Many people think they have to have an expensive, top of the line digital camera to take great photographs, but the secret to a great picture is not the camera, it is the photographer. If you try these simple tips when using your digital camera you will reap the rewards of better photographs no matter what your subject matter is.

1. Position your subject

Use the Rule of Thirds to make your photographs more interesting. Imagine the scene divided into three sections, like tic- tac- toe, horizontally and vertically. Positioning your subject at the intersection of those lines will break up symmetry and result in a compelling photo. If you don’t get the perfect shot, you can crop it with Photoshop. You should be able to get a free download for Photoshop at the Adobe website.

2. Choose the Right Backgrounds for your Subject

Simple backgrounds are best for subjects with busy patterns. You can also adjust the depth of field to focus on objects closer to you while blurring objects far away. Simple subjects look best against a more detailed background. Be sure the background doesn’t interfere and take attention away from your subject.

3. Create Distance and Dimension

A photo of a distant subject can seem static and one-dimensional. Including subjects nearer to you in your photos gives a sense of distance. Blurring the background focuses attention on your subject.

4. Choose an Orientation that Suits your Subject

Your camera produces a rectangular image which gives you two orientations to work with-vertical or horizontal. Your subject will lend itself to one or the other. One sure way to find out is simply to take your photo both ways and decide which is best.

5. Use a Unique Point of View/ Get in Close to your Subject

Break the habit of shooting everything from eye level. Experiment with kneeling down to capture subjects from near the ground, or photographing subjects above you. Get in close to your subject -- close-up photography adds intimacy to your photos and helps capture all the hidden details and moments you might not ever see. Learn Photoshop so you can edit, crop and enhance your digital photos.

6. Use your surroundings to Frame Your Subject

Position your subject in front of an interesting doorway, window, scene, etc. to frame your subjects, keeping the Rule of Thirds in mind.

7. Avoid Underexposed Pictures

Indoors - move near a window or bring a lamp into the room. Move closer to your subject. Manually adjust the shutter speed on your camera. Change exposure settings. For lighter photos, adjust exposure up; for darker photos, adjust down. You are able to see what your image will look like as you adjust this setting

8. Avoid Overexposed pictures

On sunny days, find a shady spot	to photograph your subjects and use the flash which will cast an even light over your subject. Take advantage of overcast days to avoid shadows. When indoors, provide as much natural light as possible to avoid using the flash which may wash out colors and cast harsh shadows. Avoid the midday sun, early morning and late evenings are better times for photography.

9. Avoid Red Eye

Turn off your camera's flash or if it's too dark to go without a flash, ask your subject to look toward the camera, but not directly at the lens. By taking daytime photos, you may eliminate the need for a flash. Bring in additional light sources if needed. Try stand further away from your subject. If you try all this and still have red eye, try using Photoshop to edit your photograph.

10. Avoid Blurry Photos

Avoid shutter lag by pressing the button halfway down before you shoot your photo. When you are ready to take the shot, press all the way down to instantly capture the desired photograph. Use a tripod or brace yourself against a stationary object to hold the camera still. If your subject is moving, use the Action mode on your camera. The Action setting automatically optimizes the shutter speed to capture the action.

The best way to learn to take good digital photos is to takes lots and lots of pictures. You can just delete those you don’t want. Learn Photoshop so you can to make corrections, enhance your pictures, and use special effects to make your digital photographs look like a pro’s.

For more Photoshop Tips and Tricks, visit: /www.PhotoshopDemos.com>http://www.PhotoshopDemos.com

--
Ryan Dube has worked in the IT industry for over 12 years and is an Electrical Engineer by training.
That beautiful photograph you shot of a sun dappled woodland looks almost like a painting, doesn’t it? Likewise that candid picture of your grandson sneaking into the larder to help himself to an apple uninvited – another classic. And such images, those we treasure for sentimental reasons or those we are pleased with because we just got it technically right that day merit more precious treatment than simple being stuck on disk or in a photo album that would rarely be looked at. Our favourite pictures deserve something better, and now you can give them real art gallery quality by printing onto canvas.

You can print straight from your printer onto inkjet canvas paper and the results are stunning, giving a very authentic ‘masterpiece’ look. And because the paper comes in rolls of varying sizes it’s suitable for personal use or one-off print jobs or for commercial purpose where larger quantities are required.

Inkjet canvas paper is an ideal medium for printing up special images for display. It features a fine grain cloth-like effect, just like actual artists’ canvas and adds a certain textured depth to a picture that can’t be achieved using the more common flat papers. It’s ideal for wedding photographs and other exceptional works that will benefit from the timeless look it gives.

If you’ve not used canvas paper before and want to know how it works for you or your project don’t worry about ordering a whole canvas roll. A 24” sample can be purchased for £2.50.

The attributes of canvas rolls inkjet paper:

• It dries instantly – so no waiting time
• It’s waterproof – your picture is protected
• The edges won’t crack – guaranteeing a perfect appearance
• It’s bright white so it’s suitable for colours, B&W, Sepia
• It’s compatible with dye and pigment inks
• And it will work with most standard image quality printers including HP, Epson, and Canon
• It’s flexible – making for easy stretching and corner folding over frameworks or blocks.

For an additional fine art masterpiece effect the inkjet canvas paper can be varnished or lacquered, although the surface is waterproof so there’s no need to do this for any practical purpose.

Inkjet canvas rolls are available in 5 different roll lengths: 24”, 36”, 42”, 44” and 60”.
Artists Need Quality Picture Framing Supplies

Artists create art in order to share it with a wider audience. For those who paint or are photographers, sharing your artwork means framing it. There is a wide selection of picture framing supplies available, including Nielsen Bainbridge frames and conservation quality mat board, which can make your artwork stand out in its professional presentation.

Picture frames provide the basis for your artwork to shine. Frames come in both wood and metal styles, and both are used for particular purposes. Wood frames are the picture framing supplies typically used for framing paintings, while metal picture frames are used most often for framing photographs.

If top quality picture framing supplies are needed, then you will want to look at Nielsen Bainbridge frames. Nielsen frames are the highest quality aluminum frames, perfectly suited to photographic framing applications, and are used in galleries, studios, stores and by art lovers everywhere. They are paired with the finest Bainbridge mat board, and together they offer conservation quality framing materials that will preserve and protect your photographs for years to come.

Other picture framing supplies are not as readily apparent when you look at a framed picture, but nevertheless they play a vital role in the framing process. Consider photo corners and hinging tape, for example.

The first problem artists have when framing a picture is how to connect the artwork to the mount board. If you use adhesive, it will remain secure to the mount board, but you will not be able to remove the picture in the future without a great deal of damage to the artwork itself. Instead, many artists overcome this hurdle by using corners. They are small, and made from acid-free products so that no damage comes to the artwork. The photo or picture fits into the corners, and then the corners are attached to the mountboard, allowing for easy removal of the art anytime you wish. They are completely hidden under the mat, for a professional finish.

Another issue that can trouble artists is keeping the artwork securely in place within the frame. Artwork can become damaged if it slides around inside the frame, getting wrinkled or bent. To avoid this, many artists choose archival quality tape as part of their picture framing supplies. This tape is used to connect the top of the mount board to the mat. The picture is sandwiched between the two for a secure fit that keeps the photo in place, yet preserves the artwork at the same time.

All of these picture framing supplies come in a wide variety of sizes, so that you will be able to easily locate any that you require.

--
Susan Slobac is an avid photographer.Susan believes a picture frame is more than just fashion; it's a safeguard for something you love. In this article Susan talks about Picture Framing Supplies and Nielsen bainbridge frames.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

The digital revolution has made amateur photography more popular than ever before. The days of Fuji film and print processing have been replaced with talk of mega-pixels and memory cards. With hundreds of cheap digital cameras on the market, it’s possible for anyone with a good eye for photography yet little practical knowledge of the mechanics of cameras, to capture great shots with simple “point and shoot” digital models.

For some, a love of photography can turn into a profession. If you’re looking to take your photography to the next level, it’s a good idea to first build up a portfolio of work, and then submit your work to the many dedicated photography websites or competitions. There are hundreds of amateur photography forums and websites where members can submit their work for critical appraisal by other members. Such websites also offer advice and tips on photography techniques.

Another way to get recognition and even payment for your photographs is to submit your shots to magazines. Either choose a general photography magazine to do this, or try specialist consumer magazines. For example, if you are a keen skier, submit your ski shots to a winter sports magazine; or if you enjoy fishing, try an angling magazine. Local papers are also a good place to submit photos, as they are often on the lookout for pictures to accompany their stories.

When submitting your photography to magazines, it’s important to remember that photography is an extremely competitive field and that you will be up against professionals. Therefore, don’t get disheartened if your shots aren’t accepted at first – just keep on shooting and continue submitting; in the world of photography, persistence pays.

Amateur photography competitions are another great way of getting your photography seen, and can win you fans, prizes and even commissions or customers. A good idea is to start small; your local photography club will probably hold various contests; also keep an eye out for other competitions that are within your field of expertise. There are hundreds to enter, and they tend to have set themes – covering everything from travel to sports, nature to nautical and portrait to planes.

The ‘Million Places on Earth’ competition, for example, is offering a top prize of one million dollars for unique location images from anywhere in the world. Other competitions include Embassy Suite Hotels ‘Happiness in Motion’ competition, which carries an all expenses paid trip to Hawaii as their top prize; while UKplus are also holding an online photography competition with a top prize of £1000 for photographs taken within the UK.

Whether it’s for fun, glory, or perhaps a new career path, photography is an extremely rewarding hobby. And you never know - you might just see your picture on the cover of National Geographic one day!

--
Adam Singleton is an online, freelance journalist and keen amateur photographer. His portfolio, called Capquest Photography is available to view online.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

The biggest mistake that novices make photography is that they always have the subject in the center. You don't always have to have the subject in the middle. It's a good idea to test different angle so you comfortable with different shots. You can take pictures with the subject on the left or the right. You could even have them at the top or bottom.

Another thing to remember is that when ever you don't use the center you can have other issues. What happens is when you do not center some new photographers may not give enough room on the side of the picture that the subject is pointing. Try leaving space when on the side that the person in the picture is facing. If you do not the picture may look wrong or have the feel of being closed in.

You also want to pay attention to the the background of the photo. Make sure the background does not look too cluttered. If you need to, find a different background or shallow depth to make a better photo. Make sure the subject does not blend in with the background. Find a background that is a different color than the subject. If they are both the same is can make the photo look confusing.

--
This article was writen by Mike Lee.
Archival Storage Boxes Protect Your Work

Protecting your photos require a number of things, not the least of which are good quality archival storage boxes. Use of the proper photo storage box will insure that your photos are protected from moisture, sunlight, acidity – all of the elements that can cause photographs to become brittle, discolored and even destroyed completely. Archival storage boxes are the heart of an effective archival system.

Of course, there is much more to archival photo storage; simply using the correct photo storage box is only part of the equation. You cannot simply dump your photos into archival storage boxes and expect them to be properly preserved. You’ll need crystal clear acid free plastic bags for each one. Such clear bags are manufactured from a special type of plastic that is called biaxially oriented polypropylene that is at least 1.6 mil in thickness. Each one of these clear bags will seal your photo and protect it from any moisture that may work its way into your archival storage boxes.

In addition, you’ll want to use framing and matting supplies and at have your images at least partially mounted before slipping them into crystal clear acid free plastic bags. This way, the photographs will be kept flat as they lay in the photo storage box.

The boxes themselves need to be made from a special kind of paper-based material that is impregnated with what is known as a buffering agent. This is a special kind of alkaline chemical, the purpose of which is to neutralize any acidic molecules in the environment that may otherwise come in contact with the surface of the photo where they could cause discoloration due to chemical reactions with the photographic dyes.

Another reason for using photo storage boxes is to keep the photographs away from the light. As ironic as it seems, the fact is that the same light which allows photography at all is also responsible for the destruction of photographs. Pictures that are exposed to direct sunlight are prone to fading.

As with anything, purchase the best quality archival storage boxes you can afford; cheaply-made photo storage boxes with inferior materials can actually cause more harm than good, and are worse than not using any kind of storage box at all. Such archival storage solutions are an excellent investment in the preservation of your precious photographs; high quality archival storage boxes will protect your artistic images from the “ravages of time” – which are really nothing more than the environmental toxins and ultraviolet rays to which unmounted, unarchived photos can be exposed.

--
Susan Slobac is an avid photographer. Susan believes a picture frame is more than just fashion; it's a safeguard for something you love.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

As opposed to cameras that use film for photography, digital cameras use sensing elements called CCD’s. A digital camera is basically defined by its five basic factors, and lacking any one of these means that you’ve bought nothing more than just a little plastic box. The factors are namely; in-camera software, lens zoom range, lens aperture, lens quality, and resolution. There happens to be two types of digital cameras. The first one is the point n’ shoot (PnS) digital camera and the second is the digital single lens reflex (dSLR).

Point n’ Shoot Cameras

Most Point n’ Shoots these days can be bought for under $160. But to be sure that what you’re buying is just right for average photography (since that’s the purpose of most PnS cameras), you have to take into account the five basic factors mentioned above. Of course, most of these Point n’ Shoots have the auto option and you can usually just go for that. But what if you want more out of your photo? You’d have to consider buying a dSLR for that, but if you just don’t have the dough then you’ll have to settle for PnS digital cameras that give you enough manual freedom to tweak those five factors (assuming of course that you know how). Read below for your buying guide.

• Megapixels: 8 megapixels is more than enough. Heck, 7 seemed to have been the last standard last time we checked. More than 10 is overkill.

• Optical Image Stabilization: Make sure to buy a camera that has an optical image stabilizer. Without it, camera shake is a huge problem.

• Optical Zoom: Make sure you specify optical zoom instead of digital zoom. Retailers think they’re the same, when in fact they’re not. Optical zooming is important for the camera’s zoom range (as opposed to digital, which is basically just zooming in to a small spot of a photo)

Digital Single Lens Reflex Cameras

A dSLR camera can be intimidating, especially when it’s your first time holding one. But don’t let it get to you. Take your time and let everything sink in at its natural pace. Here’s a few basic step by step methodology when dealing with these kinds of digital cameras.

• Shoot on auto to get a feel for the camera.

• Practice on shooting through the viewfinder instead of the LCD. The main reason for doing this is for greater stability when composing shots. The other is for battery saving.

• Make sure to use the camera’s image stabilization technology whenever necessary.

• Use continuous shooting if you have to.

• Shoot RAW if you have a large enough memory card.

• If you want close up shots of small objects like butterflies or caterpillars, shoot in macro mode.

• Never shoot into bright lights, especially the sun.

• Don’t be afraid to experiment with the manual settings like; choosing a shutter speed, ISO setting, etc.

It’s important to know that in photography, it’s not really about the camera. Rather, it’s the cameraman that matters most. A high end dSLR won’t shoot itself you know. And besides, it so happens that a lot of good photographs are produced by meager cameras. Reversibly, a lot of photographs are ruined because the person just doesn’t know how to use a dSLR properly. It’s necessary then to know that you need to have a feel for your digital cameras to get a good photo.

--
wenze slaus is a educator and community activist
For more information visit
http://www.printablecouponssource.com/
http://digitalcamerasandgifts.com/

Source: http://www.articletrader.com
