Motorbikes, vehicle of choice for the crisis ageSubmitted by David Salt Mon, 22 Jun 2009
They were once a gentleman's ride, a way to feel the fresh air of the countryside and enjoy high speed two wheel rides simultaneously. Then their popularity grew with the progress of technology, and the rising number of motorbike races in which the contestants remained alive. Then there was the long haired metal music listener's motorbike tribe, still around today, but not nearly as massive as before. No, they are not ruling the motorbike scene anymore. We are. Everyone is. With scooters and mopeds, the new form of easy to park, cheap to maintain transportation across town, from home to work, to get the groceries, to go to a date.
It is slick and stylish, it is easy to drive, it is cheap, it has a tiny amount of fuel consumption to other means of transport. It is the form of motorbikes most widely used today, due to it's accessibility. But, some people forget that, even if it is constructed to be a safe transportation vehicle, it is still a motorbike, and wearing your protective gear is required not only by law, but by your own wish to stay alive and unharmed. Accidents do happen, and in motorbiking accidents, you end up on your head often. So wear your helmet. And get some bike insurance , also not only because of the law. Bodywork tends to have a great price when compared to the price of the entire motorbike, and those putting it in as well. And that is why breakdowns after the warranty period will still be expensive to fix, if you don't insure yourself. Consider that there are electric powered scooters, and cheap, allowing you to take advantage of the privileges such vehicles have, and also save up on fuel once it's price skyrockets again. It is easy to think ahead in transportation when you have one type of motorbike for everyone, and everyone can find a type suiting their needs and character. Yet, every motorbike rider should take the same amount of precautions with protective gear and insurance and be responsible in traffic, to keep the voice about motorbiking as good as riding them feels.
