Take Control of Your Garage; Take Control of Your LifeSubmitted by diamondrocket Tue, 27 Jan 2009
Nothing can make life feel more disorganized than a disorganized garage, especially if you park your car in it. Everyday as you come and go you have to step over and pick around piles of stuff that you or someone in your household keeps promising to take care of soon. The stuff can block your car doors creating a nuisance and even possible hazards. It is time to take control of your garage!
Simple shelving can solve a lot of problems. The choices are shelving are various. The different types of shelving addresses needs such as budget, storage arrangement, appearance and size of the stuff you need to store. You can choose from aluminum, steel, diamond plate, metal and more. Aluminum is lightweight and comes in a variety of colors. Diamond plate shelving can be quite striking and lend a showroom quality to your storage. Other options, such as wood or plastic, offer strength and storage arrangement flexibility. Once you have settled on a type of shelving it is time to decide on a plan for your garage. Each section should have a defined purpose. Rakes, hoses and other yard equipment in one section, tools and supplies in another, kid's toys in their corner, your big equipment hobbies in their place, and so on. The reason for this segregation is not only for efficiency but because most of the items in each category require the same sort of storage solutions. For instance, the kids' toys are usually loose, small items like balls, rackets and shoes. These will benefit from closable storage containers such as large plastic bins or prefab storage closets. Yard equipment, on the other hand, can generally be hung with hooks for rakes, shovels and hoses and perhaps a small cabinet for garden chemicals and gloves. A clean and organized garage is not only attractive but it can just make you feel better about your house. Big projects will be easier to tackle when you know where your tools are and your kids will learn responsibility as they keep their section of it in order. About the Author
