How to Bring Your Horse Betting Game to the Next Level

Submitted by David Salt

Horse racing is obviously a very popular betting sport in the UK, and it attracts many different types of punters. Some people who bet are novices who just gamble for fun, and some people actually make a full-time living by betting on horses. Even though the different groups of gamblers in the horse racing world may be worlds apart, they all have one thing in common - they want to make more money. If you are reading this article, you are probably a beginning punter or someone who bets on horses as a hobby. If you'd like to make more money with your hobby and take your betting to the next level, you'd be smart to take advantage of the following tips.

If you don't know this already, know it now: know your horses! How has this horse performed in the past? How does it perform with a particular jockey? Does it perform well or poorly in inclement weather? Has it ever tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs? Keep track of your horses and know them well. Have any moved up or down a class or moved classes in weight?

A good tip for winning repeatedly is to keep track of your horses' recent competitions. You want to restrict your bets to horses who have recently performed well in the class of race they are competing in. Yes, this will give you some shorter odds but it will give you more wins. Doing this thoughtfully yet repeatedly will result in success.

Also, try not to bet on a horse that has not recently won at the distance it is competing at. Horses are very sensitive animals and any change in distance can affect a horse's performance. It is okay to bet on the underdog, or the horse that is not the favourite, just make sure that it has performed well recently in this particular race that you're betting on.

These tips may seem simple and obvious to some but it's incredible how many punters don't do the above things. Being a little disciplined and thoughtful about your betting will put your game above and beyond your fellow punters. Good luck bringing your horse betting game to the next level!

About the Author

When placing a bet on a horse race, as well as knowing the odds it may also be useful to know about the jockey and horse's past performance too. The popularity of horse race betting has also increased with the availability of online betting sites.
