Guardians of your Will

Submitted by markhincks@live.com

making a will involves you choosing someone to name as a guardian.

When you start making a will, there are a lot of things to think about when it comes to choosing a guardian. This is the person who will be parenting your children when you die, which includes your looking after your child's wellbeing, whether it be health, schooling or anything else. This is just one of many things to consider before you begin making a will and selecting someone to possibly be named as a guardian in your will is usually one of the most important.

Whilst making a will think whether the person you are considering as a guardian is responsible and up to the task of raising your children?
o Is the person a responsible adult, who is ovre 18
o Is the persons home near to the child's current home, this would make sense, or is there a long distance to be relocated to?
o What is the person's home situation? Is the potential guardian in a stable relationship ,with stable economic backing?
o Are the people from the same religious background? This can cause problems.

It is important to discuss it with your choice before making a will because, although most people are flattered, some are unwilling to accept the responsibility or have previously unknown reasons for which they might be unable to take on the role. It is also wise to consider appointing an alternate guardian when making a will.

You can always change or amend the will you have both made at any time as circumstances and the children get older.

About the Author

I have a blog which highlights the importance of Will writing and covers the reasons as to why one should write a Will. It was stated that over 70% of the UK population do not have a Will, therefore i set out to create a source of information online to assist those that do not have a Will and point the reasons as to why you should write a Will.
