Safety Initiatives for MotorbikersSubmitted by David Salt Mon, 14 Sep 2009
THe British officer T.E. Lawrence once commented about the "lustfulness of moving swiftly" brought about by the "pleasure of speeding on the road" on a motorcycle, which lead to a "feel[ing] the earth moulding herself under me." Such is the thrill of "need for speed" that bike owners and bike lovers share.
This is the reason that bike enthusiasts share a certain bond that non-bike riders may never understand. Motorbiking is said to evoke sensation of urgency, joy, fulfillment and of course, adventure. Bikers may get too carried with their emotions that at times safety is the least of their concerns. Motorbiking is a risky experience but most of the worries attached with the risks would be driven away if one gets a bike insurance. Motorbike insurance provides one with peace of mind that responsibilities and expenses will be taken cared of should the need arise. The British road safety rules have always stressed the need for biker safety. The government even funded projects that would provide motorcyclist safety all over Great Britain. In April 2009, the ministers released new road safety initiatives called "A Safer Way: Consultation on Making Britain's Roads the Safest in the World". In this handbook, a number of safety measures were delineated intended to promote bikers' safety on the road. The contents of the said handbook mention the need to introduce designs in urban areas that would be exclusively for bikers' use. Another strategy delineated is to improve the bikers' access to bus lanes and to educated motorbikers. April is also the month that UK celebrates the Bike Tyre Safety Month. In the said celebration, the attendees and bike lovers were once again reminded that safety is of utmost importance and that they should take necessary steps and measures to ensure the roadworthiness of their motorbikes. This will prevent unnecessary risks on the pedestrians, vehicle drivers and the motorbikers themselves. During the said Bike Tyre Safety celebration, more skilled bike riders were invited to help those who are less-experienced in biking. The skilled bikers pointed out that the safety of the riders depend to a huge extent on the contact patches which will provide them with the only means for the bike to have contact with the road. Note that even skilled bikers should have bike insurance About the Author
