The Cure - Dealing with Yeast InfectionsSubmitted by diamondrocket Sat, 8 Nov 2008
Clearing up a yeast infection can be a frustrating process. Besides the discomfort and even pain that an infection causes the cures are sometimes complex, uncomfortable and messy. Besides that one can never really be sure that one cure or another will work this time.
As with many similar conditions the best cure for yeast infections is prevention. Knowing what can cause an infection can reduce the chance for reoccurrence. Yeast infections can result from tight or synthetic closes. The yeast that causes the infection prefers moisture so improper drying or hygiene can increase the chance. Other circumstances include diet, taking antibiotics, diabetes and HIV. Of course some of these are unavoidable and some people are simply prone to infections no matter how much care they take. Medications for yeast infections range from tablets to ointments to vaginal suppositories. Most are available without a prescription. These medications are generally effective and are recommended for women who have repeated infections. However, those who are experiencing their first infection should consult a health-care professional. This must be done to make sure that the condition is in fact a yeast infection and not something more serious like a sexually transmitted disease such as Chlamydia or gonorrhea. A small percentage of women - about five percent - suffer from recurrent yeast infections known as recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis (RVVC). Recurrent in this case means four or more infections a year. Some instances of RVVC occur among diabetics or in women with weak immune systems. But most sufferers of RVVC are otherwise healthy and have no conditions or circumstances that seem to cause recurrent infections. In cases such as these oral medications are generally prescribed. This is usually a two week cycle of medication with a lower dose maintenance medication sometimes lasting up to six months. Antifungal medications, often ointments, are the most common cures for the typical yeast infection. When applied correctly and consistently they can cure the condition in anywhere from a couple of days to two weeks. Women suffering from their first infection or from recurrent or persistent infections should seek the advice of a medical professional. This article was written on behalf of Candid-Yeast.com.
