Yes, it's good for you! Seafood provides many healthy benefits.

Submitted by bsullivan

Good taste doesn't always mean good for you. But in the case of seafood, flavor and increased wellness often go together. And, as if the delicious taste of seafood wasn't reason enough to eat it regularly, there are health benefits that support the American Heart Association's recommendation for two servings of fish every week in a healthy diet.

Bounty of the sea in the mountains of North Carolina

In Asheville, NC, one of the area's favorite seafood restaurants, Fisherman's Quarters II, the freshness and variety of seafood make it a great catch for lunch or dinner. Choosing from one of the many combination platters or specials will leave you wanting more. Flounder, Catfish, Perch, Grouper, Red Snapper, Mahi-Mahi, and Alaskan White Fish are among the mouth-watering catches offered on the Fisherman's Quarters menu.

And, making seafood a regular part of your diet has proven to improve mind, body, and heart. But, don't just take my word for it.

Scientific studies support seafood

If the mouthwatering flavors alone aren't enough to make you stop into this Asheville seafood restaurant, take the word of health experts on the importance of fish to your health.

It's a good source of protein and doesn't have the saturated fat of fatty meat products, according to the Mayo Clinic. The unsaturated fatty acids in fish may lower your cholesterol, lower blood pressure, reduce blood clotting, enhance immune function, and improve arthritis symptoms.

The Journal of the American Medical Association found that modest consumption of fish reduces risk of coronary death by 36 percent and the rate of death by 17 percent. Tufts-New England Medical Center reported in a health study that by increasing your consumption of the fatty acids found in fish you can "reduce the rates of all-cause mortality, cardiac and sudden death, and possibly stroke."

Eat Asheville NC seafood for mind and body

At this Asheville seafood restaurant that offers tasty choices for the whole family, diners will find many healthy menu options. There's no need to feel guilty about eating delicious fish when dishes of Asheville seafood have elements that have proven health benefits. Fish oil has also been linked with easing back pain, while fatty acids in fish may reduce the risk of diabetes.

Experts have proven, time and time again, that the benefits of eating fish as a regular part of a diet, far outweighs any possible health risks. The evidence to support these benefits has been widely reported, not only by academics, but by countless news stories, as the Washington Post reported in a story on a study by an independent team of scientists:

"A federally funded report released by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) echoed the conclusion that the heart benefits of eating seafood outweigh the risks and said infants also benefit from the healthy fats found in seafood," writer Sally Squires reported. "Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish promote healthy vision and brain development in infants whose mothers consume fish or seafood during pregnancy or while nursing, the report said. These healthy fats also appear to decrease the risk of delivering a preterm, low-birth-weight baby."

So, as you can see, fish offers great flavor and incorporates healthy benefits into your diet.
