Acne Sufferers - A Change in Lifestyle Could Change Their Lives

Acne Sufferers - A Change in Lifestyle Could Change Their Lives
Can we find a natural remedy for acne or are acne sufferers forever committed

to looking for the next wonder drug, lotion or cream, only to be disappointed

yet again? Are they to be forever doing the rounds of doctors and

dermatologists trying prescriptions that often do not work and can have

serious side effects.

Diet could be the key

Many acne sufferers know that certain foods aggravate their condition. There

is too much evidence from too many people to be ignored. Many people have

found their condition worsened after eating some food and, conversely, it

improved when these foods were avoided.

Recent studies by a research team at Australia's RMIT University and Royal

Melbourne Hospital Department of Dermatology has shown a solid link between

diet and acne. Findings of the study were presented at the 15th Congress of

the European Academy of Dermatology and Venerology in Greece and published in

the prestigious Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology and the

American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Whilst there is still more work to be done the research clearly indicated:

· A high GI diet of highly refined carbohydrates such as white sugar, white

flour, and sugar drinks, caused breakouts
· A healthy, low GI diet of fresh fruit and vegetables, whole grains, lean

meat, fish and seafood reduced acne significantly
· In the study group, the young men on the healthy diet reduced their acne by

50% over the 12 week period and their self-esteem and sense of wellbeing

improved

The right diet is only one of the steps in healing acne in a natural way. The

formation and cure of acne are complex issues but, for most sufferers, the

existing pharmaceutical treatments do not give long-lasting relief. They do

not approach the problem in a holistic way. They do not get to the root cause.

Most doctors do not believe diet plays a role in the cause and aggravation of

acne. Most of their knowledge is based on very old studies dating back to the

late sixties and seventies but, as we have seen, more recent studies have

shown that diet has a vital role to play.

The message is clear for acne sufferers: a change in eating habits could

change their lives.
