Porcelain Veneers Versus Composite Material Veneers

Submitted by IC

When it comes to cosmetic dentistry and restorative procedures dental Veneers are one of the tools that are used most frequently used by dentists in order to repair cracked or worn out teeth. The nearest have many uses and can be applied in many ways but there are two main types of materials that are used in the fabrication of dental Veneers, a patient who will undergo a reconstructive dental procedure should be aware of the two in order to make an educated decision.

Let's first define what a veneer is; people who want to have a beautiful smile don't often have their teeth in the best condition, a beautiful smile is required whenever a major social event comes across, that may be a graduation, a wedding or any other social event, at any rate having a beautiful smile can be a person's highlight or it can also represent a social demise. Dental Veneers have been designed in order to reshape teeth which have been worn out because of age or have imperfections in them such as odd shapes and gaps between the pieces.

Thin shells are applied to a tooth after a layer of Enamel has been removed in order to provide the right setting and base for the new layer which will be put in place by the dentist, this new layer is called a veneer. These shells are made of composite materials or even porcelain, of the two materials be more convenient to work with for the dentist is obviously the composite material because this type of Veneers can be fabricated inside of the persons mouth, porcelain Veneers on the other hand it to be fabricated at a dental laboratory by a technician and only then they can be put in place by the dentist. The advantages of porcelain Veneers is that they last longer and tend to be more durable than their counterparts, but because of disadvantages there are also more pricey.

While this is a very popular method to restore a beautiful smile not everyone is actually a good candidate for dental Veneers, this means that if a person has teeth which are in good shape and are functional but need a little bit of whitening and straightening then the dentist will obviously recommend the easier and better solution which is to apply some sort of orthodontic procedure (braces) and then use a teeth whitening method to complete the job. The dentist will never recommend the use of Veneers to patients who have discolored teeth that are in good functional condition this up because the process involved in the application of a veneer requires for the shape of the tooth to be permanently altered which is again not a good idea if they are in good shape.
