Imagine you're out there every night delivering pizza . You get a call for a strange delivery . The customer says they had just bought the house and they have not taken the time to hook up the electricity so there won't be any lights on. You walk up to the house and something just doesn't feel right . You senses tell you that something just isn't right . As you walking up to the house an armed gunmen comes out the shadows and tells you to give him all the cash . What do you do?

Scary situation right? Sounds like something right out of a horror movie. This is actually a true story that took place recently in North Carolina. A 46 year old pizza delivery person was dispatched to deliver to this home with no nights. When he was walking up to the door a gunmen jumped out of the shadows with a firearm and demanded his money. But they delivery man declined to give them anything. But he gave them something that saved his life.
He had been doing this job for a few years and had robbed at gun point before .
The prior experience had taught him to take steps to keep himself safe . His choice for keeping himself safe was to use pepper spray. He carried it with him everywhere because he know something like this could happen again.
So when the punk kid pulled the gun on him the delivery man drew his pepper spray and used it on the gunmen making the gunman immediately drop his weapon. Another kid stopped out of the house with a rifle. The delivery man turned tail and ran for his Jeep. He managed to get out of there just in time .

His choice to carry pepper spray made the difference between life and death. This is a perfect example of how a self defense product like mace pepper spray can save your life. Almost all of us are in some sort of danger every single day. It may not be obvious but it is there. Self Defense For College Students

Summers now half way over and the new school year is just around the corner. This means different things to different people. If you're a parent that's sending their child off to college there is no doubt you have some fears in mind. There is nothing wrong with it; as a matter of fact it is perfectly normal. You have raised your children and done everything in your power to ensure they are in a safe and productive environment. Once they're off to college it is up to them to make sure they are safe. They no longer will have you right there making sure they take the right steps.

Most colleges are pretty big and can be considered a melting pot of many different types of people. Most people are there with good intensions of developing their lives and bettering themselves. However, there are always a few bad seeds mixed in with the bunch. With different factors such as drugs, alcohol, and stress this could lead to a potentially unsafe environment.

Most colleges do very well in protecting the student body but when you think about it there is normally a few thousand students and maybe 100 security guards trying to protect everyone. For the most part this works very well but year after year there is a large amount of crimes committed on campus. These include robbery, sexual assault, and harassment just to name a few. The chances of a crime happing to your child are not huge but the risk is always there.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to scare all you parents out there. The point of this article is to make sure you are educated on your choices for keeping your children safe. If you have read my previous articles then you know that I am big on many self defense products. For today I want to talk about two of them that can make the difference for your child if they find themselves in an unforeseen predicament.

This first self defense product I want to talk about is a personal alarm. They are almost never talked about and really not that well known. They are very simple and very effective. If you don't know what a personal alarm is allow me to educate you. They are a small electronic device that normally attaches to your keychain. They have a button on them to press in case of an emergency. If the button on the unit is pressed it sets of an ear piercing alarm noise that can be up to 120 db. If you're not sure how loud 120db is then just trust me, it's VERY loud. The point is to scare off an attacker and alert others that you are in trouble. They are extremely simple to use and very effective.

The best part about personal alarms is how simple they are to operate. If you can use the remote for your car to unlock the door you can use a personal alarm. They also do not come with any of the negatives that can be part of using pepper spray or a stun gun. When you are using either pepper spray or a stun gun there is the chance that it can be taken away and used against you. They are by no means bad methods of self defense they just have a higher risk. So if you are a parent that wants to get a super easy to use self defense product for your child I highly recommend getting them a personal alarm.

The next self defense products I would like to discuss is pepper spray. You have probably have read a lot of the other stuff I have written about pepper spray. I won't lie; I'm kind of a nut when it comes to the stuff. It is very versatile and comes in an ocean of different shapes, sizes, and potency. You can pick pretty much anyone you want and you're going to get some fantastic results.

I would also like to clear up a few myths for everyone. A lot of people believe that pepper spray is dangerous chemically engineered substance that poses a lot of risks to anyone it is used on. That is actually incorrect. To put it simply, pepper spray at its base is an extract of red pepper that is highly purified. It can be dangerous if the person it is used on has repertory problems or if used in extremely large amounts but most of the time it is perfectly safe.

By using a small bottle of pepper spray someone can bring an attacker to their knees from up to 15 feet away. If your child finds themselves in a situation with an aggressive attacker all they have to do is push down on the top of the bottle and they will gain the upper hand. The best part is this will give them anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes to escape and find help.

I personally feel pepper spray is the best option for anyone who is in college. The many shapes and sizes it comes in make it perfect to take anywhere. Your child can use a small keychain bottle to keep on their key ring. They could even have a slightly larger bottle to keep in their pocket, purse, or car. There are also many other times including bottles that look like pagers, tubes of lipstick, or even walking weights. As you can see there is defiantly a solution for any college student when it comes to pepper spray.

Both of these self defense products are very effective and both carry their advantages and disadvantages. So if you have a child that is going off to colleges this year or even one that is already in college I recommend getting them a personal alarm or some pepper spray. It will make you feel much better about the safety of your child and I'm sure they will as well.

Stun Guns:

Once of the most common types of self defense weapons is a stun gun or other related electroshock weapons. Most stun gun type weapons release a very high voltage shock, up to 1 million volts, of static electricity. These weapons may seem very dangerous but due to the low amperage there is no permanent damage caused to the person it is used on. The electrical shock effects the nervous system and causes rapid convulsions of the muscles that will reduce the blood sugar and temporarily demobilize the person it is used on.

One of the very appealing points for stun guns is the fact they come in many shapes and sizes. They range from 80,000 volts all the way up to 1 million volts. On top of that they are available as many common items such as, Cigarette lighters, cell phones, pens, and flashlights.

Tasers:

Another type of electroshock device is known as a taser. A taser is similar to a stun in that uses an electrical current to incapacitate the individual it is used on. The major difference between the two is how it passes that electrical current. A stun gun needs to be used by obtaining direct contact with the assailant where a taser uses two probes attached to wire and normally uses compressed gas to launch at the attacker. Tasers are a most costly solution but are much more effective and safe for the users. The most common deployment of tasers is by law enforcement officers.

Overall most self defense products will help you get the upper hand as long as they are used properly. They do not guarantee that you will be safe but they surely help. When it comes down to it you best defense is to use your head and pay attention to your surroundings and know when something is not right so you can avoid it.
