The candida yeast causes infection of the mouth, which is commonly known as Thrush. This yeast is commonly found in the gastric tract. When the body defense becomes weak because of weakness in the body or immune deficiency, the yeast causes infection in the mouth called oral thrush. The same yeast may cause infection in body folds, vagina, nails, etc. The common symptoms are white curd like patches in the mouth, on cheeks, and on tongue. If the infection spreads to esophagus, the condition becomes serious.

It can also cause angular chelitis of the lips (cracked lips at the corners). This occurs more in people who have dry lips. Though normally thrush is not painful, at times it can cause pain.

The candida yeast causes Candidisis. The group candida has many types, out of which, the type candida albicans causes this thrush. It is called thrush because it resembles a bird of the same name. The yeast is otherwise harmless in small quantities and is found in the gastric tract of many people. When it multiplies, it infects the mouth causing thrush. Thrush normally affects people who have compromised immune systems, such as AIDS patients, diabetics, etc. You may also develop thrush if you are taking birth control pills, are a smoker or a tobacco user. Thrush may also develop after heavy usage of antibiotics or steroids.

The common yogurt is a home treatment for thrush. Eating lots of yogurt brings back the balance in good bacteria and thrush can be controlled. You may also take oral anti-fungal pills to control the thrush. Avoiding food that contains yeast may give relief. Foods containing a lot of yeast are bread, beer, wine, etc. Stopping tobacco usage will help. See your dentist regularly to also control the thrush. Talk to your doctor for your line of treatment.
