Avoiding accidents at home

The bathroom is one of the most dangerous places within your home. The bathtub or shower is the normal culprit. Slipping in the bathtub or shower could produce an embarrassing moment, but it could also produce life changing injury or even a fatality. If your bathtub also doubles as a shower, you may want to put a mat in the bottom or even the little stick on butterflies or other patterns that are made to help you keep your footing while in the tub. It may seem silly to you or un-necessary, but once you slip and hurt yourself, it's the wrong time to realize that these items are actually a necessity. Pads are great because you can pull them up after you're done, allowing them to dry out. This makes it so they won't mold, mildew or become difficult to keep clean.
The kitchen is another good place to get yourself hurt. There are plenty of sharp pointy things that are fully capable of making a hole or a cut in your skin should you use them improperly. Knife cuts and burns are the most common injuries to happen in the kitchen. Hot grease can produce a hospital visit inducing burn in very little time. Steam can also cause havoc. If you are cooking or preparing food in any way, it's a good idea to keep your attention on what you're doing so that you don't fricassee your skin or create real time finger foods.

The garage is another wonderful place, full of all sorts of ways to hurt yourself. Garage floors can become slippery with water or oil, causing an unwilling demonstration of the splits. Machines normally dwell within the garage and these machines could cause injury to those not paying attention to what they're doing. Even your car can be a danger if you aren't paying attention.

Electrical stimulation does not mean drying your hair while in the tub, playing with your radio or any other electrical devices while interacting with water. It doesn't mean seeing how many different items you can get plugged into the same outlet all at one time. Playing wrong with electricity can be a shocking experience and if you do it up well enough, you could conceivably find yourself in the hospital explaining it to the attending doctor.

Just like anyplace else in the world, when you're using appliances or sharp objects, working with machinery or dealing with hot items, pay attention. Just because you are at home doesn't guarantee you safety. Always pay attention to the task at hand.
