It's almost summer, and rising temperatures aren't the only reason some women are sweating.

According to a study in Fitness Magazine, 50 percent of women have turned down invitations that required wearing a swimsuit, and 45 percent would never walk around the beach or pool without covering up first, according to the study. Fitness, in partnership with Lands' End, polled 500 women, ages 18-49, to understand how women's behavior, anxiety level, and self-confidence are affected when wearing a swimsuit. The results point to a discouraging trend.

Concurrently, breast augmentation overtook liposuction for the first time in recent history as the most popular cosmetic surgical procedure, according to the 2008 statistics from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). In 2008, there were 355,671 breast augmentation surgeries performed in the United States, compared with 341,144 liposuction procedures.

It's a disturbing trend, according to Dr. Sherrill Sellman (www.whatwomenmustknow.com), a naturopath and author who specializes in women's health issues.

"It's bad enough that the media encourages the national obsession with a woman's bra size, but to know that hundreds or thousands of women every year are having risky elective surgery because of that cultural eccentricity is alarming," said Dr. Sellman. "According to the National Institute of Medicine, 25 to 40 percent of people who get breast implants end up needing another operation to correct something wrong with the first one, adding to that risk. It's unconscionable."

Dr. Sellman said that the secrets to natural breast enhancement reside in either fat deposits or the lobes that regulate lactation. The woman's breast is mostly made up of breast (connective) tissue, fat, lobes (milk glands) and ducts, she explained. Breast tissue and ducts do not change after puberty.

"Up to now, women wanting breast enhancement could increase the breast volume by surgical implants or by increasing body fat, which for some women, (if their body stores most of the fat in the breasts) may increase the fat in the breast and increase breast size," she said. "If their body stores most fat in the hips or evenly throughout then the increase may not be as noticeable. Naturally exercise works against these products because it burns fat away."

She added that new methods of breast enhancement now take advantage of the lobes' ability to increase breasts size by activating the milk glands.

"Mother Nature made breasts on women and all other female mammals to feed its infants," she said. "During pregnancy the lobes grow and get ready to produce milk, but usually it isn't until the baby is born and milk is being demanded that milk production occurs. This natural phenomenon has been dissected and it has been determined how to mimic it without having to get pregnant, without using pills, hormones, creams or surgery."

One such process that Dr. Sellman feels is safe and effective is the Grow Yours system (www.growyours.com) which focuses on exercises that stimulate the lobes to grow in the same way they grow during pregnancy, without actually lactating.

"The process works best and fastest on women who have been previously pregnant, and has been proven in private testing to produce results of bustline increases of two inches or more," she said. "Since the process does not involve fat retention, women can exercise all they want. Exercising promotes a healthier lifestyle and can flatten the tummy which usually makes the breasts stand out even more."

--
Sherrill Sellman, N.D. is an educator, women's natural health expert, and journalist in the field of women's health. She is also a Naturopathic Doctor, a much sought after international lecturer, radio host, senior editor and contributing writer to numerous health publications.
Will Women Use Microbicides?

When it comes to protecting oneself from sexually transmitted disease, especially from HIV, you would imagine that if one was fully educated in all the various ways of protection, they would do everything in their power to use whatever combinations of protection they could. Unfortunately, this is not always the case, even with those sexually active who are knowledgeable about protection. Findings from a study done by researchers at Brown University and The Miriam Hospital show those women who are not in monogamous relationships but who are sexually active and have used protection in the past are those candidates more likely to use microbicides. Microbicides are any substances that are applied to help prevent the spreading of a virus (in this case, a gel used to prevent HIV infection). At this date, there are no microbicides on the market that have been proven to prevent HIV although many have been created and are going through the process of clinical trials.

Lead researcher Kathleen Morrow states that while the findings may seem obvious, "they are important because science has very little direct evidence of what characteristics and situations in women's lives would make them more likely to want to use a microbicide to prevent HIV infection." She goes on to say that even if a microbicide was proven to be effective in preventing HIV infection, if a woman felt that it diminished the sexual experience or was too difficult to use, that woman would choose not to use it, despite the obvious benefits. Along with Morrow, researchers devised a scale called "Willingness to Use Microbicides." This scale was a questionnaire which was administered to over 500 women hailing from New York, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Massachusetts. These women were all between the ages of 18 and 55, not currently pregnant, not infected with HIV (or status unknown) and sexually active within the year. Examples of questions include whether or not the woman would consider purchasing the Trojan Vibrating Touch fingertip massager and whether or not a woman would buy a microbicide if its cost was comparable to that of a condom. Many variables were considered including household income, race, condom and spermicide usage and number of partners, to name a few.

The study showed those women who frequently used condoms and/or spermicide in the past as well as those women who did not have one single partner were more likely to use the microbicide, if available. Morrow states, "How a woman defines or labels her sexual partnership appears to have an impact on her decision-making process with regard to protecting herself from HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases." The researchers made an interesting observation that many women who were currently in monogamous relationships did not perceive a need to use extra protection; however, it is a known fact that around the world, women who contract HIV are more likely to get it from the man they feel is their monogamous sexual partner (in most cases, a husband). Because of this, Morrow suggests that it is crucial all women, including those women who are in "monogamous" relationships, be educated on the different prevention methods they can use. Morrow and her colleagues wish to further refine the study to include more variables as well as a more diverse and global study base.

--
CondomMan.com is a leading online retailer of condoms, selling name brand condoms like Durex, Astroglide Strawberry, Lifestyles and Crown condoms for the best prices online.
Natural Cellulite Remedies - Ingredients in U.S. Patent 7,476,392

Patent Background

Cellulite removal methods using herbs and their principle ingredients are often patented. One of the most recent patents is #7,476,392, "Pharmaceutical and/or cosmetic compositions for the treatment of localised adiposities and cellulite." The inventor is Francesco Di Pierro of Milan, Italy. The patent was awarded on January 13, 2009, to a company by the name of Indena S.p.A. of Milan, Italy.

Indena is a privately owned Italian company that has around 700 employees, including 10% dedicated to full-time research. The company manages cultivation, manufacturing, and distribution operations in more than 40 countries throughout the world. According to their website, Indena's key to success is its research, covering: the screening of medicinal plants for their pharmacological benefits; the identification of new active principles; and the development of extraction and purification systems at the cutting-edge of industrial application.

The reason that I point out the origin of this patent is to emphasize how important natural cellulite removal methods are around the world. Indena holds numerous patents in Europe, and U.S. Patent 7,476,392 shows how serious this company is about doing business in the U.S.

Herbs and Their Principle Ingredients

The herbs and their principle ingredients are summarized in the patent abstract as follows:

"The present invention relates to pharmaceutical and/or cosmetic compositions containing a combination of the following active principles: a) complex of escin/beta-sitosterol with phospholipids, b) complex of Gingko biloba dimeric flavonoids with phospholipids, c) complex of Centella asiatica triterpenes with phospholipids, and optionally one or both of: d) ethyl ximeninate, e) Coleus forskolii standardized extract."

(Sidenote: You are correct if you noticed that Ginkgo is misspelled. This is a common mistake. I don't know why the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office missed it.)

Patent Claims for Each Component

The purpose of this article is to highlight what each of the components of the patent is and what it is supposed to do, as claimed in the patent.

Escin is a saponin contained in horse-chestnut seeds. It is works to strengthen capillary walls, which is useful in the treatment of swelling due to localized adiposities (i.e., fat) that lead to cellulite. The combination of escin with beta-sitosterol and phospholipids enhances bioavailability of escin and shows a more prolonged release of its activity.

Ginkgo biloba flavonoids are well-known for their ability to help improve vascular flow. They also influence certain enzymes that help the metabolism of stored fat. The complex of these ingredients with phospholipids prolongs their action and increases their bioavailability.

Centella asiatica triterpenes have a beneficial action on the production of normal collagen. The effect of this action is to reduce the formation of abnormal collagen that leads to cellulite. Phospholipids again act to prolong and enhance the action of Centella triterpenes.

Ethyl ximeninate is the main active ingredient of the herb, Olax dissitiflora. This substance is known to have a ‘vasokinetic' activity, which just means that it helps the vascular system.

Coleus forskolii extract contains a nutrient called forskolin. This substance has a specific ability to stimulate enzyme activity that causes the breakdown of fat and encourages blood flow through capillaries. (By the way, this is why forskolin is so often included in weight loss mixtures as well.)

What Does This Mean for You?

This patent shows the benefits of a particular herbal composition for helping your body reduce cellulite. It also underscores the importance of herbs as one of the best components of a total program of cellulite removal methods.

Since the patent holder, Indena, is not a retail company, you will not find products on the shelf with their brand. You will instead find products that contain the mixture that is described in this patent, under brand names of the companies who have either purchased Indena's pre-mixed extracts or licensed the patent to make their own. Either way, it will take some detective work on your part to read labels on a number of products until you find a ‘proprietary blend' or a ‘patented formula' that resembles the mixture in this patent.

What Else Can You Do?

My bias as a retired university professor is the value of continuing education on cellulite patents and research. You can either look up and analyze patents as I do, or you can find a trusted scientist to do this for you. Likewise, you can do the same regarding the scientific research literature. Once you find the best science on cellulite, then your challenge is to find the retail products that are based on that science.

Plenty of excellent information is available on the real science behind natural cellulite remedies. This information is, unfortunately, too often swamped by a vast amount of myth and misinformation that undermines your chance of finding something that works against cellulite. You have almost no chance of finding something, based on real science, that truly helps you reduce cellulite on your own.

If you are not a scientist yourself, you really must find one whom you can trust to provide good information for you.

--
Dr. Dennis Clark, PhD, is a retired research scientist and university professor with more than 30 years of experience in plant biochemistry and human health. He has published several books and dozens of scientific research articles and lectured at national and international conferences. He enjoys teaching, speaking, and writing about the science behind natural approaches to health. Dr. Clark is currently a co-owner, with his wife Eve, of Doctors Nutrition Center in Tempe, AZ. He offers his views of the the science behind cellulite at Natural Cellulite Remedies.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

There are some health troubles that women must be careful of. One of the biggest that looks to be impacting increasingly each day is endometriosis. This health condition is caused when endometrial cells begin to produce on the external portions of the uterus instead of along the interior. These cells are the identical ones that are expelled from the woman's body every month during the menstrual cycle.

Physicians and their patients have the ability to diagnose endometriosis in numerous ways. One of the things that tips women off to what they have is the extensive pain located in their pelvic that they will experience. Their doctor will schedule an appointment and exam. During which they will attempt to acquire the cells and find where they are settled.

A rectovaginal exam grants the doctor to try to feel for any endometrial implants that can be placed in back of the uterus or on top of the ligaments that are joined to the pelvic wall. Even though they may not discover the nodules this way they do not rule the condition out. Oftimes a good indication that they have this condition is when the person experiences immense pain during the exam though they did not find anything.

Nevertheless, these endometriosis symptoms and exam alone are not enough to make a definitive diagnosis. This is when the physician will decide to use an ultrasound machine to attempt to dismiss the potential problem of other pelvic problems. It might also assist to recognize endometrial cells that are on the bladder or vagina areas.

The most correct endometriosis diagnosis is the use of a visual review of the interior of the pelvis and abdomen through the use of a tissue biopsy of the implants. This is completed through surgery. The doctor will open the stomach through a large or small incision. They will then gather tissue samples and examine them under the microscope to determine what they are.

--
It is important to know the Symptoms Of Endometriosis and the best way to Treat Endometriosis.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Yeast infections are a very common and most women, about 70% of them, will get a yeast infection at least once intheir lifetimes. And some of these women will get recurring yeast infections. Women usually do not get yeast infections from sex. Instead, a weakened immune system is the most common cause of yeast infections.

A yeast infection is an overgrowth of yeast in your vagina, leading to uncomfortable symptoms such as: itching and burning in and around your vagina burning sensation when urinating (peeing) vaginal pain or discomfort during sex vaginal discharge that may look like cottage cheese (it may also be thinner or absent). Although a yeast infection is not a sexually transmitted disease, it is possible to pass it back and forth between sexual partners.

Yeast is commonly present on normal human skin and in areas of moisture, such as the mouth and vagina. Yeast normally live in the vagina in small numbers, but when the bacteria in the vagina become out of balance, too many yeast grow and cause an infection. Yeast infections can cause severe discomfort but rarely cause serious health problems.

Yeast infection causes include:

Using medications that contain steroids;
Using antibiotics;
Being diabetic or having elevated blood sugar levels;
Using the birth control pill or another form of hormonal contraception;
Hormonal changes due to menstrual cycle or pregnancy;
Frequently wearing tight pants or pantyhose...

A mild vaginal yeast infection may correct itself without treatment. However, you are not likely to be able to go without treatment if you develop severe symptoms. Thankfully, treatment is readily available, both over-the-counter solutions as well as alternative, drug-free treatments. Perhaps the greatest risks you face when treating a vaginal yeast infection are related to self-diagnosis and self-treatment. Providing that you have had a diagnosed yeast infection before, correctly diagnose your condition based on past symptoms, and self-treat with a nonprescription treatment as directed, your risks are minimal.

Medications for yeast infections consists of creams and suppositories, both sold over the counter as well as oral medications, which require a prescription. The medical treatment of yeast infection centre around medications that slow the growth of the yeast. While there are many over-the-counter medications available, it is important to have a proper diagnosis of a yeast infection before you start using these strong medications, especially if this is your first yeast infection.

If you had a yeast infection before and are sure it is the same infection again, it is safe to use over-the-counter antifungal medications. While medications can destroy a particular infection, they don't prevent future infections. If over the counter medications seem to temporarily relieve your infection, but the infection quickly returns, you may be a victim of a chronic yeast infection.

--
A mild vaginal yeast infection may correct itself without treatment.
Bladder Control Problems Are Not Natural At Any Age

As the ads for adult urinary pads discretely imply, bladder control problems are uncomfortable and potentially embarrassing, unfortunately, bladder symptoms are very common in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). Some women have bladder control problems after they stophaving periods (menopause or change of life).

Among women who did speak with their doctor, stress-related symptoms were described more readily than urge-related symptoms. Among women in the focus groups who had discussed their bladder problems with their doctor, there was a tendency to understate the degree and impact of their symptoms, as well as a tendency to describe stress-related incontinence symptoms and fail to mention urge-related incontinence symptoms.

Incontinent women (wet group) were more likely than non-incontinent women (dry group) to feel strongly that they would seek prescription medication and take it if they knew it could control their symptoms. In many individuals, the symptoms of OAB are pervasive, compromising quality of life and requiring lifestyle changes.

Overactive Bladder

Overactive bladder is a common health problem that affects millions of men and women. Other conservative treatment options your health care provider may suggest include vaginal weight training, biofeedback and electrical stimulation.

Professionals who can help you with bladder control include:

Your primary care doctor;
A gynecologist (a doctor who specializes in women's health care)
A urogynecologist (an expert in women's bladder problems)
A urologist (an expert in bladder problems)
A nurse or nurse practitioner
A physical therapist.

Symptoms Of A Bladder Infection

Symptoms can be imperceptible and emerging as weakness or deterioration of the general condition. Symptoms of a bladder infection may include going to the bathroom frequently, passing blood in the urine, cloudy and odorous urine, increased spasticity in the lower extremities, fever and chills.

However, despite having lived with the symptoms of bladder control problems for an average of six years, less than half of those affected have approached a health professional for help, according to recent research.

Bladder Infection Treatments

Treatment depends on the type of incontinence you have, your age, medical history, and how you choose to proceed. Treatment plans to resolve the medical issues have to be implemented before the urinary leakage problem can be resolved. In the course of following the patient over time, it is valuable to determine not only if the patient has improved with the choice of treatment, but also if the patient is satisfied with the degree of bladder control that has been achieved. Fortunately, there are a number of treatment options that can help restore quality of life for people with bladder control problems.

--
Good bladder control allows women to lead a fully active life. Flotrol is a proven safe and natural product which can promote bladder health. Read more about Bladder Control Problems

Women Are More Likely To Have Bladder Infections

Women are more likely to have bladder infections than men because their urethra is shorter. All bladder infections are considered complicated when they affect men, because the long male urethra should prevent bacteria from getting into the bladder. You can not get a urinary tract infection from someone else, although females who are just becoming sexually active often get UTIs.

When bacteria get into the bladder and multiply in the urine, it causes a urinary tract infection. The most common type of UTI is a bladder infection, which is also often called cystitis. This kind of infection can be serious, but if treated quickly the kidney is most often not damaged permanently. Some females get urinary tract infections more frequently, this may be because of the differences in the shape and length of the urethra in different people.

Bladder infection is most common among women, during pregnancy there will more stress and infection in the urinary track or bladder, because during pregnancy 50% of blood volume is increased so kidney is the in charge of cleaning the blood.

Symptoms Of A Bladder Infection

Possible symptoms of a bladder infection include: urinating more often feeling an urgent need to urinate a burning, stinging, or pressure sensation during urination a crampy pain or discomfort in the lower abdomen just above the pubic bone or sometimes in the lower backa need to urinate more often in the night cloudy urine that smells bad blood in the urine leaking of urine fever and occasionally chills.

Increasing the intake of fluids (64 to 128 ounces per day) encourages frequent urination that flushes bacteria from the bladder. Drinking cranberry juice prevents certain types of bacteria from attaching to the wall of the bladder and may lessen the chance of infection.

Prevent Bladder Infections

If you have any symptoms of a urinary tract infection, you'll need to go to a health care professional right away. The sooner you contact your health care provider, the sooner you'll be able to clear up the infection.

Your health care provider will prescribe an antibiotic to kill bacteria and prevent the spread of infection to your kidneys. Antibiotics can kill the good bacteria that normally live on the skin of the genital area. It takes about 48 hours to get results from a urine culture, so you may have to switch antibiotics depending on the results. Although antibiotics begin fighting the infection right away, they can't stop all the symptoms right away.

I If you have a lot of pain, your health care provider may recommend a medication to relieve the pain in your bladder, This medicine will clear up the painful symptoms in about 3 days, although it will usually make you much more comfortable within hours.

Preventive Measures

Preventive measures may reduce symptoms and prevent recurrence of infection. To prevent frequent bladder infections, always drink plenty of water and cranberry juice. Cranberry juice also has been shown to have positive effects on UTIs. Make sure the cranberry juice is 100% juice, many brands are now 100% cranberry.

Drinking cranberry juice prevents certain types of bacteria from attaching to the wall of the bladder and may lessen the chance of infection. If pure cranberry juice is not available, cranberry capsules can be substituted. We recommend cranberry capsules, up to nine a day, since cranberry juice often has lots of sugar or honey in it.

If a bladder infection is left untreated, the bacteria may ascend up the urethra to the kidneys.

Menopause and Depression
by Kenneth L. Meyer

One of the key indicators regarding the onset of menopause are mood swings. In addition, we are learning that due to

the changes women (and Men as well) go through during the menopausal passage, depression is often a by product.

Let's make sure we can identify depression.

Depression is a mental health ailment that can affect the way you eat and sleep, the way you feel about yourself,

and the way you think about everything. A depressive disorder is more than a passing mood. Be sure of this it is not a sign of personal

frailty, and it cannot be willed or wished away.

A depressive disorder involves the body, mood, and thoughts. People who are depressed cannot "snap out of it" and

get better. Without treatment, symptoms can last for months or years. Treatments such as antidepressant medications

and psychiatric help can reduce and sometimes terminate the symptoms of depression.

Here are some warning signs of depression:

Depression

* Persistent sad, anxious, or "empty" mood
* Feelings of hopelessness, pessimism
* Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, helplessness
* Loss of interest or pleasure in hobbies and activities that were once enjoyed, including sex
* Decreased energy, fatigue, being "slowed down"
* Difficulty concentrating, remembering, making decisions
* Insomnia, early morning awakening, or over sleeping
* Appetite and/or weight loss or overeating and weight gain
* Thoughts of death or suicide; suicide attempts
* Restlessness, irritability
* Persistent physical symptoms that do not respond to treatment, such as headaches, digestive disorders, and

chronic pain

Associating Menopause and Depression Together

1. Menopausal Women Frequently Become Depressed

The drastic hormonal one-sideness that can occur in pre menopuse can create noticeable mood swings.

Many women are not aware that it is the hormonial imbalance bringing about the mood swings so they won't present themselves

for a solution and the mood swings lead to depression.

The hormonal imbalance causes extreme mood swings which if left untreated will develop into depression. This is why

treatments like hormonal replacement therapy actually help in checking mood swings and depression episodes.

2. No Previous History of Depression Is Needed or Found

Many, many times women who become depressed in pre-menopause had no previous history of depression.

There have been a number of research reports on women who are going through the menopausal stage, with specific

emphasis on the cause and treatment of depression. It has been found in most of the studies that women who had no

previous history of moodiness and/or depression develop this as they become pre-menopausal. This is further

goaded by the fact that women themselves tend to ignore the connection between the onset of menopause and

depression, and do not look for expert help.

Because of having no prior prior experience of depression many pre-menopausal women and men will ignore the depression they are

going through and the business worsens because they are not dealilng with the cause.

3. Quality of Life Suffers

Most of the time when a pre-menopausal women (or man) suffers symptoms and episodes of depression it worsens and they can not

only acquire mood swing symptoms and behavior but can suffer from grave migranes.

When all the symptoms and behaviors are aggregated together it can strain most of the relationships pre-menopasal women

are in and spectacurarly worsen their brillance of life. In addition, it becomes more difficult for those living with the

women (or man!!)to understand and deal with the depression/menopausal behavior and numerous relaitonships end at this point.

4. Two Pronged Approach For Healing

In the first place, changing the eating habits in pre-menopause and menopause to one of more soy route can help to reduce the mood

swings and degree of depression...let's say it together, we are what we eat.

Secondly, hormone replacement remedy, when properly sustained, can also diminish the severity of depression and mood

swing symptoms.

By comprehending that depression can be in some women an almost automatic result of being pre-menopausal, women can

find aid not only for some symptoms but family relationships can be enhanced during this time.

Depression really is one of the more serious maladys of out age.

--
Menopause and depression are affecting millions of Americans of both genders!
