Many people will experience some form of depression in their lifetime. Depression can range anywhere from mild and short-term to very severe and debilitating. If you feel yourself suffering from any type of depression, the most important thing you can do is to seek help

There are several different types of depression. Major depression is the most severe type. The symptoms are debilitating and the sufferer will often deal with it throughout their lifetime. Another type of depression is called dysthymia. Its symptoms are not as severe as with major depression, but it can last for years. Manic-depression or bipolar disorder is another type of depression. The person with manic-depression swings from highs or manic states to lows or depressive states.

Major depression

Major depression affects all facets of the person’s life. It can be the result of a stressful experience or it can be an accumulation of many stressful events and can last for many years. It is more common among women than men. Symptoms can include a constant sad mood, feelings of hopelessness, problems with sleeping, and loss of interest in food. Feelings of worthlessness are pervasive. Treatment often includes talk therapy, medications, and in some cases, electric shock therapy.

Dysthymia

Dysthymia is a chronic type of depression but the symptoms are less severe than with major depression. A person suffering from dysthymia will still be able to function, and hold down a job, but may not feel quite right. It is a type of a low level, constant depression. It affects more women than men. The causes are not known, but may be related to a chemical imbalance in the brain. Symptoms include a loss of interest in activities that one used to find enjoyable, and a negative outlook. Treatment is usually in the form of talk therapy and medications only if needed.

Bipolar disorder

With bipolar disorder or manic depression, the person swings between excessively high emotions and excessively low emotions. During the low periods, the person may experience loss of interest in food, difficulty sleeping and low self-esteem. During the high periods they will experience a high level of energy, a short attention span and sleep very little. It affects as many men as it does women. The cause of bipolar disorder is unknown. It may be a chemical imbalance in the brain, genetics or environment. Medication is often used in treatment of bipolar disorder.

Seek help

Depression in one form or another is a very common illness. It can keep people from leading normal healthy lives. It can destroy families, careers and self-esteem. It is more than just feeling “blue” every once in a while. If you feel you are suffering from depression and it is interrupting your family life or your work life, you need to seek the help of a qualified mental health professional.

To find a qualified therapist, you can start by consulting your health insurance company for a list of providers. You can also ask your clergy person, or family doctor for a referral. If you are employed, check to see if your employer has some type of referral network. If you feel you are suffering from some type of depression, the best thing you can do for yourself and your family is to seek help.

--
Kevin Kielty lives in North Carolina and writes articles on health insurance.
Your stomach pH acid level should be 1.0 to 3.0 so that it can properly digest or break apart meat into it amino acids. Any thing that disturbs these pH levels also affects the absorption of amino acids in your stomach.

Here's how the stomach creates the acid to digest protein. The main digestive enzyme that breaks apart meat is call pepsin. There are certain stomach lining cells called "chief cells" that secrete pepsinogen. This pepsinogen is converted to pepsin with the help of HCl or stomach acid.

As your stomach acid pH increases, the amount of pepsin you create decreases. When your stomach pH is higher than 5.0, no pepsin is created. You have difficulty digesting protein.

Antacids and pharmaceutical drugs increase stomach pH and decrease the creation of pepsin.

HCl is secreted from stomach lining cells called "parietal cells." These cells have a way of secreting HCl acid through a so called "proton pump." Many drugs are designed to shut down these "proton pumps", which result in less stomach acid. Less stomach acid creates less pepsin.

Less pepsin in the stomach digests less protein in the stomach. And, any meat or protein source you eat does not breakdown into specific absorbable amino acids that you need to prevent depression.

The amino acids tryptophan, phenylalanine, tyrosine and other amino acids are needed to produce the neurotransmitters "serotonin and "norepinephrine." Neurotransmitters are chemical impulses that brain cells uses to communicate between each other. Lack of these neurotransmitters has been associated with depression and other emotional illness.

Antidepressant drugs, such as Prozac, Serzone, or Zoloft raise the level of serotonin giving you a feeling of well-being.

In Doctor Jonathan V. Wright, who wrote, "Why Stomach Acid Is Good For You", practice, he found that when he tested and found people who had low blood levels of amino acids and had depression, taking amino acids help relieve depression in 50% of his cases. Ant depressive drugs have a history of 50% effectiveness.

What all this means is, if you have depression, you can experiment with a self-cure by taking digestive enzymes, which contain HCl acid and pepsin, during meals. In addition, if you are taking antacids or heartburn drugs, back off from using them but consult with your doctor before doing this. This will help you digest and breakdown protein in their individual amino acids.

The result of this is to provide your intestines with absorbable amino acids that will help to cure and prevent depression.

--
Rudy Silva is nutritionist that specializes in using natural remedies for better health. It more often happens after the child is born. During this time their hormones are everywhere and can increase their emotions. They are also trying to take in all of the changes in their life. There are rare cases of postpartum psychosis - which is a more severe form of this type of depression.

New moms should not feel ashamed if they have postpartum depression. It is just a time of adjustment for them. To work through it they only need to learn to deal with the symptoms of it.

Postpartum Depression Symptoms

Symptoms of postpartum depression can be very intense for some women and they can last for a few weeks to a few months. There are different emotional, lifestyle, and physically changes that are attributed to it.

Emotional Changes - When women are overwhelmed and deprived of hours of sleep they will become more irritable and will have trouble dealing with even the smallest problems. This will make them that much more worried about their ability to take care of their child. At the same time they are trying to deal with the fact that they feel they have lost sight of who they are.

Lifestyle Changes - Some women are not prepared to care for a new baby and do not expect the time and energy that they need every day.
In today’s hectic world of fast paced living and competitive work arena, it’s no longer a wonder that a lot of people suffer from the negative effects of depression, anxiety, and stress. These three issues have seemed to become a part of daily life for millions of people around the world –every day they deal with shallow breathing, rapid heartbeats, and the “feeling” of suffocation from the “choking fog” that surrounds them all through their normal daily activities.

Let’s take a closer look at what depression, anxiety, and stress really are, and what they do to the body. Depression is that emotion of being hopeless, “down”, or losing interest in doing things or activities. It may last for a short time such as several weeks, or last longer like months or even years; it may be triggered by significant events or biological reasons. It may disrupt one’s family life, as well as lead to alcohol and drug abuse, and affect one’s ability to work.

Anxiety disorders on the other hand, are disorders that entail apprehension and fear about future happenings. This can result to excessive worrying and can disrupt the life of a person –irritability, fatigue, restlessness, muscle tension, and impaired sleep and concentration.

Stress is the body’s reaction to events that confront it; on the whole, stress can be connected with anxiety and depression at times. When depression, anxiety, and stress unite overwhelmingly, it becomes a form of overstress. Overstress will take its toll on the body, both physically and mentally, and so it is essential that one takes action to manage overstress.

Depression, anxiety, and stress management is an important step to reducing or eradicating the negative effects that these three factors can give the body. There are various options for depression, anxiety, and stress management, and its effectiveness will depend on what works best for the individual’s need. Generally, the aim of depression, anxiety, and stress management, is to lessen the pressure load, help the individual to cope with their depression, anxiety, and stress, at the same time as helping the person get back to being “healthy” again.

Some helpful tips for reducing one’s pressure load includes: lessening the “pace of change” in one’s life; reducing school or work obligations; diminishing social obligations; saying “no” more often; reducing environmental toxins; postponing changes in one’s living situation; and eliminating possible environmental or food allergens. Keep in mind that the initial step to an effective depression, anxiety, and stress management is taking action before it starts to “take action on you”.

Get more information about Motivational and NLP Hypnosis at AllContent.com.

--
Lucile Taylor is a contributor for AllContent.com.
Depression is a medical mental illness that affects more than 17 million Americans each year. Depression takes on many different forms. Without treatment depression progresses from mild depression to major depression. When it becomes major depression then suicide is a real concern. The real problem is that most Americans do not want to confront their depression. They avoid visiting doctors because they don't want to be categorized as nuts. People would rather be considered “normal” than admit they suffer.

Nothing could be further from the truth. It is considered today that depression is a mental illness that's real. It is seen as another disease, like cancer or heart disease. As hopeless as depression seems, there are treatments to cure it. There are options for those who suffer this unfortunate illness. The catch is you have to seek the cure. You have to identify the symptoms and then address the issue. This illness won't just disappear one day. It requires treatment. Different causes contribute to depression. We know that stress; biological, genetic, emotional and environmental issues are consistent with the depression disorder.

There are many types of treatment for depression. Prescribed treatments, such as anti-depressant medications, work well. The effects of depression can also be controlled with natural herbs. Medical professionals can also treat the illness with talk therapy. One of the more popular treatments is the participation in a depression support group. Depression support therapy with a group allows people to talk through their issues with others. They get to associate and learn from those who suffer from the same illness.

Depression support group participation is becoming more popular. The draw- backs are that some are very shy about their affliction. Even though everyone has the same problem, this type of person can't face others. The opportunity, however, for a lot of people is a great chance to release hidden away emotions by talking about them in a group setting. The more others share, the more you tend to share. No depression sufferer is alone in this. If you or someone you love is suffering from depression please consider a depression support group as a method of assisting you with your illness.

--
I hope this information will help.
Chronic Depression is also known as Dysthymia. This illness can be serious although not as severe as bouts with Major Depression. Someone who knows you may have chronic depression, but you have no idea. Typically someone with this illness can live a regular life. It's not unusual for them to continue everyday activities such as attending school or having a social life without great difficulties. This is due to the fact that the scars caused by this illness do not appear on the outside of the body but on the inside. But both physical and mental effects result.

Chronic Depression will not make you cough, sneeze or run a fever. A rash won't break out on your body. However, a victim of this illness may feel helplessness, worthlessness and hopelessness. Sleeping disorders such as nightmares and insomnia may develop. The disease can leave the victim with a constant sad or empty feeling that consumes them . Usually those affected by the disease may also experience episodes of thinking about death or suicide . Chronic Depression isn't always apparent.

With mental illness it requires a close look and a lot of experience to recognize the symptoms because victims work hard to conceal the problem. When you are approaching an illness such as Chronic Depression there are a few major options for treatment. Psychotherapy, attacking a mental illness with a mental solution, is one of the more popular approaches.

The patient can find a positive outlook, with Psychotherapy, with the help of a doctor who attempts to determine the cause of the depression. Anti-Depressants that help to stem the spread or worsening of the condition are another option. Both Psychotherapy and drugs are generally combined to treat chronic depression. The patient may not yet have Major Depression, but Chronic Depression can lead there. Therefore, as in with any illness, early detection of the illness cannot be underestimated.

When Chronic Depression cause problems in day to day life, it has become a problem. It's really time to act when employment or other outside activities begin to suffer. Chronic Depression doesn't mean people afflicted are ready for the funny farm. They have problems that need to be addressed and approached with care and support. Anyone can become a victim of this disease. Having knowledge about it may one day assist you or someone you know in facing it.

--
I hope this information will help.
A few days of feeling sad or depressed does not mean depression. A serious condition that can last months or even years, that's depression. According to various reports as many as fifteen million Americans suffer from this disease. Only about 4.5 million of those people seek help, which is unfortunate. The age- old stereotype associated with mental illness influences many to still avoid admitting they suffer from depression. Depression is a progressive illness. Without attention it will become more and more severe. It cannot be ignored.

A variety of factors, and even combinations of these factors, lead to depression. It can by biological, genetic, physical and emotional. Simple daily life and surroundings are important. Stress and other negative influences have been known to contribute. It takes a lot of knowledge to address a complex issue like depression. We also recognize the intricacy of man's mind. Work continues into the mind and brain and how they work, what makes them tick. It's clear that it's an imbalance of chemical compounds in the brain that creates depression. Researches learn more about this complex series of actions and reactions with passing time. Better treatments come from more knowledge.

Depression can be treated with a host of available medications. Of course the market is full of 'quick fix' antidotes. Make sure the treatment has been studied and scientifically proven to address depression. At one time asylums and mental institutions were filled to the brim with mentally ill people. Fortunately that has all been changed. In 1988 the anti-depressant 'Prozac' first hit the market in the United States. It was proven to work, and thus is still prescribed today even though it can have serious side effects.

Since then a new class of anti-depressants has become popular as well. Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors, SSRI, are being used today. These include Paxil, Zoloft, Lexapro, Celexa, and Luvox. These have limited side effects and have been shown to work. Herbal medications also have a place in this market. The majority of these that have been proven to work as well as the anti-depressants contain the St. John Wort extract ingredient called 'hyperforin'. Some herbal remedies don't contain this ingredient in the proper strength so they don't work.
