How to Write off Debts with Debt Management

Submitted by David Salt

In the United Kingdom, one can avail of a number of debt solutions but only a few could really help one write off a debt. Writing off a debt is important because it will lower the principal amount that you are required to pay. This will make your debt more manageable and easier to handle.

Debt consolidation is a good debt advice. The same with remortgages. The thing with these debt solutions is they do not take off a part of the debt. They may lessen the monthly payments or the interest rates which could lead to more money saved but one needs to pay the same principal amount. The terms are just made more manageable than before.

There are two options that could chip off a considerable chunk in the actual debt. These two are IVAs and debt management. IVAs allows a debtor to come up with a proposal through the aid of an Insolvency Practitioner that is satisfactory for both the debtor and the creditor.
How to Write off Debt with Debt Management

Debt Management is different from an IVA because the former is not legally binding. A debtor does not need to go to court and forward a formal proposal to the creditor. In debt management, what is reached is an informal agreement wherein both parties agree on the amount the debtor will pay back and the amount of debt that will be written off.

If you need help regarding this matter, then you can approach specialist debt management companies which can delineate to you the steps needed in order to write off your debt. Some people however prefer that they themselves should contact their creditors and negotiate the terms with them. This is also permitted.

The amount written off in a debt management agreement is oftentimes lesser compared to the debt write off in an IVA arrangement. The advantage of debt management though is you do not need to hire Insolvency Practitioners or pay a debt management company to do things in your behalf. You can take care of things on your own which would greatly reduce your expenses.
