Picking the Right Used Cars

Submitted by diamondrocket

People buy used cars for a variety of reasons. Most significantly is because even recent models are less expensive than new cars. Here are some pointers for picking out the right one.
Make sure that the price of the car is in line with the quality. A good used vehicle should be affordable and the price comparable to other similar vehicles. The well known industry standard for determining the price of a used car is the blue book. It lists the price of most available used cars based on quality, year, and model. It is important to consult the blue book before settling on a price when buying a car.
But the buying price is not the only cost! You should also consider maintenance costs, the price of any repairs that will have to be made immediately, the price of insurance and the vehicle's mileage. Although not included on the sticker, all of these things should be considered as part of the bottom line in the purchase of any vehicle. Remember used cars are just that - used. Buyers would do well to find how used that car is before buying it.
Buying used cars that are already in good working condition will go a long way to defraying some of the costs discussed above. You should always have any car you're considering for purchase inspected by a qualified and independent mechanic.
You should also research the safety and reliability of the vehicle. Consumer Reports issues an annual review of most vehicles that can be an invaluable aid in your research. There are also many reputable websites with information and insights in the practically every car on the road.
In short, picking used cars should be a decision that you take very seriously. Be deliberate and know what you are looking for in your new vehicle and you should be able to find just the car you want.
