Arsenal v Tottenham Odds

Submitted by David Salt
Fri, 30 Oct 2009

It is a very long time since Tottenham beat their arch rivals Arsenal. In fact they have not beaten them in a league match since 7th November 1999 and so far this season Arsenal has an unbroken string of home wins. Given this, a win for Arsenal might seem to be a no-brainer and this is certainly what the bookies believe. At the time of writing, the best odds for a win for Arsenal are 8/13, and the best odds for a win for Tottenham are 5/1 with best odds for a draw being 3/1.

Sometimes not all is as it seems in Football, and it might be a mistake to write of Tottenham totally, after all 5/1 is a very attractive price in sports betting terms. Despite a very poor showing at home last weekend when they gave the game away to Stoke, this season Tottenham have demonstrated that they have some spine and under the steady and controlling hand of the unflappable Harry Redknapp on the tiller, they might just come out on top. After all, it only needs a couple of mistakes by Arsenal and anything could happen.

Tottenham is still without the genius of Jermaine Defoe who remains in the wings as he serves the remainder of his suspension. Instead Spurs will lead from the front with a combination of Robbie Keane and Peter Crouch. This pair is expert at identifying weaknesses in the other side's defence, and will delight in doing this to Arsenal. In fact, if Arsenal is lacking anywhere, it is lacking in defence. There is also some uncertainty regarding who will be keeping their goal and it is possible that Manuel Almunia will return for this match.

This does not look like a match that will be devoid of goals and a bet on the total goals scored could be worthwhile. If you think there will be three or more, then you can get 7/4. For the really adventurous, odds for a 4 - 4 draw are an outstanding 300/1. For a fun bet, you can get 33/1 that Harry Redknapp will at some time celebrate by performing a knee slide.
