Create a Mood with Lighting

Submitted by finehomelamps.krystle

Creating a mood in your home for an event, party, or simply the feel of a room can be created with lighting. Mood lighting has become a popular trend for home owners and interior decorators. The lighting design you use will create a certain mood, and you will need to decide what type of lighting accessories will create the mood you want to be in. You may not realize this at first, but lighting is an element of design. Lighting in the room can make the design warm, cool, active, peaceful, or calm. The types of home lamps you choose to accessorize with enhance the design element of lighting. There are different ways of lighting your home to create the mood you want to be in.

If you are trying to create a lively atmosphere for a party, use color lights and other bright lights. Keeping the room well lit during a party will put people in a good mood, and they'll be more inclined to mingle with different guests. Having light from a lot of different sources throughout the room, such as table lamps, sconces, and floor lamps, will allow the guests to see everyone at the party. A great tip for making the room look like it's sparkling and festive is to use mini-lights in various places. You can string the mini-lights on houseplants or around the bar or entrance table.

On the other hand, if you want to set a more romantic mood for a small dinner party or an evening home with the special someone in your life use very dimmed lighting. It isn't necessary to buy new home lamps to create a romantic mood; you can buy light dimmers for your lamps. Table lamps are perfect for creating this type of mood because they aren't too bright and come in different styles, shapes, and colors. A beautiful lamp with lace or a light pink lamp shade and soft light will give the room a romantic touch. For an even more dim lit room, turn off the lights and use small votive candles. A flickering candle lit room is very romantic. In this case, the lack of light will create a more intimate mood which is perfect for an elegant dinner party or a dinner for two.

Colored lighting can accent the mood of a room, but in your home only use it as an accent for the mood you are creating. For a warm comfortable mood use red tones such as orange or pink and for cool relaxed moods use blue or green hues. When you are decorating a room keep in mind that colors, furniture, accessories, paint choices, and even lighting affect the mood of a room.
