The demand for business analysts is increasing alongside the development of IT applications. They are the ones who shape a company's technological framework and point them to the right direction. It is one of the fastest growing careers worldwide and more jobs are created in this area of expertise every year. Many people are not aware that IT professionals are getting more and more involved in the business side of things as lines blur between the two industries. The skills and abilities of these people may be applied to different types of corporate settings, making their presence more valuable as time goes by. The demand for them is so big that many of them become independent consultants or work for business consultancy firms who provide solutions in all aspects of business. This line of work is not only lucrative, but it is also a trend that will last for a long time.
Qualities of a Good Business Analyst There are different roles that business analysts could take on depending on the company's needs. Their job description is a very long list and it will take some time to discuss all of them, but their primary role is to create business information systems and applications to improve a company's efficiency and production. College graduates and people from an IT or engineering background and who are adept with business process management experience or training are usually the people hired for this job. To be a successful BA, you must understand business processes and should be able to convert that knowledge into applications and software solutions for your company. Effective communication is also a must. Most of the time, you will be working with a team and you need to be a team player and have good communication skills to be able to work well with others and to be able to share information with the rest of the team. Business Analysts are detail and goal oriented, excellent at multi-tasking and very logical people. They are also team players who are also able to work alone if necessary. For independent analysts, having good negotiation skills is also a plus. You must be able to discuss your project and negotiate with clients on a regular basis. Continuous education is needed for a BA to keep up with all the technological breakthroughs and updates in the business end of things. They must be able to catch up and update their work accordingly. All in all, business analysts should have the right combination of analytical, technical, managerial and communication skills.
