"The Journey Into Website Creation."

By : Joy Lang
Dated : 7 May 2008.

Some years ago now perhaps shortly after retirement, I thought hummmmm!! I need to keep myself occuppied. Having used computer's within the workplace,I immediately assumed that working with a computer from home, would be similar. How wrong I was ! In all of my workplaces, my computer's, were hooked up to a mainframe, not just one simply tower at home. Stupid perhaps, naive certainly! Then I started surfing and came across, you guessed it, “You Can Work from Home” so I thought, perhaps, that might be a consideration.
I then came across what I thought was a pretty good deal with a“Work From Home” online plan, so I purchased it. Downloaded the ebook and all the freebie's, a began to follow instruction's very carefully. I became consumed by this project, whereby, I spent more time on my computer trying to build a successful online business, than I did with my husband. The computer became known as “My Other Partner”. That was (2) years ago and many, many hour's of despair.

Is working online achievable I believe it is. However there is no overnight success story that I know of and in the (2) years I have been online , I have met very few people who are there to help you, including the purchased “Work from home Plan” they can be counted on one to two finger's, just like life's journey. I don't mind saying this and I am going to anyhow, the (2) years I have been online, as mostly an affiliate for marketing products, my site's income amount's to ($7.95 AUD) and ( 1.30 GBP) ! What I have written here is the truth and I can produce those figure's should someone wish to test the creditability of this statement.
The reason I mention this, is , please have no pipe dreams about online success. It will happen but I assume it may take several years just for myself, to even begin to break even. Don't be put of by this either, as in most case's I could well be a one off . Should you try an online work from home business, there are many lesson's I would like to pass on in the coming week's, about “The Truths” behind online. I assure you there are many storie's such as this.

I have put this to print for those who are prepared to do it hard in the beginning but still have the tenacity to continue with their dream's. Can this work? Yes! Doe's it take much hard work and planning? Yes! Don't start out with the illusion of “Over Night Success” because, unless you have been fortunate enough to inherit online success, be prepared to struggle before gaining momentum.

There are many good and honest hard working people online, wit valuable information to pass on, do your due-diligence prior to jumping off an internet shelf. Find the most informative site's online, which can be, by the way, a tremendous help to you, take your time.
Online is the future well beyond my day's here, so, for those of you who wish to succeed,I say, “Go For It”, just be careful.

Regards and Good Wishes
Joy

Joy is the Webmaster of http://www.from-downunder.com/

--

Joy has two daughter's , has been married for 41 years to a Vietnam Veteran and has a varied finanacial mamagement background, starting with “Woolworths Australia” and completing her work journey as head of account's for “Brickwork's Australia” or commonly known as “Austral Brick's”.
Buying and selling domain names online is a very lucrative business. But the competition in cyber space today is so keen that it can literally stifle the lily hearted. The only way to excel and sell your names profitably is to increase their value better than the rest.

The following simple strategies should make your domain names sell profitably.

Park Your Names

If you have just registered or bought a name or acquired an expired one you are not going to use immediately, simply park it at one of these free parking sites like sedo.com, afternic.com, etc. However small traffic you generate to that name will increase its value. Rather than leaving the name as "This Page is Not Available", endeavor to park it so as to attract at the least, type-in traffic.

Develop a One-Page Website

An idle name is an empty domain name. The only way you can sell an idle name above 2 digit figure in today's saturated marketplace is when it is generic and it is also one word name. But you and I know that those good quality names are gone for good. So the only sure step to take is to simply add value by "beautifying" your name for a prospect to admire and want to buy. It is akin to an expectant bride getting ready for a suitor of her choice and dream!

Do you want to learn more on how to buy and sell domain names profitably? Then, check out the tips and tricks in this business of buying and selling names at my web site.

--
http://www.softwarerave.com http://www.earnforth.com

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

When you launch a new website you must register a unique domain name with an authorized registrar. When the internet was first starting, all domain names and IP addresses were registered through one organization, Internic. Eventually Network Solutions took over the role as “keeper” of the internet domain names. Today, there are hundreds of websites where you can register your domain name but Network Solutions still maintains the main database of domain names. Some websites charge as little as $2.95 per year for your domain name while others charge as much as $35 per year for the exact same service. Some even offer one year free if you register your domain name with them and host your website on their servers. Why pay $35 when you can register your domain name for much less at another website?
So why does Network Solutions charge $35 a year if they are the keeper of the database and their resellers charge a fraction or even nothing? Who knows and who cares! Register your domain with one of the cheaper providers and you'll be fine. A word caution - be care that you choose to host your website. Getting a free year of your domain name isn't worth it if your web host is unreliable and your website is down more than it's up.
You pay for your domain name on a yearly basis. It's a separate charge from your web hosting bill. When you register your domain name choose the autorenewal option if it's available. This way your domain name will not expire if you forget to renew it. If your domain name expires, it's free for anyone else to register so you need to stay on top of when it's expiring. Also registering your domain name for a 3 to 5 year term will often save you money. For example, godaddy.com charges $8.95 a year for your domain name but only $7.25 a year if you register for a 5 year term.
When you register your domain you can create different contact names. The three contacts are Administrator, Technical and Billing. Most of the time the same person is all 3 contacts. If you web designer registers your domain name for you, make sure you are designated as the Administrative contact. This gives you control over the domain name and you must be notified if someone is trying to make changes to your record. If you aren't one of the contacts then someone can transfer ownership of the domain name without your permission.
To see a record of your domain name, go to www.networksolutions.com and use their WHOIS utility which is located in the bottom left corner of their home page. Simply enter your domain name and click Search. You'll see the complete record of your domain name, where it's registered and where your website is hosted. For a complete video of how to use WHOIS, visit www.valiss.com/video/whois/whois.html.
When you register your domain name you'll have to the option of making it a private registration. I highly recommend paying the additional fee to make your information private. If you leave your registration public anyone can look up your domain information which includes your home or business address and your email address. Many spammers scan public domain registration records to find valid email addresses to spam.
I always use a yahoo or hotmail email account when registering my domains. This way if spammers to find my email address, I can just get a new “throwaway” email address and I won't receive spam at my primary email address.
Always make sure your domain record remains locked. Locking your domain name is a feature implemented a few years ago. When you want to transfer your domain name to a different registrar you must unlock it. Once it's unlocked the new registrar can “pull” your domain name from your current registrar. Once the transfer is complete, the domain name will be locked to prevent anyone else from “pulling” your domain away from you.

--
http://www.infozabout.com
http://www.webnet.infozabout.com

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

What is a Domain? The simplest definition of a computer domain is an Internet location or address. It is simply the permanent location of information on the Internet. Most of today's domains have recognizable names such as www.schoolofdomains.com or www.mydomainchallenge.com. In reality, the letters making up a domain name are substitutes for long strings of numbers that would be difficult or impossible to remember. Mydomaincallange.com numerically would look something like this 123.345.567. That is called IP address.
IP addresses are neither intuitive nor easy to remember. Use of a domain name that replaces a string of meaningless numbers makes it much more memorable and recognizable. When you set up a website, you should choose a domain name that clearly lets visitors know what your site, or domain, is about. The most common domains end in .com, .net, .org or .edu. These last three letters are equivalent to showing the "neighborhood" of the domain. For instance, domains ending in .edu are all related to education and most are schools of some type. Domains ending in .org are often organizations such as non-profits, while .com and .net are used by just about anyone who sets up a domain .However .com is still considered most popular and sought after top level domain.
Whether or not you've heard the terms "Top-Level Domains" or "TLDs", you've interacted with them every time you type a web address into your web browser. A TLD is the group of letters that follows the final dot in a domain name. For instance, the TLD for Domain.com is "com". Read more about top level domains. Anyone can register a domain name, but to do this you will need to provide the registration company that is called registrars with some personal details such as name, address, company name and contact information. In most cases, you will register the name for at least one year, and then have to pay a renewal fee to keep beyond that.
Your domain name can contain any letters or numbers you want as well as hyphens ( - ) , and can be up to 67 characters long. Your best bet is to find a short but memorable domain name. You will also need to follow current trademark laws to protect both you and other domain owners. Domains should be between 1 to 63 characters long and must not exceed 255 characters. Top-level domains Every domain name ends in a top-level domain (TLD) name, which is always either one of a small list of generic names (three or more characters). The most popular are .com, .net, .org, .info, or a two-character territory code based on ISO-3166. For instance, the territory code for Estonia is .ee, Australia .au, France .fr. Top-level domains are sometimes also called first-level domains.
The process of assigning a TLD name is not all that simple. The assigning process is done by the Internet Corporation of Assigned Name and Numbers. This organization is known as ICANN and a name that domain owners see quite often. This is because ICANN operates the DNS root zone and also operates the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority. Yes, ICANN is a very busy organization. They are constantly evaluating whether or not they need to add additional TLDs. But in addition to territory codes, they also issue what is called Generic top-level domains, or gTLDs. These are top-level domain names that anyone in the world can register. But ICANN does make sure that the correct territory codes and gTLDs are being extended to the organizations registering them. And ICANN also reserves special TLDs in order to avoid confusion amongst common domains and purposes on the Internet. These TLDs include .invalid, .example, .test, and .local host.
These are only used under very special circumstances and ICANN determines if the circumstance is special enough. If it isn't, then the individual or company seeking to use one of these top-level domains must use one of the more common domain names. If you want to have a new domain name extension at the end of your web address, you will have to contact ICANN to make the request. However, when it comes to special domains, such as the special TLDs, it is very slim that the request will be approved. That is why you don't see those domain name extensions that often. Some of them you've probably never seen at all. This shows how rare approval is on these TLDs. Why is ICANN so picky about top-level domains? Well, they are because they are responsible for keeping the Internet organized. Without some sort of process put in place, the Internet would become a very unorganized place.
Despite how chaotic it may already seem, it is rather organized compared to what it could be. You are able to find the many things that you do and new organizations and individuals are able to obtain valuable domain name because the system is very particular. And until these special TLDs and any others that ICANN develops become necessary, you can expect such domain extensions as .com, .net, .org, and .info to be the most common ones that you find. They get the job done. However, you have to determine which is more appropriate for your purpose. If you're an organization, you can choose .org. If the .com is taken, you can use the .net. If your site is purely informational, you can choose .info. You get to make that choice.

--
Note: You are free to reprint or republish this article.
Free stuff sites make up a very decent percentage of all sites on the internet. You can get anything from free screensavers to free software to free iPods to free vacations on the internet. Obviously other than a very few select products none of them are 'truly' free. They are not even a 'shareware kind' of product. Most of these schemes will expect a certain action to be performed to claim the 'free stuff'.

Normally, signing up to an offer from an advertiser, referring friends to a site or service or buying a related product all are examples of the 'actions' expected. For example, the free iPod offer that took over the internet by craze works on the premise that each person will refer 5 of their friends to the scheme as well as sign up to a few sponsors offers himself.

What is surprising is that out of all these offers, there are very few that are webmaster-centric. You hardly find offers for free domains, free web hosting or free traffic when you sign up for an offer. This is probably because the cost of these services or products is too low to warrant much interest. It can also be that webmasters prefer more direct forms of rewards like cash.

It is not that there are absolutely no free domain offers on the net. There are a few but their 'action' expected is either to buy hosting or to sign up and post at forums. The first scenario is a little scary because most web hosting companies will register the 'free' domain in their own name. So if want to change the web host, you lose the domain name and with it all the hard work you put in to develop the brand image. That leaves the posting at forums option. Well, if you asked me to post, say 50 messages and all of reasonable length (at least 10 - 15 words), it will take me a month. This assumes that I also have something better to do! I cannot wait that long for a domain even if it is free.

From experience, it is seen that a webmaster will never refuse a free domain name. For that matter no one will refuse a free thing if there is no catch involved. A webmaster should be willing to sign up for a free offer or two in exchange of a free domain. If such a scheme were available it should be quite successful. May be not as much as the free iPods schemes but at least 50% as effective as them. If the free offer does not involve disclosure of credit card information, it will be the icing on the cake!

This is exactly what I have been working out. You sign up for an offer. If it is a valid sign up then I buy you a domain name. No credit card information required and no obligation too. That simple. The only condition is you must be from the US and must fill up the information required (name, email, address etc) honestly. As soon as I receive confirmation of the signup (usually 2-3 days) you get your domain name. And, yes these are not pharmaceutical or gambling offers, you need to sign up to receive more information from an online education university. Can it get better than that?

--
http://www.adsence-dollar-factory.com
http://www.100earningtips.com

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Registering a domain name is the preliminary step when you set up your website. Your domain name should expose what your position or your company is about. It should be expressive and simple to keep in mind.
If you can register your domain name by using your greatest niche keyword you will also attain a few points in trying to find your site high up in the search engine rankings. Look for engines who advice you that domain name like www.blue-widgets-purple-widgets-cheap-widgets.com may be not in fact be a valid production and you should therefore be careful not to material your domain name with keywords.
Here is some information to choosing a premium domain name:
1) If your company is famous among your clients it is best to register your business name as your domain name.
2) If you are offering a product or service that you particularly want to market throughout the internet without even HAVING a company, then an explanatory name might be a better option.
3) Hyphens are easier to study and recognize by the search engines. The only negatives about hyphens are that they are complicated for people to hear! You will possibly have difficulty in spelling out your domain name over the phone or in discussion when it contains hyphens. It is also right to say that a name not including the hyphens are also seen as being more practiced.
4) While register a domain name you should register as many alternatives as possible (with hyphens as well as without hyphens) with extensions such as (.com, .net, .info, .biz). Registering domain names are actually not that expensive and you will be defensive the speculation into your company and your website product
5) If you are placed in a country other than the United States, for all time try and register your domain name with your home Top Level Domain conservatory (e.g..co.uk, .co.za) ever since the local adaptation of Google will give favorite to names with extension same your own country.
7)	Always try and register your domain with an independent registrar and NOT with your hosting supplier. If you ever desire to move your website to one more hosting provider, it will now be easier to do it if your domain name registrar is also not your hosting provider. You may get it more difficult to get your website left from a shocking hosting provider if they have managed above your domain name as well.

--
http://www.founddomain.com

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

We know how to choose a good name - and there is no reason you shouldn't know it too.

When choosing a name you should keep in mind that domain names are meant to help users find you more easily. If you want a good domain name follow these simple rules:

1. Shorter is better

Make your domain name as short as possible as long it remains recognizable. For example usedcars.com is far better than weofferusedcarsatlowprices.com. It is easier to remember and it also minimizes the risk of typing it wrong.

2. Make it simple and memorable

Avoid using abbreviations, hyphens or anything that could put your visitors in doubt how to spell or say it. Domain name should be easy to remember. This is especially important when people try to find you the second time.
The easiest way to follow this rule is to read your name over the phone to your friend and see if he got it right. If you have to explain anything than you have a problem. Change it, you will thank me later. :)

3. Your domain name should be your website name

Really. The name of your domain should reflect the content of your website. Why? Because when people think of your website lets say its name is Rare flowers they will try finding you by that name. In this case rareflowers.com would be a good choice for your domain name.
If you follow this rule you also gain some advantage with the search engines.

4. What about extensions?

My advice is use a .com. If you are serious about your site you should avoid various new domain extensions. It takes a bit more time to register .com since it is the most popular extension but you wont regret it.
Following these simple rules will put you way ahead of those who will register just the first name they can think of.

For other great tips on domain names visit our website.

Copyright © 2006, EasySiteGuide.com

--
Easy Site Guide is a great resource for beginners.
For some, it is very difficult to choose a domain name for their website. Here are some important tips which will help them to choose a domain name.

1.	If you have selected a name of your domain but found out that it is not available then don't be disappointed, try other extensions. That is if .com is not available for particular domain name then try .net, .biz etc.

2.	Best domain names are supposed to be generic name like bikes.com, movies.com etc. But most of these are already registered. Add some names related to your market like buysalebike.com

3.	Try adding "s" or "ies" like plural words into your domain name. It is possible that particular domain name may be booked in singular form and not in plural form.

4.	Whenever feasible use your website title as your domain name. This may seem to be very obvious but in practice very few websites follows this method. You may add your name in your URL. This way your customer has no difficulty in finding you.

5.	If you want to select between a short domain name and the domain name which is long in length then choose the short one. Since, it is very easy to remember the short word than a long word. But most probably the short domain name may be already taken by someone. Long words in your domain names, means that it may contain more keywords. We believed that some of the search engines use domain name's keyword as one of the criteria for their search.

6.	If your website only appeals or deals with particular area or country then it is better idea to book your domain name with specific extension like .co.ca, .co.au etc. This will show the site's origin.

--
Alfred Henders is a freelance writer for Domain Name Registration the premier website to find Domain Registration including topics on internet domain name registration, domain names, domain transfers, domain registration, domain hosting service providers and more.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

"New Trend Shows Domain Branding More Important Than Ever Before."
On Feb. 6th, 2003, websidestory Inc a web analyzation company released a report showing that the majority of websites are now visited by direct navigation, instead of using search engines and web links.
Direct Web Navigation is when a visitor locates a site by typing the domain directly into the browser or from a using a bookmark.
According to websidestory.com, in 2/2001 48.14% of sites were found through direct navigation and the other 51.85% through search engines and weblinks.
As of 2/2003 that percentage has risen to 64.43% and only 35.55% were found through search engines and links.
This study however does not diminish the importance of search engines and links for initially finding a website.
But it does give evidence that a domain and site that a visitor is able to remember will be returned to directly in the future.
Note I said ‘able to remember’ and not worth remembering.Sure your site should be of such value that it is worth remembering, but if you don’t have that solid brandable domain that sticks in the brain like glue than it won’t matter.
How many times have you wanted to return to a cool site, but couldn’t remember the domain to get their? Of course you could search for it at a search engine, but this takes more time and effort. The more steps you put in front of your prospects, the less likely your site is to be found.
This is why domain branding is so important. For a very low investment any online business has the power to intensely leverage their marketing.
Think about it. Your Domain name is the most important marketing tool you have. Your domain is the first thing your audience sees and your first chance to generate a response from a consumer. Do they visit or move on? This decision is hugely impacted by the effectiveness of your domain.
The entire basis of marketing is getting someone's attention and your domain must do just that. It becomes extremely powerful to use a brandable domain name to leverage your marketing to the maximum.
Put simply a quality, short, memorable domain will always lead to an increase in sales.
Nobody knows this better those large corporations who have spent millions on solid brandable domain names. In one famous example venture capitalists in California paid $7.5 million to acquire Business.com. Even forsalebyowner.com fetched $835,000.
A little off topic but still interesting, is Ex-marine Darryl Pollock who registered the domain IraqiFreedom.com and has received offers into the thousands (Note: He has been quoted saying that if he were contacted by the pentagon he would 'completely cooperate with them.')
Crazy isn't? But big business knows that these domains are worth because that domain will bring in sales for years and years to come. They can build it, promote it, brand it and it will work for them forever. Even two word, hyphenated domains are grabbing some pretty prices, checkout these recent Actinic and EBay sales:
Internetbank.com $92,800 E-Privacy.com $35,080
Eloans.net $6,060
Ez-HomeLoans.com $4,725
Venture-capital.net $14,510 officetravel.com $2,625
Qalaxycafe.com $1,890
When you are marketing your site, business, product, service, you must be seen, heard and remembered by your audience. Consumers are bombarded with messages all day every where they travel. You must stand out and the most cost effective way to do this is logical domain branding.
So what domains are memorable and what makes a domain brandable?
Find out and see examples in Part 2 of our special domain branding articles series.
Get Part 2 now, by sending a blank email to mailto:10336@QuickPayPro.com Wayne Ford is the owner of a leading supplier of daily expired and soon-to-expire domain lists.
