A Breast Lift Can Mean A New Bra And All The History Behind ItSubmitted by louisfcs Thu, 2 Jul 2009
A lot of different cosmetic surgeries involve changes afterwards, but a breast lift usually involves getting new bras. The history of bras is quite interesting, involving class differences as well as some very creative clothing engineering. As you shop for new bras, it's interesting to think of all the different roads that clothing has travelled on to get to our modern designs.
Way back in the 1400s B.C. the Minoan civilization had a number of athletic competitions. Images have been found of female athletes wearing bikini like tops, both under their clothes as well as outside. The purpose of the bras in those days was to support, and coverage and modesty were not considered during the design of the garments. The Minoans' version of a breast lift was their bra, which simply pushed the breasts up above the clothing. During the Ming Dynasty in China, rich woman wore a cloth around their chest with cups and straps drawn over the shoulder then attached to a strip tied around their waist. However, by the 1500s, the corset had become the standard undergarment for wealthy women. At times women with issues with posture or bad backs used iron corsets which were heavily padded. 300 years later the corset was split in two parts with a girdle type bottom that had restraint as its main function, with an upper part that suspended the breasts from the upper shoulder. Undergarments became closer to contemporary bras around the early 1900s. It wasn't until the 1930 that commercial production began on bras and once they became available to women on a mass scale the number of options increased dramatically. Since then bras have replaced corsets and become a multi billion dollar industry. Fashion has become a factor in bras and there are countless styles and colors to choose from as well as a range of sizes and designs that cover every woman's unique size and shape. When you're shopping for bras after your breast lift, it's fun to imagine the changes that have occurred in design in the last 3000 years. From push up but not cover bras in the Minoan age to iron corsets that needed to be padded in order to be worn, modern designs and styles are more diverse and comfortable than ever. About the Author
