints. Side effects of prescription drugs have proven to be so dangerous that some drugs have even been withdrawn from the market. Natural pain relievers, however, offer arthritis pain relief that is comparable to that of drugs, with the advantage of having little or no negative side effects.

RESEARCH IN COMPLEMENTARY AND ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE

The national medical database in complementary and alternative medicine at PubMed (U.S. National Institutes of Health) lists more than 6,000 research articles on arthritis. Hundreds of herbs worldwide have been discovered to relieve the pain of inflammation. Very few of these, however, have yet to become available to the public.

Some of the more widely known anti-inflammatory herbs that are generally available as supplements include turmeric (Curcuma longa) and ginger (Zingiber officinale), both of which are in the ginger family, Indian frankincense (Boswellia serrata), Devil's claw (Harpagophytum procumbens), and white willow (Salix alba). The best one, however, continues to be under the radar - i.e., the creosote bush (Larrea tridentata). Research over the past few decades shows that the antioxidant-rich leaf resin of this plant contains unique ingredients that inhibit enzymes in the inflammatory pathway that causes pain.

MOTHER NATURE'S PAIN RELIEVER

I have to admit my bias in favor of the creosote bush. I have been doing research on the natural products chemistry of this species for more than 35 years, first as a graduate student and then as a professor. My interest began when I had a conversation with an old rancher in Arizona who told me that the creosote bush was the best herb he ever found for treating his horses for joint pain. All he had to do was make a poultice from leaves and young stems, strap it directly onto the inflamed joint, and watch the inflammation go down.

Since then I have come to admire the creosote bush's rich folk medical history among native people in the deserts of the U.S. southwest and adjacent Mexico. Folk medical uses of the creosote bush have paved the way for modern research. Scientific studies confirm what non-scientists have known for centuries. Unique ingredients of the creosote bush bolster this plant's anti-inflammatory power and ability to relieve pain.

HOW TO USE THE CREOSOTE BUSH FOR PAIN RELIEF

The simplest method is to apply an old-fashioned poultice. Warm and moisten a handful of leaves and young stems, then put them directly onto the painful joint. Hold the whole thing in place with a bandage. Change every 12 hours. This technique, of course, requires that you have a source of fresh creosote bush leaves. If you live in the southwestern U.S., the plant will be easy to find, because it is the most common shrub in the three main deserts of west Texas/New Mexico (Chihuahuan Desert), Arizona (Sonoran Desert), and California (Mojave Desert).

A more practical method for people who do not live in the native habitat of the creosote bush, and even for most people who do, is to use a preparation that is already designed for topical use. This kind of preparation may be a little difficult to find, since most health stores do not carry it. Nevertheless, a quick internet search should yield some good possibilities.

WHO IS USING CREOSOTE BUSH NOW?

At the moment, topical preparations have become especially popular among golfers who suffer hand or elbow pain. In my own experience, the slight pain that I used to have in my left hand was a distraction for me when I played golf. Application of a creosote bush spray preparation directly onto the painful joint eliminated that distraction (and took away a great excuse for a bad shot!). A handful of professional athletes in baseball, football, and basketball have also benefitted from creosote bush treatments of sore ankles, knees, elbows, and shoulders. This herb will certainly become more popular for treating joint pain as successful stories such as these become better known.

The Common Types of Massage Therapy http://www.articletrader.com/health/alternative/the-common-types-of-massage-therapy.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/alternative/the-common-types-of-massage-therapy.html Wed, 08 Jul 2009 05:07:50 -0500
The first one is called the Swedish massage. This is a typical find in the United States. It is known to be done in such a relaxing and gentle way. With this kind of massage therapy, the masseur or masseuse makes use of the long strokes that are basically made up of the circular and kneading movements on the muscles by using either oil or lotion for a more relaxing effect.

The next one is termed as Aromatherapy. This is the term used simply because the professional masseur or masseuse uses one or more of the known scented plant oils in the execution of the massage session. You will be asked to choose the oil of course. Among the many plant oils, the lavender is one of the most sought-after because of its recognized effect in the alleviation of stress, both physically and emotionally.

Have you heard of the hot stone massage? Well, this is another kind. With this, smooth stones are heated and then placed on particular points of the body which need to loosen up the tight muscles. The stones also help in balancing the energy centers of the body. If you experience muscle tensions, you may request the professional to apply some gentle pressure.

The deep tissue massage is known to heal the deeper muscle layers and the connective tissues. Slow strokes are used across the muscles. The strategy is also referred to as the friction technique. This kind is employed on people who experience painful or chronically tight muscles, repetitive muscle strain, problems with the posture, and to help those who are recuperating from serious injuries.

Then you also have the Japanese massage therapy that is called Shiatsu. This therapy utilizes the localized finger pressure following some rhythmic sequence as what is done in acupuncture. The points are held for about 2 up to 8 seconds because the massage is meant to enhance the energy flow within the body.

Thai massage actually resembles Shiatsu in such a way that it re-aligns the energy in the body by applying the gentle pressure on some points. Stretches and compressions are done as different postures are followed.

The pregnancy massage is perfect for the expecting women. It is crafted to lessen swelling, aches, stress, depression, and anxiety.

Reflexology or foot massage includes the use of pressure as applied to particular areas on the foot. The practitioners believe that every point on the foot is associated with an organ in the body.

Sports massage is used on the athletes who need to get their physical injuries treated and prevented.

The back massage is of course another popular one. It is applied to relieve the tension in the back as caused by improper posture, lifting of heavy objects, and long sitting.

There you go with the types of massage therapy. Choose one which best applies to you!

I am currently researching on the benefits of full body massage. The benefits of massage are known to all and sundry. They include relaxation, the improvement of blood circulation, relief of stress and pressure, lessening the effects of muscle tension.

Natural Herbs for Impotence Treatment http://www.articletrader.com/health/alternative/natural-herbs-for-impotence-treatment.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/alternative/natural-herbs-for-impotence-treatment.html Wed, 08 Jul 2009 03:56:32 -0500
Erectile Dysfunction is a growing problem among men in the world today, but the good news is there is a cure. There are several treatments currently available. The one you choose will depend greatly on the cause of your impotence, and various other factors such as your medical history, any medications you take on a regular basis, and your stress level. Finding the cause is the way to the cure, but the cure may be simpler than you think.

Why Herbal Therapy Works?

Fact! Most scientists believe in the body's inside intelligence which allows it to cure itself if given the correct means.

Unfortunately, most people think that prescription medication is the only way to cure themselves. However, science and research are showing some simple concoctions that have been around for centuries are also beneficial too!

For instance, one of the most efficient treatments for kidney stones is a simple water flush which consists of drinking plenty of water for a number of days. It is also proven that cranberries are one of the most effective remedies for curing a urinary tract infection. And in the case of gout, the most recent discovery is cherries.

The variety of ingredients used in natural impotence treatments is extensive.

Natural Herbs That Have Been Used For Impotence Treatment

1. Ginkgo Biloba (Ginkgo Biloba)

As with so many other medicinal herbs Ginko Biloba treats the whole body rather than just one symptom. Recent evidence shows that it can increase the blood flow to the penis. Gingko Biloba is also used against depression and as a mental stimulator.

2. Yohimbe

This medicinal herb is probably the most popular herb today used for impotence treatment and Yohimbine, the active constituent in Yohimbe, is the most documented herbal solution for impotence and has been proven to work for erectile dysfunction. The downside to this is that Yohimbine can have many serious side effects like nausea, insomnia and nervousness. Also it can increase the heart rate if taken in large dosages. Both Yohimbe and Yohimbine are legally available over the counter as they are classified as a herbal remedy but they should always be used with the supervision of a health care professional.

3. Asian Ginseng (Panax ginseng)

Asian Ginseng has a very old tradition as a sexual potency herb. It is thought to increase sexual stamina and improve overall sexual health.

4. Muira Puama (Ptychopetalum olacoides)

A Brazilian shrub, that has been used in South America for centuries as an aphrodisiac and to stimulate the nerves. Considered by many as the best impotence herb available and in some clinical studies it has proven to be effective as a treatment for erectile dysfunction in some men. But as with many other medicinal herbs, more studies are needed.

5. Damiana

This traditional herb has the reputation as a treatment for erectile dysfunction.

Some other herbs that have been used as an impotence treatment are gotu kola, tongkat ali, butea superba and tribulus. Although not a herb, the amino acid L-Arginine has also been shown to be helpful for impotence.
