Don't Spoil Your Spring and Summer by Not Being PrepareSubmitted by Johnkad Mon, 27 Apr 2009
Accidents occur all year round and a responsible person or family should own some form of first aid equipment anyway but it's getting to that time of year where owning a suitable first aid kit or components is especially important.
With the finer weather comes and increase in home leisure and activity based injuries. People are more inclined to finish off those outstanding DIY jobs, do some work in the garden, go out and about and participate in sports and other leisure related activities. Accidents and injuries can easily occur when taking part in anyone of these pastimes and clearly do judging by national statistics. Although the statistics collated by the Home and Leisure Accident Surveillance System (HLASS) have not been updated since 2002 (due to withdrawal of funding by the DTI), we can safely and quite accurately assume that the numbers would not have changed that much and if they have at all, would have increased over time. Various other reports indicate that accident levels would have remained broadly the same with a slight increase year on year The survey in that year revealed that there were approximately 7 million minor injuries suffered in the home or sustained during leisure activities that resulted in visits to accident and emergency departments. The numbers or accidents and injuries that were not reported or treated by professionals cannot be truly or even roughly quantified. So, what type of first aid items or equipment should one have? As with everything, it depends on the needs of the person or family. What would the first aid kit or products be required for? For instance, for use in the home or on camping trips? What type of injuries would it likely be used on, children's cuts and grazes or DIY injuries? All of these things need to be considered before stocking up on a range of first aid products or a comprehensive first aid kit A simple needs assessment based around similar questions to the above will often suffice. Adequate first aid provision can be anything depending on your requirements and first aid kits can easily be tailored by removing or adding other key items. A good place to look into first aid kits and general first aid equipment is on the internet. There are some fantastic resources available online and some great specialised online suppliers of first aid equipment. A good information source and probably the leading online retailer of first aid equipment and kits is the First Aid Warehouse. Researching and buying online allows for a more informed decision to be made and with First Aid Warehouse, is often more cost effective than buying on the high street. Enjoy the spring and the summer and all of the fabulous and fun activities and opportunities that this time of year brings but be sure to keep safety in mind. Try to avoid accidents and be prepared for them if and when they do occur. A happy spring and summer is an injury free spring and summer! About the AuthorSource: ArticleTrader.com ![]() Comments
